Steph (blue01022) | 18 comments I'm very excited about this challenge! The past few years have been rough (reading-wise and otherwise), so I haven't kept up with the 500 GBBW goals that I had a few years ago.

So, this year I definitely want to read at least 20 books by WOC (not including graphic novels and manga - though depending on how the year goes, I might choose to raise my goal and include graphic novels). And I definitely want to include the following books. Most of these are by 500 GBBW authors.

Purple Hibiscus
Quicksand
Passing
The Women of Brewster Place
In Search of Our Mothers' Gardens
Coming of Age in Mississippi
Masks
A Tale of False Fortunes
American Indian Stories
Love Medicine

Update 1/6: Decided to raise my goal to 30 and include all works I read by WOC. I originally excluded graphic novels because I want this to be a real challenge. But I think it's fine for me to include easier, lighter reads by WOC, as long as I stick to my goal of reading the 10 'serious' books listed above.

.

Books read:

January:
Skim
Emiko Superstar
Heaven or This
The Girl from the Well
Acorn
Year of Yes
On Board the Titanic
Saving Montgomery Sole
The Suffering
Respect

February:
The Thing About Luck
The Women of Brewster Place
Mom & Me & Mom
Juliet Takes a Breath

March:
Mama Day
Saving Lucas Biggs
I Feel Bad: All Day. Every Day. About Everything.
Love Medicine

April:
The Hate U Give
Riding Freedom
Free Soul
Purple Hibiscus

June:
Koko Be Good

Steph (blue01022) | 18 comments Thanks, Brina! If you get to either of those two and would be interested in a buddy read, let me know!

Brina I'm an impulse reader. Whenever you would like to read any of these books I am open.

Brina March works for me if it works for the two of you.

Luke (korrick) | 2004 comments Welcome, Steph! It's good to have you back.

Also, for all of you interrested in coordinating a group read, you're welcome to advertise it at this disused discussion board here: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

As for a place for the group read itself, I don't think LM has its own board yet as part of the compendium, but I could be persuaded to set up a more temporary place when the time comes.
