You have a few challenges listed there. At least nos. 5, 7, 9, and 11 all challenged me, and forced me to think through what was happening.
But the good news for both of us is that no James Joyce or William Faulkner appear on any prior yearly BOTM list!!

I'm pretty excited about this year's list. All of them will be new reads for me (with the exception of Animal Farm, which I haven't read since high school).
I actually like what I've read of Faulkner. But I totally agree about Joyce!

I also like Faulkner. The Sound and the Fury, Spotted Horses, The Bear, and Absalom, Absalom are all superb stories to me. But a lot of people are thrown by his stream of consciousness writing. That may be why he is not often thrown into the mix of BOTM choices. Maybe between the two of us, we can find an occasion sometime to introduce a Faulkner story in those choices.
Joyce is my favorite. Dubliners, Portrait of the Artist, and Ulysses are all excellent. Ulysses is laugh out loud silly at times, which was his intent. I have not had the courage to try Finnegans Wake, however.

The Sound and the Fury is one of my favorite novels. If we get a chance to nominate a Faulkner choice, I'm all for it. Light in August is the next Faulkner on my list.
I did like Dubliners, but the only Joyce novel that has any appeal to me is Ulysses. I've been resisting reading it, though, because one of my friends has talked about it so much, I'm kind of desensitized to it.
