The Perks Of Being A Book Addict discussion
ARCHIVE Team Challenge: UNO 2017

Team Kate Daniels

I know what you mean, when you've gotten used to a higher speed, the normal one drives you nuts!

Long lost cousin? ;)"
Could be ;)"
Scary thought ;-)"
Lol. Be nice!"
I don't know if she can be? ;)
Wonder if she's afraid we'll conquer the world?
-is that in our plans?

Nice!
I get almost all of my books from the library. I am lucky to have a great system here too and they also have lots of audiobooks and ebooks so I'm spoilt for choice ;)

I buy most of my books. I regularly do a lot of second-hand book shopping, too. Our libraries aren't all that great, and mostly carry German and French editions of books, while I prefer to read in English.

For me I only read ebooks or listen to audios. Ebooks are just so convenient, you can bring hundreds with you wherever you go. And I always have an audio going when I leave the apartment (or when doing the dishes etc).
Is it noticeable that I'm a book addict? :o

The library in my town mostly carries Swedish books, and it was years ago that I read those. The library in the last city I lived in was great, they bought the books I wanted to read, if they didn't have them. :)

And a good idea actually for a library if they are smaller and might not carry the greatest variety.

Just imagine how many more books I'll be able to go through...
*drools a bit*

And apparently the whine is ear splitting, judging by the other character thingy ;)

*waves frantically at E* I'm doubly blessed to be on E's team again. She was my captain (one of) for WOBBLE last year and was just the awesomest! :-D
I've played UNO in real life but this is my first UNO reading challenge - Elderwan, of course, recruited me! I'm looking forward to getting started.
I only read ebooks now. I still have more than a handful of print books that I've not read on my bookshelves here at home but somehow keep forgetting about them. I need to remedy that...
I haven't jumped on the audio bandwagon. I'm sort of afraid to. I'm afraid if I do I'll completely switch over and become an addict and then what will I do with the 100s of ebooks I already own??? You see how I abandoned my poor print books when I started with the ebooks...
This might sound weird, but I read on my Kindle Fire using Calibre Collections and MoonPro...don't ask...but it's because over half my ebook collection is epub and I actually use Calibre Collections instead of the Kindle app for my books on the Fire (and if you know what I'm talking about, then you're as anal as I am about your ebook catalog, if you don't, that's okay, you're really better off) Anyway, the MoonPro app has a text to talk feature so I do actually use that when I'm driving to and fro for work. My commute is just an hour a day two days a week, so I don't feel justified to spend the money on an audio just for that. Yes, I know if I spent the money for the audios I'd end up listening more than just those two hours - and then I'd buy the next audio and then the next and then the next and well, we've already talked about that.
Wow, that kind of went on and on.... Let's get back to saying how excited I am!! Go Kate Daniels! I haven't started the series yet but it is on my TBR for this year, so I think I'll just have to start in February to go along with the game!
Hi everyone else - looking forward to getting to know everyone!

*hides blush* Thanks :-) Always glad to hear when people are happy!
Lol, it definitely sounds like you'd be better off not trying audio just yet, at least not until you've reduced your ebook pile a tad - just in case ;-)
And yes yes yes, I absolutely like your plan to Kate Daniels for Uno! It'll be perfect for our many reverse cards, too, since both Annika and I have already read the series (except for the last one for me since it isn't out in paperback yet, but SOON!!).

Just imagine how many more books I'll be able to go through...
*drools a bit*"
I shouldn't have said that, darn it. Lol. Enjoy Annika!

You should jump on the audio wagon, just imagine how many more books you'd read when you do chores, are out walking or shopping - the list is endless :D
And I second E again, you definitely need to read the KD books, they are great!

Did you say anything- I was listening to a book, so I didn't catch that ;)

Lots of libraries have audiobooks available through Overdrive. Could be a good gateway drug? ;)
I'm yet to read the last 2 Kate Daniels books (#8 and 9 I think?) so maybe you guys will inspire me to do that during UNO

Thanks for the help Karen, it's always fun to convert people to audios - well books in general, but seeing where we are I say branching out is i order ;)

But on a lighter note, I just ordered Magic Bites from the library! :)
It will come in handy for the reverses...

Great! we do have quite a few of those this month. And you can never go wrong with Kare Daniels!

I do read ebooks from time to time though. They're just perfect for sneaking reading in at work. Though I sometimes have absolutely no trouble whatsoever with just sitting there with a paperback (when nobody else is around of course hehe).

I'm Chris, from Nottinghamshire, UK, and own a very busy guest house. I've been on Goodreads for about three years but this is the first time I've done the UNO challenge. I'm a bit confused as to what to do, but am sure someone will tell me (I hope!). As they say here, in for a penny, in for a pound!
I love reading most things but also don't really like reading anything over 400 pages, as with work, it usually takes me forever to finish (in saying that I did read Lonesome Dove, which was nearly 1,000 pages and was brilliant! It did take me six weeks to finish though.)
Anyway feel free to add me as a friend and let's win this!

No, No.. you can't make me! If I start I'll never stop!

Glad you found us here!
And no worries, you are in good hands, both me and Eldarwen are veterans on uno, this is our third year, so anything you want to know we are more than happy to help you out. I do find that a lot of challenges are confusing Before you start playing, but we are here to help :)
And uno is the best challenge to start with, but it should come with a warning label - you will get addicted to challenges ;)

Good to know. I've done a few challenges here and I've played UNO before so that should help. Looking forward to it anyway!

I have an iPhone so using the standard ibooks app I have the option. And then I have overdrive and audible which both give me speed options too. I can't do faster than 1.25 as it becomes chipmunk-like ; but I find for a lot of books 1x speed is actually now frustratingly slow ;)
