So I'm over half way done with Pillars! YAY! I am most likely going to be really wanting to read World Without End after it... probably right around the 1st of the year. Are you up for it? If not, I could wait - no problem! Heaven knows that Mt. TBR has a lot on it! :)
I could probably do that. I need to go out and get it. I'm not sure yet what to read over Christmas. Mt. TBR is so big that I can't decide! I think I'll finish The Sultan's Harem today or tomorrow.
I just finished The Xibalba Murders An Archeological Mystery. I'm going to start Obsidian Butterfly tonight, and keep listening to The Titan's Curse. I'm planning on reading Ella Enchanted this weekend. :)
You're doing a lot of reading these last couple of weeks! Keep it up! I'm jealous of your free time!
Heh... I wouldn't call it free time, it's just that the kids were actually entertaining each other, and it was too cold for them to be outside. Don't worry, it'll change. Granted, I have five furlough days I have to take between now and the end of May, so that'll help a bit. Though my first half day will be spent having lunch with you and then a doctor appointment... :) The apple pie rocked by the way!
I'm glad you liked it! I'm looking forward to lunch on Friday. My suggestion would be Jade Sisters.
Jade Sisters sounds great to me! I don't know exactly where it is, so could I meet you at your work?
It's directly off the strip between Dairy Queen and the new Asian Market accross from Chongs. But, if you want to meet me here, you can.
I'm working on Obsidian Butterfly, about 20% of the way through. I guess it's really the last "good" book in the Anita Blake series. Books 10-15 are supposedly pretty smutty, but I hear that book 16 gets better. So, after this book, I'm torn if I should read book 10 or not... If I don't, then I can't really read book 16, but I'm not sure that I feel like reading mind-numbing harlequin-type books. Argh! Decisions!
I know that your reading time is pretty limited right now, but are you thinking of reading The Woman in White before April 15? Or was that a book you were thinking about?

I've never heard of The Woman in White. I don't know if I'll read it or not...
With the Anita Blake books, what keeps you from reading 16 if you've skipped a few books? If it's mostly smut, you won't have missed much plot...

Most of the books I got yesterday are smaller, so I was thinking I might start some of them since I might be able to get through them quicker. I hadn't decided yet though. I just finished The Work of Wolves last night.
I'm kind of going back and forth between Skeletons at the Feast and Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet. I don't know which I want to read first.
Smut yes, but what if there's a new character that might be important? I could always skim the smutty stuff. :) Oh, don't worry about it dear - I couldn't remember if you were planning on The Woman in White or not. I guess not! :) I was considering that as an upcoming book, though I think I'll read Ella Enchanted and Chinese Cinderella first. Hmmm.... another question... I'm really wanting to read The Fountainhead... it's close to 1,000 pages, which is normal for me. However, it's also an audio book (27 CDs, which would take FOREVER to listen to) - should I go for the audio?

Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet... that's my choice! Mostly because I've read it, and then we can talk about it! I know for a fact that it's a pretty quick read too.

Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet it is then!
I don't know what to tell you about The Fountainhead. If you're wanting to read shorter things, I'd suggest listening to it because you can do it in pieces that way... I almost like to have the longer book I'm working on be the audio book because I can read other things and feel like I'm actually reading something.
Carissa always skims the smut too. If she made it through them, you surely will.

Do you skim the smut? (I'm nosey! No need to answer...)
That's why I'm considering the audio of it... I'm kind of burnt out on the reading 1,000 page book after 1,000 page book. I'm enjoying the smaller books right now.

No...I'm single and almost 30! I don't search out those books, but I don't avoid them either. It's funny to watch Carissa read them though...her face turns beet red and she starts flipping pages very quickly. I don't have that extreme modesty.
LOL! Then maybe I'll read the smut! Who knows, if it's good I may be tempted. I'm married, but I have two little ones... I don't see much action!
The Woman in White is quite good. I must say that I am thoroughly enjoying it! It is a much slower read than the last few books I've read as it was written in 1859, but it's refreshing to read well written books. (Unlike the Twilight series...)
I Am the Messenger is really good. It's a very quick read (90 pages in 1 hour last night), but very hard to put down. Like with The Book Thief, Zusak uses short chapters designed, I think, to make you say, "just one more chapter and I'll quit...just one more chapter...it's only a couple of pages, I'll read just one more chapter."
The Woman in White is quite good. It's just not a fast read - like the last few books have been... and I've been distracted by Chuck and Dexter..
I Am the Messenger was really good! It's a quick read, but not one that's easy to put down after just a few minutes. I'm going to start Sarah's Key tonight, I think. I'll read The Three Musketeers after that.
I ended up working till 9:30 last night, so no reading for me. I'll try to start Sarah's Key tonight... I wanted to read, and I tried, but my eyes were so tired and burning that I just couldn't.
I wanted to read yesterday, but was just too tired and frustrated. I still have about 200 pages left, and am REALLY hoping to finish it before the end of the month.
I finished The Woman in White today, and also started AND finished Chinese Cinderella: The True Story of an Unwanted Daughter! You were right, it's an EASY read! :)
It goes very quickly. I think it is written for a more young adult reader. While it may not go as deep as some would like (see reviews) I think that it's a good book for what it is. The author did write an autobiography that has more in it...I think.
Yeah, she didn't go as deep as she could have, and it seemed to end pretty abruptly. I did learn a little bit about Chinese history, which was nice. :) It's a nice book and an easy read.
Not sure if I mentioned it, but I'm reading A Dance to the Music of Time: First Movement - 30 pages in, and enjoying!
Sonja - I think I'm going to start the audio book of The Help - it's 15 cd's, so it'll probably take 3 to 4 weeks to finish... are you up for reading it anytime soon? If you don't want to start in the next month, let me know - I also have the audio of The Piano Teacher, and I do want to listen to that one too. :)
I could do The Help next. I'm about a third of the way through The Commoner: A Novel and it's getting quicker as I get further into it.
Sounds good! I'll start listening tomorrow to The Help! :) If you ever need audio books, you must tell me! I have tons now! (Mostly thanks to the ICPL...)
I'm thinking about driving to Cincinnati sometime in May or June. I'd need something for that, but I'll come see you sometime before then...
