Kazen I'm looking at Swordspoint (Riverside, #1) by Ellen Kushner , which for whatever reason the color extractor says is majority green... so that means it would work for green 1?

Not sure why it made that one green. Now it came out as 20% green and 30% yellow.

If there is a cover we think should be a specific colour, but tinEye says differently, we can get it overruled by the captain's and mods :-)

maria helena (mariahel) | 964 comments Less than 5 days left of February!

Remember that books for the February cards and the mini-challenge must be finished by the end of the month. Any books started in February but finished in March can be used for the March hands.

How are everyone doing with their last books for February and the mini-challenge? We have already finished the 15 tasks and gotten 75 points for part 2 (be my valentine) of the mini challenge. For part 1 (find your valentine), we have finished 9 books and gotten 72 points!

We need to finish 7 more books for the February hands. We have some wild cards so if you have a short (100+) page book that doesn't work for any of the normal cards, we can use them there.

I only have a couple of hours left in the audiobook of I'm Judging You The Do-Better Manual by Luvvie Ajayi , yea! Hopefully I'll knock it out this weekend.

Zahra (skipdips) | 66 comments I've finished Scythe by Neal Shusterman which works for 1 (#1 in a series), 2 (char: Citra Terranova), 4 (Scythe Faraday), 6 (title), 9 (author: Neal Shusterman). It can also be applied to the mini challenge for task 1 part 1 :)

message 308: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 1012 comments I finished The Horse and His Boy just now. :)

message 309: by maria helena (new)

maria helena (mariahel) | 964 comments I've finished Björnstad by Fredrik Backman (already in spreadsheet) - works for mini challenge part 1

message 310: by Avamuc (new)

Avamuc | 132 comments Just finished A Darker Shade of Magic.

It should work for
1: 1st in series
3: character Hollande
6: author V.E. Schwab
7: author V.E. Schwab
8: character Emira Maresh
Skip: Kell
Reverse: Fatima, Eni, Sarah

And of course for the valentine challenge: book that was read or added

Sarah | 1012 comments Finished The Eyre Affair. I think my expectations may have been too high for this, I was underwhelmed for the first half. The ending was good though, so that pushed it up to 4 stars, just.

I will be starting Eleanor & Park next, published February 1st 2013, and read by Teddie on Feb 17, 2015. Works for 1.2 and 1.3.

For Uno:
0 - standalone
6 - character Park Sheridan
8 - title
Skip - character Park Sheridan

It's so hard to find books for 1.3! And the ones that I do find are too long to read quickly. :(

message 312: by Avamuc (new)

Avamuc | 132 comments The next book I am going to read is The Rainmaker. It should fit for:

0: Stand Alone
Reverse: MH read it

....and hopefully I will find some more cards later :)

message 313: by Avamuc (new)

Avamuc | 132 comments by the way....the challenge is great! I haven't been reading this much for quiet some time :)

Is it the same for you?

I'm really motivated to read, too! It helps that I've stumbled onto some great books. Speaking of...

...I finished Noteworthy by Riley Redgate ! Additional cards:

2 & Skip - C: Theodore Pugh
3 - C: Marcus Humphreys
5 & 9 - C: Isaac Nakahara
7 - C: Victoria
8 - C: Erik

message 315: by Zahra (new)

Zahra (skipdips) | 66 comments I just finished Everything I Never Told You by Celeste Ng which works for 0 (a standalone), 1 (set in Ohio), 3 (char: Hannah), 4 (char: Officer Finke), 6 (char: Stanley), 8 (title), 9 (char: Nathan), skip (char: Karen Adler).

As for the mini challenge, it works for:
❤ Read a book where two characters fall in love
❤ Read a book where there is unrequited love
❤ Read a book where there is a first kiss

Same! This challenge's been very motivating and really pushes me to read more.

message 317: by Kazen (new)

Kazen Another book finished, yea!

Love and Gravity by Samantha Sotto

0 - standalone
5 & 9 - C: Isaac Newton
6 - Title

maria helena (mariahel) | 964 comments We have finished all our hands for February!

Great job team! We have finished all the Uno hands with 4 days left of the month! This is a good sign, because next month we will need more books with one extra hand!

We could still need some more books for the mini-challenge, specifically books read by our valentine team that was published in February of any year.

If you have a book that the valentine team read or added in February any year, that will also be useful (we have a few books for that task that were published in February so we could swap them around).

Don't worry if you are reading a book that won't work for the mini challenge. If you finish it after the end of the month (countdown) we can use it for March instead.

I haven't quite read as much this month as I had hoped to, because of crazy work schedule and being sick, but I hope to get a few more books read next month.

The challenge definitely helps motivate me to read more! I definitely enjoy seeing what books everyone are reading, even if our reading preferences don't always match :-)

Read by Trinia, published 16 February 2016

Avamuc | 132 comments I'll try to read A Hidden Fire until Tuesday. Teddi from Team Bones added it on Feb 4th 2015. It's a freebie at amazon and she rated it quiet high.

message 324: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 1012 comments It's been quite a day today, but I got a little reading done. The boiler was making horrendous noises so had to get someone out to fix it before the heating stopped working. Thankfully it's all fixed now and still working.

Yay for finishing our Feb cards. How awesome are we!

I will definitely finish Eleanor & Park in time. If I can I'll try and squeeze something else in for 1.3, if I can even find something.

maria helena (mariahel) | 964 comments We had a snowstorm yesterday and over night we got 0.5 meters of snow. I spent the morning digging out the stairs, making a path to the road and digging out a car from >1 meter of snow... But at least it gave me an excuse to listen to an audiobook :-)

maria helena (mariahel) | 964 comments PLANNING FOR MARCH...

In case you are starting to plan your books for next month, the cards we will need the most of are:
- card 1 / letter O
- card 2 / letter T
- card 3 / letter H
- card 7 / letter V
- card 9 / letter N
- reverse

For the colour cards, we have 1 red, 4 blue, 7 blue and 4 green covered, but still need:
- 1 Green
- 2 Yellow
- 4 Yellow 5 Yellow
- 9 Red

message 327: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 1012 comments I've finished Eleanor & Park.

I finally found a book that I think I can finish in time (all I could find for ages were 400+ page books, which I could never manage in the time left).

Shamber added The Murder at the Vicarage to her TBR on 7 Feb 2017, so I'm going to read that as we still have options to move around between 1.2 and 1.3.

Avamuc | 132 comments Would this one Find Me by Laura van den Berg work for the yellow 4 or is it too greenish?

Or this one We Are All Completely Beside Ourselves by Karen Joy Fowler for the yellow 5 (setting is Bloomington, Indiana (United States) )? Or is Indiana too unspecific as it is a state not a town?

I'll check with the mods about Find Me.

We Are All Completely Beside Ourselves is not yellow enough (it's just over 50% black), but I highly recommend it! I've read it and really enjoyed it. For the setting, it would probably be Bloomington rather than Indiana (it's supposed to be however they refer to the main setting in the book).

message 331: by Kazen (new)

Kazen I finally finished I'm Judging You The Do-Better Manual by Luvvie Ajayi for the February challenge, yea!

March will start off with Next Year, for Sure by Zoey Leigh Peterson (not entirely sure I'll get through it, but we'll see) and The Mother of All Questions by Rebecca Solnit , which looks like it would count for Yellow 2...?

TinEye does say that The Mother of All Questions by Rebecca Solnit is yellow, but I think it is too orange.

Ashley Karczewski (ashleylorna) | 152 comments I have just finished We Were the Lucky Ones by Georgia Hunter . I would highly recommend it! Best book I've read this year, so far!

Also, I don't think I'm going to be able to finish Norse Mythology by Neil Gaiman in time for the end of this months challenge. But I have seen on the spreadsheet that you possibly have an alternative book to replace it with? Hoping so anyway :-). I'm still reading so I could still potentially finish it.

Great! Can you add a read date? For some reason the date is missing from the book review, even though it says you marked it as finished today... Goodreads seems to have lots of issues with the read dates at the moment.

Also, I don't think I'm going to be able to finish [bookcover..."

No worry. We got that one covered with another book :-)
And if you finish it, we can still use it for the mini-challenge.

maria helena (mariahel) | 964 comments FEBRUARY WRAP-UP

We've finished the first month. We completed all 13 hands and got 2035 points. We also managed to get 250 out the 320 points for the valentine mini-challenge. Great job everyone!

I've cleaned up the book tracking tab in the spreadsheet so it only has the books for the current month. Any books people have mentioned that they were going to/maybe going to read are included. Let me know if I've missed a book, or if a book is listed that you no longer plan to read. As usual, no books are placed into hands until it has been read, so feel free to switch out books if you want to :-)

Sarah | 1012 comments I finished The Land That Time Forgot.

1 - #1 in a series
2 - title
8 - author Edgar Rice Burroughs

I actually listened to it on librivox, so I would feel a bit like it was cheating to use this for a colour card, (even though it's very green), as that wasn't really my cover.

But I do have a green cover nearly finished - and the colour extractor came back 100% green!

One Corpse Too Many (Chronicles of Brother Cadfael, #2) by Ellis Peters
One Corpse Too Many

Works for
1 - One in title
2 - #2 in series
3 - character Hugh Beringer
8 - author Ellis Peters
Skip - author Ellis Peters
