It sounds like a cozy to me. I've added it to my tbr, so I'll be interested in what you think of it.

I've become addicted to J.R. Ward's Black Dagger Brotherhood. In the last 9 days I've read the first five books.

After reading it, 4 stars, definitely cozy. I'll probably use books 2 and 3 as one of the possible selections in my April serial reads.

Barbara Sousa | 504 comments I just finished listening to The Life We Bury by Allen Eskens by Allen Eskens. I was intrigued by the premise from the beginning, and the story unfolded in a way that was wholly immersive. It was my first book by the author, and won't be my last. So glad I listened on audio -- it brought that much more depth to a very compelling story.

Sounds intriguing, I've added it to my tbr. I agree about audiobooks - a good narrator can add so much more to the experience.

While I was grocery shopping this morning, I started listening to The Jury Master, by Robert Dugoni. I get a lot of strange looks when people see a cord running from my earbuds to my pocket, but I can get an hour or so of listening done while I shop :)

In the story, there have been a lot of characters and story lines introduced that don't seem to have much to do with one another, but I'm sure it will all come together eventually. So far, I like what I'm hearing...

I read #1, #2 & #5 in that series. Really liked #5, not so much the other 2. Should have been right up my alley, but something just didn't click.

I think my timing was just right when I started the books. I had a friend recommending them to me a year ago, and I wouldn't have gotten into the series then.

It's certainly not a cozy, but it's still a mystery :) I'm reading an ARC of Elly Griffith's latest book in the Ruth Galloway series, The Chalk Pit. I stayed up later than I should have last night reading and I'm regretting it today.

Please let us know what you think of it. That book has been on my TBR list for a while now. I really like Ken Follett generally, but am afraid that if I read that book, I'll get swept into reading all three really long books! Maybe after I finish the "Clifton Chronicles" series.

Gary, I'm always intrigued and tickled by your book choices. By the way, I looked up _Leave No Stone Unturned_ since you were reading it, and found that I had downloaded a free copy a couple of years ago. Last night I put it on my Kindle and hope to start it soon.

I am a bit behind on my review writing. I enjoyed Leave No Stone Unturned. I also grabbed it for free for my Nook years ago. Skinwalker has been on my Nook for even longer back than Dec of 2014 when I started using GR. Reading challenges help clear off the TBR. Of course I tend to acquire books on the Nook faster than I can read them up.

message 73: by C-shaw (new)

C-shaw Oh, me too, with my Kindle downloads. I have HUNDREDS of them stored on my home computer, along with 22 pages (perhaps 300 books) presently on my Kindle and a few thousand books in my home library. I know I won't live long enough to read them all, but what can I say: I'm a hopeless addict! Every day I see new ones I HAVE to have. I also use two libraries, but not much and with lots of caution (limit of a few books at a time) because I need to have personal possession of my books so I can read them today or next year or whenever. It's a wonder my family doesn't plan an intervention, but what the hay. I quit drinking and drugging and smoking and don't carouse; a girl's gotta have SOME vices. Well, there is my addiction to jelly beans too. . . . :-)

BLynne I finished Forever Odd by Dean Koontz and really enjoyed the story. I find the lead character Odd to be very interesting and fascinating. There's heavy and then heavy. . . My Kindle has been a godsend for those physically heavy tomes! No more bruised nose when I go to sleep reading and drop it on meself. Can't say the same for the psychologically heavy ones, alas. :-]

Have you read any of his books for kids? I loved The Island of Dr. Libris and Escape from Mr. Lemoncello's Library. I'm hoping to get to the next Lemoncello book this month, and Home Sweet Motel is on my list too.

message 85: by C-shaw (new)

C-shaw Oh yes, I absolutely adored _Mr. Lemoncello's Library_. Haven't read _Home Sweet Motel_ yet (that's the first I've heard of it), and I bought _The Island of Dr. Libris_ but haven't read it yet. I did buy the first three John Ceepak books yesterday, along with the Ceepak short story.

I saw it on the "new books" shelf in the children's department at our public library last fall, or I wouldn't have known about it either :) I'm still trying to decide if I want to read The Crossroads, the first in another of his series for kids -- I think it was his very first kids' book? -- but it sounds a lot creepier than the others.

message 88: by C-shaw (new)

C-shaw Don't know about _the Crossroads_ either. My goodness, he's prolific! Creepy may not be a good thing for a kids' book, but I don't mind creepy myself, since I'm a tough old dame. :-)

message 93: by Jan (new)

Jan (janwright) I finished reading Bullet for a Star by Stuart Kaminsky, his first Toby Peters series set in the 1940's. I had already read his book Mildred Pierced, which is a little later in the series, but I got it cheap on my kindle app. Now, I'm reading his second Toby Peters book, Murder on the Yellow Brick Road. I guess you can tell that this series has Old Hollywood stars. There is humor in his books, but they don't quite qualify as a cozy. Kaminsky has 3 other series, I think. Anyone else read any of this author's books?

I love the Toby Peters series. The Howard Hughes Affair is the next one up for me. I picked up Mildred Pierced when it was on sale. Open Road needs another sale on this series. I am waiting for a sale on his other 2 series as well. Kaminsky also wrote two CSI NY novels.
