ARCHIVE Team Challenge: UNO 2017

Yes i was quite surprised by that book. I wasnt expecting to like it that much but it was so well written, you cant put it down when you start. The book i read after that was quite a contrast though.. was frog music.. any one read that one ?
I started Frog Music at least twice, but either it wasn't "my thing" or it wasn't "the right time" because I just couldn't get into it. I'm thinking about trying again this year, but I also figure three times is either a charm or the maximum number of try and fails.
Ok. Let's go with this one. I've never played UNO before. I've read through the rules and I think I get it, but what's the best advice you can give a newbie like me?

That was uncalled for and I should not have said it. I understand people are busy, have lives and cannot be on the internet all the time. I am truly sorry for saying that and I hope you all will forgive me.
I think we'll all be more dedicated to chatting once the challenge starts! I know i always have problems chatting in the groups, and this is my second year being captain. I hope everyone finishes their other challenges for this month and is ready for February!

Yes of course diane. Thank you for apologizing and we will all start again on the right foot :)I would skip also frog music. But i was very surprised by that book. I loved the room and thought it was well written, and offered a new perspective, but i just didnt understand that one. You wouldnt know its from the same author.
For the advice on uno i am new as well so cant really help..
The best advice I could give is to read the books that would help the team the most. Also, to have fun and challenge youself to read more than you usually do!
Ok, Kirsten. I'm not really sure how to do that. It's kind of confusing to understand what to select in order to play for a hand.
I look at the spreadsheet and I'm asking myself ... are we playing all the hand simultaneously for the month? Or are we working with the first hand, then the second, and on down the list?
In February we'll get a new round of hands?
We have thirteen hands for February, you're welcome to start reading books that fit other hands, but try to still in the first six hands for now. We don't get points for hand two until we finish hand one, so just keep that in mind.
My advice is to start with the difficult cards first then it easier to come up with the easier cards and then we can go forward : )
But we can't count books that we start before Feb 1, correct? I'll be finishing my current book before that, so I will try to wait until then to start my next one...
I can read Cosmic Rain for the 7 in our hand if that works for everyone. Please let me know if I am reading that correctly.
Oh shoot, I knew I forgot something :) I wrote that post around midnight and I was very tired lol The author's name is Valerie Townsend and according to the rules, the author's name can start with a V for the 7 card. Is that correct?
I'm glad it's starting soon! My current book is kind of boring me so I want to switch to something new, but I keep telling myself to hold off until Wednesday so I can count it for this.
I'm going to recycle a shelf I'm using for another challenge so that I don't have to keep track of too many shelves in too many places. Here's the one I plan to use for this one. Pat's UNO Shelf

Happy start day! I think pages have been in my favor since I was 5! LOL
Question: Would you rather us put our finished books on our shelves with the date read attached?
Diane, you definitely need to add the books you read with the start and finish date attached. But also use the format of how to post a finished book in the discussion. Thanks!
I can't usually finish a book in a day. I have too many other distractions lol but I do like mine so far.
Just finished Silence for the Dead which is good forcard 6 -title Silence for the Dead author Simone St. James
characters : Kitty Weekes, Jack Yates
Not yet , i read pretty fast but i have limited time, basically just before going to sleep so it takes a while unfortunately... should be one done by the beginning of next week !
Today is a pretty busy day for me - between 3 doctor's appointments, work, and riding lessons this evening. I should be able to get something read by the weekend though. :-)
Kirsten wrote: "Could everyone tell me their average books per month? Thanks!"Mine is widely varied, because my life is ... well, it's complicated. In a good week, I can read a book every day. In a bad one, I can't get one read in a week.
I TRY to get two a week read, which seems to be a little less than average, so I would say - 6 a month probably.
I read a lot and am a fast reader. also have trouble sleeping a lot so I read when I cant sleep. So about 100 a month. I know I am weird : ) Finished Strength in What Remains: A Journey of Remembrance and Forgiveness by Tracy Kidder
I have been sick the last few days but I'm finally (HOPEFULLY) looking to be on the mend so I should have more reading time. My books per month really depends on how into the book I am, which affects how fast I can read it. For this challenge, it'll probably be 2 or so a month. Though the idea of a "challenge" might motivate me more -- we will see!
finished The Alchemyst by Michael Scott characters Nicholas Flamel, Perenelle Flamel, Josh Newman, Sophie Newman, Scathach the Warrior Maid, Dr. John Dee
Wait - Nicholas Flamel is a "real" person? Not just someone made up for the Harry Potter books?! lol I had no idea there was character with that name in another book.
Just finished Everything, Everything by Nicola Yoon. Read Feb 3-4.Could count for 9 because of author name Nicola Yoon (starts with N)
Or could count for 1 (character name Olly), or 8 (title starting with E)
Diane Woods wrote: "Wait - Nicholas Flamel is a "real" person? Not just someone made up for the Harry Potter books?! lol I had no idea there was character with that name in another book."There is a whole series : )
Finished The Magician by Michael Scott
Nicholas Flamel, Perenelle Flamel, Josh Newman, Sophie Newman, Scathach the Warrior Maid, Dr. John Dee
King and Maxwell by David Baldacci
Sean King, Michelle Maxwell, Sam Wingo, Tyler Wingo
One Summer by David Baldacci
jack, lizzie
Hey! I just updated the sheet and could anyone start to read the books for reverse? You just need to read a book someone else read. Thanks!
Kirsten wrote: "Hey! I just updated the sheet and could anyone start to read the books for reverse? You just need to read a book someone else read. Thanks!"Does it have to be something that someone else read during this challenge, or just that they have read at some point?

They just have to mark it as a read. It could have been from five years ago or even yesterday.
