What are You Reading Besides a Cozy?

Hi Nell - I've thought about reading that - how are you finding it so far?

I wish I could find more cozies or even mysteries that feature African American women. But I read a wide range of mysteries - just finished F is for Fugitive by Sue Grafton and the..."
Grace F. Edwards wrote a short series of books with a heroine named Mali Anderson. Valerie Wilson Wesley wrote the Tamara Hayle books. Both heroines are black women who were former cops. I think I preferred Edwards' series.

Currently reading Magpie Murders

You mentioned reading Alexia Gordon's new series - Murder in G Major. Other recent cozy series with African American women as main characters are:
Murder with Fried Chicken and Waffles by A.L. Herbert
Deep Fried Trouble by Tyora Moody
Hollywood Homicide is a new mystery by Kellye Garrett
An older cozy series is Barbara Neely's Blanche White - Blanche on the Lam
SYKM has a diversity index. Here's the link to mysteries with African American MCs

I downloaded the first 3 books of this series. I've been looking forward to reading them. The premise looks intriguing. Good to hear you stuck with them until book 10.

It's a beautifully tragic story about a boy scout, a 104 year woman, an absent father, and the Guiness Book of World Records....

I love this author. He has a beautiful victorian house in my boyfriends neighborhood.

Yes! I love Pulp. I'm adding this one to my list.

My book club just read a book about the Little House series and it made me want to go back and read these favorite childhood books. I may need to call my dad and have him search the garage.

What a beautiful, lyrical book, ..."
Thanks for the beautiful review! I'm definitely adding this to my list. Hard to find good westerns these days.

It is hardboiled. I liked it enough that I have others in the series on my Nook, just not books 2 through 5...yet.

Me too! How I wish I had my Daddy's old _Argosy_ magazines with pulp fiction in them.

I just picked up The Big Sleep by Raymond Chandler. Can't wait to start it.

Gary,
Hope you enjoyed

Nell, thank you so much for posting this. I'm already interested in reading the Charlie Peace stories.

Really enjoyed it. The book was based on the screenplay, which Maclean also wrote. The book and the movie are great fun. The score by Ron Goodwin is a classic. The Pinky and The Brain parody is rofl funny.

I love Louise Penny's mysteries. I just finished her newest one The Glass House.

Yes, this is the book that they made the Hallmark movie from, and thus far, the book is, as usual, FAR better than the movie.

I liked Gwendy's Button Box!

I read Gwendy's Button Box not too long ago, you will like it, not as scary as King's usual books. It is a good read!

Me too! It was not like his others!

I love the audio because Spike from Buffy is the reader.

Victoria - James Marsters is the perfect Harry Dresden! John Glover was so disappointing narrating Ghost Story.
Reincarnation Blues sounds really intriguing, and I love the cover.
Rebecca - That's wonderful that your friend sent you books that mean so much to you.

If you like Christopher Moore, Carl Hiassen, those sort of books you will enjoy Reincarnation Blues.

Hi Barbara - I love audio books and listen in the car too - mainly because I can't stand the radio most times! Will give this a listen - thanks!
