Trisha's 2017 challenge
Finished The Poppy Factory - Liz Trenow for Bookopoly & for Alphabet soup (P). Quite good, but disappointing compared with The Silk Weaver by the same author.
Finished Sinful Cinderella - Anita Valle for Featherweight (this completes Level 2 "flapping wings"), Rainbow (black) & the Cruelest month.
Finished The Red Notebook - Antoine Laurain for Featherweight & for Travel the world (Europe). Story set in Paris.
Finished The Year of Living Danishly: My Twelve Months Unearthing the Secrets of the World's Happiest Country - Helen Russell for Travel the world (Europe). Non-fiction, set in Denmark.
Finished Molly and the Cat Cafe - Melissa Daley for Animals & rebirth.Finished An Old-Fashioned Thanksgiving - Louisa May Alcott for Featherweight, Alphabet soup (O) & for Bookopoly "family".
Finished In the Light of What We See - Sarah Painter for Fantasy faire - couldn't put it down! A mixture of present day, the past, & fantasy/ghosts.
Finished The Villa in Italy - Elizabeth Edmondson for Travel the world (Europe) & for Chunkster (which completes Level 1).
Lynnette wrote: "Trisha, am interested in your latest Alcott. How was it? I didn't even know it existed!"It's only a short story, part of Aunt Jo's Scrap-Bag which I got as a free Kindle book. I think the stories are meant to be written by Jo. I found it when I searched for titles starting with "O" for the Alphabet challenge. It was ok, I gave it 3 stars, but nowhere near as good as the Little Women series.
Finished Under the Greenwood Tree - Thomas Hardy for Alphabet soup (U) & for Featherweight.Finished A Little Princess
Featherweight - all 15 books completed.
Deborah wrote: "I thought I would pop in and say hello! Liked Under the Greenwood Tree many moons ago....."Yes, I agree Deborah - it's one of my favourite Hardy books.
Finished North and South - Elizabeth Gaskell for Rainbow (brown). The story started very slowly but developed into a fascinating read. I found the dialect more difficult than in Thomas Hardy's books.
Finished The Lost Cats and Lonely Hearts Club - Nic Tatano for Animals & rebirth, & for Rainbow (pink).
Finished A Cat Called Birmingham - Chris Pascoe for Animals & rebirth, & for Rainbow (white).Finished Poetry Please! 100 Popular Poems from the BBC Radio 4 Programme - Charles Causley. From this I read a poem a day throughout April for Poetry month, & read the extra poems too to complete the book.
Rosemarie wrote: "Were there any new poems that you really liked, besides old favourites,"Not really, Rosemarie. I've had the book for years & browsed through it a number of times, though I've not read it consistently until it was this month's challenge. My favourite from this book is still "Warning" (Jenny Joseph) which always makes me laugh.
Finished The Invention of Wings - Sue Monk Kidd. An amazing book. I thought it was fiction based on real events, & only discovered it was a story written around real people when I read the author's notes at the end. I was shocked at how slaves were treated & impressed by the determination of women to do what they believed was right at a time when their behaviour would have been considered unacceptable.
Finished Jam and Roses - Mary Gibson for Flowers.I really enjoyed this novel, set in London in the 1920's.
Finished The Atlas of Us - Tracy Buchanan.Finished The Apple Orchard: A heart-warming short story to curl up with - Veronica Henry
Oh and I see you read several Jane Austens :) So much fun aren't they? Except for Emma- I found that one a tad anoying at times!
Finished Cranford - Elizabeth Gaskell. A huge disappointment, I loved North and South but didn't like this one. It improved towards the end but then shocked me by ending suddenly as if the author just got interrupted in the middle of writing it.
Finished Women & Children First - Gill Paul. Historical novel, based on story of the Titanic- a lovely book.
Finished The House on Bellevue Gardens - Rachel Hore. Very disappointing, her other books are much better.
Finished Last Seen - Lucy Clarke for Bookopoly. The book started a bit slowly, but once into it the story was fascinating & I couldn't put it down!
Finished Where Angels Fear to Tread - E.M. Forster. I saw this recommended today & read a preview. Couldn't do anything else until I'd read the whole book! It's a very clever book, both funny & sad at times.
Trisha, I agree that the book was both funny and sad. Have you read Room With a View? I thought it was funny, and not sad.

I might regret it, but I've just updated my challenge for the year to 100 books (instead of a cautious 50).
