Happy New Year everyone!I'll nominate The Raphael Affair by Iain Pears, a series I have heard good things about and have been meaning to start for some time
I've been a member for some time now. This month has been the first time I have actually dedicated time to read the selected book, which I am thoroughly enjoying. Also, I have never participated in the discussion, so this should be fun!My nomination for the next book is Gorky Park by Martin Cruz Smith.

I don't know if it's ok to nominate my own book, but the first in the Buried Ladies series was just released and I'd love to lead a discussion to learn how to improve future books in the series.Ignore if this is inappropriate.

Yeah, it really isn't the place, but what you could do is if you get enough interested people is set up a buddy read for your book (we have a separate topic thread for buddy reads). That would definitely be okay.

Happy New Year to everyone!I'd like to nominate The Crossing Places, by Elly Griffiths. I haven't read any of this author's work yet, but I understand this book won the 2016 CWA Dagger in the Library award.
The Crossing Places
Can I nominate A Killing in the Hills. On my to-read list for quite a while with lots of good reviews.

We've already read Linwood Barclay -- can you pick another author.

to reiterate, just an FYI:
"Please do NOT nominate an author we've previously read and please make sure it is the first book in an ongoing series."

Gisela wrote: "Can I nominate A Killing in the Hills. On my to-read list for quite a while with lots of good reviews."Yes! It's been on my bedside table for years!
I'm new to this genre so I look to your suggestions. What constitutes the difference between thriller and mystery/crime? More juice, suspense or what? Thanks.
Caroline wrote: "I'm new to this genre so I look to your suggestions. What constitutes the difference between thriller and mystery/crime? More juice, suspense or what? Thanks."It's largely in the eye of the beholder. Fortunately, this group includes all three so it doesn't really matter.
Now You See Me - by SJ Bolton (Lacey's Flint#1) - was a Goodreads rec because I enjoyed Tana French novels. https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/9...
The Gray Man by Mark Greaney."To those who lurk in the shadows, he’s known as the Gray Man. He is a legend in the covert realm, moving silently from job to job, accomplishing the impossible and then fading away. And he always hits his target. Always."
Ive been meaning to read/begin this series for a while. Now seems a good time to begin. New year, and all. So, I'll nominate it for this month.

I'd like to nominate the first Spenser: For Hire novel, The Godwulf Manuscript, by Robert B. Parker (whom I don't think we've read?).
Little Face by Sophie Hannah. Agatha Christie's grandson, Mathew Pritchard, chose Hannah to write the next Poirot books. This first book in the series shows why!
Tom wrote: "I would like to nominate The Yard by Alex Grecian. It's the first book in the Murder Squad series.
"I've been wanting to read this series - a friend loves it!
I like quite a few of the nominations but I'm going to nominate one too,
Open Season by Archer Mayor, the first Joe Gunther book.

Hi Nancy ... Apologies for what might seem a really silly question, but if you've nominated a book to read do you still vote? (Still learning the etiquette of group membership ... !)

Thanks, Jannene! That was the last book I'm taking as a nomination.

You should have absolutely no problems finding info about mystery/crime/thriller series -- there are several really good places on line if your mind draws a blank.
PLEASE don't nominate a book unless you are 100 per cent willing to be the discussion leader if your choice wins.
And as always, authors, this is NOT the venue for promoting your own work.
Now, on with the nominations!
