Zermeena | 725 comments I friend gave me The Death of Mrs. Westaway by Ruth Ware The Death of Mrs. Westaway so I gave it a try. By page 50 I decided this book wasn't for me. Mainly because I thought it was boring, the plot had barely inched along and I found myself skimming passages. I'd be interested to hear if anyone else here has read this book and what they thought of it.

Love Paula McLain’s historical fiction but her first foray into mystery was a little too dark for me.

I really enjoyed it as it involved three major characters looking into the murder, each with their own task/goal. I like that because sometimes following one detective in the whole book can tedious. It is somewhat gory. Then there is the lead-in to Book 2; it's not quite finished.

message 1298: by NANCY (new)

NANCY WADE | 6 comments I just finished Sara Donati's Into the Wilderness. It is a historical romance/action. I felt like it was a blend of the Last of the Mohicans with Outlander. Sara actually referenced some of the Outlander character names in one segment. Lots of steamy romance, very sensual and plenty of gripping action. I felt the ending was a bit weak though and the author did not tie up all secondary story lines.

Narrator Jim Frangione Sorry, Jim, your narrating skills couldn't save this one.

Cliffhanger

First installment in a serial, not first book in a series.
I looked back at the information about the book and it says series. Maybe a series of serialized books? I don't know and at this point I'm not sure I care.
Usually when I get a new Ward book I read straight through it even if it means staying up late. It says something that with this one I started and stopped both the kindle book and the audio book several times.
I can't say I was really enjoying it before the cliffhanger. There were plot elements I didn't like but I probably would have continued reading a series hoping I would like other books more.
A serial installment disguised as a book in a series? That's a trick I don't like. I feel betrayed. I no longer trust Ward to deliver a complete book.
