the first book in a series you haven't read before

Theresa I read Significance (Significance, #1) by Shelly Crane ...unfortunately it did not work for me...it had potential but never seemed to progress and move forward....the supernatural element was not fully explained and the angst became so far fetched that I was simply glad that it was over...oh well, on to the next one!

Ashley (ashezbookz) I could totaly read harry potter lol .. so it can be any book doesnt matter the year it was released for anything on this list, just as long as I read it in 2017

You haven't read Harry Potter? Oh man! That could fit SO many boxes in this challenge list!

And yes, it can definitely be from any year (unless the challenge item lists otherwise, like Published in 2017). It just has to have been read in 2017 (unless the challenge says otherwise).

Ashley (ashezbookz) I just read the Surgeon by Tess Gerritsen book 1 in a series definitely never read it before.. very bloody lol very adult though I did like the mystery of it the who did it aspect.. I want to read Stalking Jack the Ripper but my library doesn't have it on ebook yet and I have 3 regular books on order so I should wait .......I gave it 3 stars, I'm unsure if I will continue the series, but I doubt it, I feel like it was quite concluded for me I don't think I care to read anymore

Liz (lizhughes) | 1 comments I just finished the Land of Stories: The Wishing Spell by Chris Colfer. The plot and character development wasn't anything new. The fractured fairy tale characters are similar to those in other books and the ending was totally predictable. That being said, it is a children's book and I can think of about three different types of kids I could recommend this book to. Colfer had a fresh voice and I did enjoy his writing style. I probably won't read the rest of the books in the series, but I think kids would totally be hooked to see what happens next.

I agree that Colfer's series seems so formulaic! I opted out of reading this after previewing a few pages and determining that it would be a little too predictable (it's nice to see I wasn't wrong on that count!).

My kids and even some of my teens at the library absolutely love this series and treat it like it's the first of its kind. Which, to them, I guess it is.

Shelby (eyesmiles) | 1 comments I read Delirium (Delirium, #1) by Lauren Oliver for this challenge item.

I was totally into the romance aspect of it at first, and was kind of mad about the ending. But then I realized how empowering Lena's journey was and really enjoyed it! I will definitely have to check out the other books in the trilogy.

Melissa (readinthecorner) | 108 comments Peter Nimble and His Fantastic Eyes (Peter Nimble, #1) by Jonathan Auxier

Peter Nimble and His Fantastic Eyes is a fantastic (pun intended) series starter for a middle grade reader. I enjoyed Auxier's more developed style in The Night Gardener, but the magic and overall whimsy is still very appealing.

I don't think I'll continue with this series myself, but I know I can recommend this heartily!

I'm finding that a lot with series recently. Where the first one is good or okay, but not enough to keep me reading into a series. I very much appreciate a good, solid standalone or a solid duology. I had that issue with An Ember in the Ashes- I thought Torch was the sequel/end, and it's now book 2 of maybe 4.

Updated: The Cruel Prince (The Folk of the Air, #1) by Holly Black by Holly Black .

Well-paced, political intrigue with sexy bits and a dark-feel fae world. Great start to the series!

Check out my page for the spoiler-free review.
