I believe it was a series and in one of the books she helps solve an illegal game scheme where a fancy restaurant was using illegal game. I remember that at the beginning of the first book there's a wedding and she has an allergic reaction or something of that sort and her mom has just died. Her mom is reincarnated as a wren I am pretty sure. Also at one point she gets trapped in an animal's cage/place where it can roam and is chased. Also, when trying to snoop at the restaurant she almost gets caught and has to pretend that she's working there. The head chef makes her make meringue.
