I wavered for a little while over what to pick and finally started The Dinner a few days ago (I intended to do The Sense of an Ending but realized a minute after I opened it that I read it once before, whoops). It feels quite short, but different from what I expected; I'm over halfway through now and it's only just started to pick up for me.

Anyway, I'm roomgirl on LJ, I mostly lurk and this has been my late introduction lmao.

Definitely going to be reading Hidden Figures since I bought it back when it released and haven't gotten around to reading it yet. I'll probably also read American Gods and The Gunslinger as well.

I have a copy of American Gods from last year that I have yet to read so I think I'll read that. I also want to start The Dark Tower series but I'm thinking I'll hold off on that till the Spring. I'm trying to read books that I already own for the first half of the year and I don't on The Dark Tower.

I'm just starting The Circle by Dave Eggers....reviews are mixed so I hope I like it because it's longer than I usually want a book to be!

I really liked Everything, Everything. It was one of those books that I didn't want to put down. I hope you both like it! I may have to pop in the discussion thread just to add my thoughts too, lol.

Anyone doing any other challenges? I'm trying to do a combined popsugar/book riot one and trying to get them all to fit with each other somewhere, which hasn't been as challenging as I thought. :)

I read Murder on the Orient Express and really enjoyed it, quick read too! This was my first Agatha Christie. Ready to read some more works by her!

I do too many challenges, lol. I like to do monthly and yearly ones. Whenever I finish a book I spend like a half hour going through all my challenges to see which ones I can apply it to, lol.

I'm also doing Book Riot's challenge this year (6 down so far!), as well as few that have been ongoing for a while: read around the world, 50 states and an A-Z challenge among others. I can't seem to stop myself ...

A) My mind was just blown with the my writing section. I was looking for that, but of course, it's not as easy to find as I would have liked. *sigh* But I did find it and yay!

B)Those are some awesome challenges, so thank you for that! The whole reason I'm doing challenges is to get me to read books I normally wouldn't and all the challenges certainly help with that goal! :D

I just finished The Terror and I loved it! Can't wait for the show. It's supposed to come on AMC this year but other than the cast, I haven't heard anything else.

So I'm still gonna read Annihilation (picking it up tomorrow, yeaaaah!!!)

I'm also gonna count Psycho, which I listened to as an audiobook, since Bates Motel's last season is this year!

I just finished Big Little Lies and WOW I was not expecting to be so engrossed. I was a bit more than halfway through it a few hours ago and found myself unable to put it down. I'd expected some of the plot twists, but damn that last one! Sooo did not see it coming. I'm ready for the HBO series next month.

Without spoiling anything, I felt like The Dinner took a really long time to get going. The issue of the boys and the crime they committed doesn't become the proper main focus of the novel until about halfway through, and you have to stomach a whole lot of general monotony and pretentiousness before you get to that point, so I guess it depends on whether or not you're in the mood for that. It was kind of a 3.5-star read for me despite still enjoying it.

I just finished The Circle. The story itself was interesting, but the main character annoyed me. There are also a few places where it seems to drag on a bit but once you get past those it tends to pick up.

I finished The Breadwinner for this challenge.

It's being made into an animated film this year. I look forward to seeing it.

The book is the story of a young girl from Afghanistan and her life after the Taliban arrives. After her father is imprisoned, the lead character must disguise herself as a young boy in order to help take care of her family.

This is a short but poignant read.

IT is one of my all time favorite books but it is a monster to read.

Just read The Handmaid's Tale and booooy was that a depressing ride. I really enjoyed it though, can't wait to see it in motion now

Edit: I just saw the casting of The Commander and Serena Joy, def not what I pictured, flop. Way to age them down

Totally agree. The casting is so terrible for this it seems destined to flop
