Alice | 756 comments I am reading Before She Disappeared Before She Disappeared by Lisa Gardner by Lisa Gardner. I haven't read a book by Lisa Gardner in ages. Set in Boston area, our main character, Frankie goes around the country looking for lost people that no one else can find. Very good so far.

MadameZelda | 651 comments The challenge is to read a book by Kim Harrison. (I don't care of the author's books, however...). So I am reading and listening to A Fistful of Charms A Fistful of Charms (The Hollows, #4) by Kim Harrison .

Meg (makeli2) | 1534 comments Almost finished with the latest book (#23) in one of my favorite series. It's a mystery series that I consider borderline cozy because we really get into the lives of the MCs. Should be read in order, imo, to get the full effect. I've been with it since the first.

Bodies in Paradise by Deborah Brown Bodies in Paradise

Jeannine (jeanninereads) | 15 comments Hi there! I raced through two cozy-adjacent (Deanna Raybourn...adjacent because they take place in London) series in January and am now working through a third, the Lady Emily Mysteries by Tasha Alexander. I wasn't really sold until the fourth book and now I'm enjoying the fifth.

Karen (xkamx) | 580 comments I recently finished The Invitation by Vi Keeland
** The Invitation by Vi Keeland Loved it!! Nice... Sweet... Romantic...

It tells the story of Hudson and Stella, who first meet when Stella and her bestie, Fisher, crash a high society wedding. Hudson knows she a crasher and before security gets her, Stella and her friend run out. Oops... neither she nor her friend think to grab her phone and she has to face Hudson to get it back. This is the start to their relationship. I won't go into detail about the story itself, but both bring baggage and there's a (not-so-surprising) twist that threatens their future together.

Sometimes when reading I copy off quotes that hit me. This book had THREE!

Stella explains to Hudson how she tries to have a happy outlook on life:
"I try to give someone a compliment every day. That might not seem like much, but it causes you to find something good in at least one person each day. After a while, it helps change your mindset. Another thing I do is set aside ten minutes to meditate each morning. I also watch the sunrise or sunset at least once a week. And I try to do something I’ve never done before every single weekend." -- Sounds good to me!!

Hudson to Stella:
"You’re not a woman who needs a man. You’re a woman a man needs." -- Good lord... How romantic is that!

Fisher trying to help Stella see what's in front of her:
"I think life is a series of stepping stones that branch out in all different directions. We have no idea what path we’re supposed to follow, so we tend to walk a straight line and follow the biggest stones, because that’s the easiest thing to do. Coincidences are the smaller stones that lead you on a path that veers off. If you’re brave enough, you follow those stones, and you wind up exactly where you’re supposed to be." -- How true!!

Alice | 756 comments I am reading The Dark Angel The Dark Angel (Ruth Galloway, #10) by Elly Griffiths by Elly Griffiths. Excellent series. This is book 10. I recommend reading them in order. Very well written about a single parent who is an archeology professor in England. This book moves setting to Italy. In each book the characters grow a little more, you learn about archeology and the marshes of England. Highly recommend.

Heather L (wordtrix) | 14 comments Have just finished The Warden by Anthony Trollope for a classics group read. Though there were some amusing names (eg: a general attorney named Haphazard) and passages, I found it fairly average. Great book for improving one’s vocabulary, though.

Alice | 756 comments I am reading The Four Winds The Four Winds by Kristin Hannah by Kristin Hannah

I Set in 1930's during the Great Depression, drought etc.

Ms. Hannah writes beautifully but it is not the most exciting time to write about. Reminds me of Grapes of Wrath. Haven't decided how much I like it yet I am only 100 pages into the book. Will keep you posted. Has anyone else read it?

message 1190: by Meg (new)

Meg (makeli2) | 1534 comments Alice, haven't read it, and honestly am not super compelled to because the time period is not my favorite time to read about. The Grapes of Wrath was on our recommended (not required) high school reading list and I never could get into it.

Penny (veteran1976) | 143 comments Just finished Murder at Mabel’s Motel (A Granny Reid Mystery, #3) by G.A. McKevett . This was the 2nd Granny Reid mystery that I’ve read. Like all of G.A. McKevetts books, I thoroughly enjoyed it. The characters are so endearing but in this particular novel, there was a very wicked twist to the mystery that caught me off guard. Made the story all that more intriguing. Highly recommend it.

Penny (veteran1976) | 143 comments Currently reading A Fatal Waltz (Lady Emily, #3) by Tasha Alexander by Tasha Alexander. It is the 3rd in the Lady Ashton series that I’ve recently discovered. This series may not be considered a cozy mystery because it doesn’t take place in a small town but I’m totally hooked and can’t wait to read the next one. Highly recommend them to any mystery lover.

I'm a fan of that Tasha Alexander series, too.

When we think of what 'cozy msytery" means some of the lines are blurry. I don't define cozies as having to occur in a small town.
