Grace F. Edwards wrote a short series of books with a heroine named Mali Anderson. Valerie Wilson Wesley wrote the Tamara Hayle books. Both heroines are black women who were former cops. I think I preferred Edwards' series.

You mentioned reading Alexia Gordon's new series - Murder in G Major. Other recent cozy series with African American women as main characters are:

Murder with Fried Chicken and Waffles by A.L. Herbert

Deep Fried Trouble by Tyora Moody

Hollywood Homicide is a new mystery by Kellye Garrett

An older cozy series is Barbara Neely's Blanche White - Blanche on the Lam

Barbara Sousa | 504 comments I wanted to find a book featuring a lighthouse for a challenge in another group, so I downloaded samples of 6 different books and ended up choosing The Lighthouse Keeper by Cynthia Ellingsen . It was a really good romantic suspense novel that featured mystery and treasure hunting!

Rebecca (mamanyt) | 129 comments I've just started The Nine Lives of Christmas by Sheila Roberts . Yes, it isn't my usual thing, and it is VERY light reading, and it is WAY out of season, but it came in a whole box of books sent by a dear friend who has a used book booth at a flea mall, and who sends anything she thinks I might enjoy. There IS a very engaging cat.

Yes, this is the book that they made the Hallmark movie from, and thus far, the book is, as usual, FAR better than the movie.

I love de Lint and his urban fairy tales. I just finished The Ivory and the Horn (Newford, #3) by Charles de Lint and will be starting Someplace to Be Flying (Newford, #5) by Charles de Lint when I get offline today! de Lint has gotten me through some of the toughest, darkest times of my life, and I can read and re-read his books forever.
