I'm reading this one, too!

Cait | 5 comments I wavered for a little while over what to pick and finally started The Dinner a few days ago (I intended to do The Sense of an Ending but realized a minute after I opened it that I read it once before, whoops). It feels quite short, but different from what I expected; I'm over halfway through now and it's only just started to pick up for me.

Anyway, I'm roomgirl on LJ, I mostly lurk and this has been my late introduction lmao.

message 103: by Miki (new)

Miki (mikilove13) | 6 comments Definitely going to be reading Hidden Figures since I bought it back when it released and haven't gotten around to reading it yet. I'll probably also read American Gods and The Gunslinger as well.

message 104: by Jasmine (new)

Jasmine Gielen | 1 comments I'm reading The Glass Castle. It's great so far!

message 105: by Carla (new)

Carla (hidingmyheart) I started The Mountain Between Us last night. I'm so glad so many are going to read American Gods! Gaiman is King.

message 106: by Elena (new)

Elena (tabloid_queen) | 2 comments I have a copy of American Gods from last year that I have yet to read so I think I'll read that. I also want to start The Dark Tower series but I'm thinking I'll hold off on that till the Spring. I'm trying to read books that I already own for the first half of the year and I don't on The Dark Tower.

message 107: by Melly (new)

Melly | 1 comments I'm just starting The Circle by Dave Eggers....reviews are mixed so I hope I like it because it's longer than I usually want a book to be!

(I'm redlightlove on ONTD...usually in Bachelor posts :)

Yay! I'm not alone, hehe. I created a discussion post :)

I really liked Everything, Everything. It was one of those books that I didn't want to put down. I hope you both like it! I may have to pop in the discussion thread just to add my thoughts too, lol.

message 110: by Sasha (new)

Sasha | 104 comments After waffling a bit, I went with Annihilation but I'm going to try and hit up some of the other choices.

Anyone doing any other challenges? I'm trying to do a combined popsugar/book riot one and trying to get them all to fit with each other somewhere, which hasn't been as challenging as I thought. :)

message 111: by [deleted user] (new)

I read Murder on the Orient Express and really enjoyed it, quick read too! This was my first Agatha Christie. Ready to read some more works by her!

I do too many challenges, lol. I like to do monthly and yearly ones. Whenever I finish a book I spend like a half hour going through all my challenges to see which ones I can apply it to, lol.

If you don't want strict deadlines or page limits then Stress Free Reading Challenges is a great one. Lots of cute ones in there! I'm currently doing the Stamp collecting and a couple in the "Animal Planet" folder. https://www.goodreads.com/group/show/...

The Challenge Factory is my other favorite. https://www.goodreads.com/group/show/...

message 113: by Kim (new)

Kim | 65 comments I only found 4 books on the list(s) here that I haven't read.

1. Infinity (Chronicles of Nick, #1)

2. The Breadwinner

3. Lundon's Bridge and the Three Keys (lol what? Movie starring Paris Jackson)

4. The House of Tomorrow

Any thoughts on which one I should pick?

I'm also doing Book Riot's challenge this year (6 down so far!), as well as few that have been ongoing for a while: read around the world, 50 states and an A-Z challenge among others. I can't seem to stop myself ...

message 115: by Alex (new)

Alex (alexmorrison) | 1 comments I'm halfway through Big Little Lies and despite a slow-ish start (and getting used to the style it is written in), and I am loving it. I have to know what went down and how!

message 116: by Jenn (new)

Jenn (jalana1) I found Infinity to be so bad (writing wise, the plot seemed decent) that I gave up after a few chapters. Maybe your experience will be better...

Kim | 65 comments Ugh thanks Jenn. The reviews were not good for that one.

message 118: by Kelly (new)

Kelly (vehiclesshockme) | 78 comments Just finished my January book, The Mountain Between Us. I have regrets and I have no idea how this is being adapted by anything other than Lifetime.

Can you believed Idris Elba signed on for it? When I read the news of his casting I laughed so hard.

message 120: by Kelly (new)

Kelly (vehiclesshockme) | 78 comments I seriously can't. Like how did he look at this and be like this sounds good. lol

I'm kind of curious about that book now, Kelly! lol

This accuracy though. So true. I felt exactly the same!

A) My mind was just blown with the my writing section. I was looking for that, but of course, it's not as easy to find as I would have liked. *sigh* But I did find it and yay!

B)Those are some awesome challenges, so thank you for that! The whole reason I'm doing challenges is to get me to read books I normally wouldn't and all the challenges certainly help with that goal! :D

I just finished The Terror and I loved it! Can't wait for the show. It's supposed to come on AMC this year but other than the cast, I haven't heard anything else.

So I'm still gonna read Annihilation (picking it up tomorrow, yeaaaah!!!)

I'm also gonna count Psycho, which I listened to as an audiobook, since Bates Motel's last season is this year!

message 126: by Marlene (new)

Marlene (fuzzycerts) | 4 comments I just finished Big Little Lies and WOW I was not expecting to be so engrossed. I was a bit more than halfway through it a few hours ago and found myself unable to put it down. I'd expected some of the plot twists, but damn that last one! Sooo did not see it coming. I'm ready for the HBO series next month.

message 127: by Imogen (new)

Imogen | 1 comments I've read The Dinner for this month's challenge, and have added Hidden Figures and A Series of Unfortunate Events to my TBR (neither were available from the library in time for this month)

Love this idea!

ooh thanks I appreciate that.

Okay so I'm open to suggestion here, I'm trying to decide between

The Circle ('cause Dave Eggers)
It (have always wanted to read)
The Dinner idk it sounded interesting?

Without spoiling anything, I felt like The Dinner took a really long time to get going. The issue of the boys and the crime they committed doesn't become the proper main focus of the novel until about halfway through, and you have to stomach a whole lot of general monotony and pretentiousness before you get to that point, so I guess it depends on whether or not you're in the mood for that. It was kind of a 3.5-star read for me despite still enjoying it.

I just finished The Circle. The story itself was interesting, but the main character annoyed me. There are also a few places where it seems to drag on a bit but once you get past those it tends to pick up.

message 132: by Kim (new)

Kim | 65 comments I finished The Breadwinner for this challenge.

It's being made into an animated film this year. I look forward to seeing it.

The book is the story of a young girl from Afghanistan and her life after the Taliban arrives. After her father is imprisoned, the lead character must disguise herself as a young boy in order to help take care of her family.

This is a short but poignant read.

Ohh I may have to read that! I read another one of her books before, Moon at Nine.

IT is one of my all time favorite books but it is a monster to read.

Edit: I just saw the casting of The Commander and Serena Joy, def not what I pictured, flop. Way to age them down

Totally agree. The casting is so terrible for this it seems destined to flop
