Julie Ditton (storybooklady) | 37 comments I recently read Marvel Masterworks the Amazing Spiderman and Mighty Marvel Masterworks; the Amazing Spiderman. They both collect Amazing Fantasy 15 which shows the origin story of Spiderman and then Amazing Spiderman 1-10. It was a kick to see the original comics from the sixties. the first title also includes the rediscovered artwork from the first Spiderman story showing erasures whiteouts and other edits in the line art based on Stan Lee's notes to the illustrator Steve Detko.

Julie Ditton (storybooklady) | 37 comments I just finished Ascendance of a Bookworm: Part 5 Volume 5 Ascendance of a Bookworm Part 5 Volume 5 by Miya Kazuki This novel is number 27 in the Japanese light novel series. I don't usually get started on them because the genre is like a fantasy soap opera. The story just goes on and on and on. But I got hooked on it when I watched the anime with my son.

I loved the early books which are sort of Harry Potter meets Sherlock Holmes. The later books have less investigation and more action hero. But I am still enjoying them.

Julie Ditton (storybooklady) | 37 comments I just enrolled in NetGalley and read these great 5* books.

I loved Hit the Road Jack by Willow Rose. She is a new to me author but i will definately be reading more of her books. here is my review for this compellling book. https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2...

I also read two children's books. Birds of a Feather: A Book of Idioms and Silly Pictures byVanita Oelschlager is a whimsical picture book that appeals to young children but also provides a springboard tor a Language arts lesson In my opinion it is a must have for school libraries. https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

I also read an ARC of an upcoming children's book due in October.
Coyote's Wild Home by Pulitzer prize winner Barbara Kingsolver. this storybook is a gentle lesson in environmentalism with beautiful artwork. https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

Julie Ditton (storybooklady) | 37 comments I just read 6 chidren's children's books.

Where's Spot? was for a book club. here's my 5* review of the timeless classic. https://www.goodreads.com/review/show....

I read three books for Netgalley.
Ellie's Deli: Wishing on Matzo Ball Soup! features a Jewish kid but the appeal is universal. This heart warming book covers several themes. https://www.goodreads.com/review/show....

Cat Family at The Museumwas a 3.5* rounded to 4 flap book intended for older kids. It was interesting but didn't have a clear target audiance.

The Great Race: The Story of the Chinese Zodiac tells the origin tale of the Chinese zodiac, elaborating on the characters that each sign posess. It also explains why Cat and Rat don't get along.
https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

Out of curiosity I looked at two other books on the same folktale. Another book by the same title The Great Race: The Story of the Chinese Zodiac is reviewed here.
https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

A variation The Great Race was fantastic for younger kids.

message 1670: by Karen (new)

Karen (xkamx) | 580 comments As if I have all the reading time in the world, I've been RE-reading favorite romances when not reading cozies. A scene from one pops in my head, so I revisit, just to read the scene... sure. I wind up reading the whole thing again, then others in the series. Those lead me to other scenes and series. Comfort reads, I guess. I know what I'm getting and I can read them faster because I've read them before (in some cases, many times before!).

Sort of doing the same with cozies. I've been revisiting favorite series. I found an online library that had copies of the Selma Eichler series Desieree Shapiro. That made me think of Elizabeth Daniels Squire and her Peaches Dann series so I (re)read those, too.

I need to get back to new reads. So many of my series have new entries I haven't even picked up this year -- with more to come.

You're describing my reading pattern this year! Think of scene -> read scene/book -> read another and another and...
J.D. Robb thought of scene... dozen or so later and each leads to reading another.
Nalini Singh Psy-Changling bear twins star in new book thought of scene in previous book... read bear books which led to Mercant books which led to...
Ilona Andrews, Jayne Castle, etc.
Trying to escape real world?

In between I'm making effort to keep up with cozy series but last month realized I missed new releases of some favorites late last year and early this year. I'm not even sure how it happened.

Thank goodness for this group or no telling how far behind I'd be.

Kate | 2 comments I am trying to read the 2nd in a series of Joshua James books called Uprising. So far, I am loving it. Finding the time to read it? Has been challenging. I am a huge fan of all things Science Fiction and especially post-apocalyptic sci fi. But I go through phases. These are fast reads, surprisingly well written with intelligence, not easy to find in this genre. I also watch too much TV and am watching GOT for the third time. I am 70 and have a lot of illnesses and too much time on my hands. But I also had cataract surgery on both eyes in December and it changed my close up vision dramatically. Docs say it will take up to two years for my eyes and brain to sync up after 70 years seeing a certain way. So I can only read in short bursts right now. Stay young, my friends! Stay young!!!

A cute Hallmark movie in book form. If you love the small town charm of cozy mysteries and don't mind the improbable antics of the cozy mystery heroines, you'll like this one. It's not a mystery but it's VERY cozy. It's a vanilla paint by numbers Hallmark movie but I enjoyed it.

Karen (xkamx) | 580 comments Kari by Terri Anne Browning
Kari by Terri Anne Browning

MY REVIEW

I was led to this book after reading Browning's book Hating Piper, part of her Rocker's Legacy series -- which is part of her Rocker Universe. I normally don't read series out of order, but the book's description lured me in. I really enjoyed the characters and their story so much that I wanted to read more in the related series of the "universe" -- only in order, of course -- which pretty much comprises every series she writes. I found a reading order on her website and Our Broken Love, a collection of five stories, was listed first. Kari is the first story in the set and is part of the Safe Haven series.

Only the audio version of the books in the print edition are listed on GoodReads separately, which is why I posted my review there.
