Autumn wrote: "I LOVE that book! That is one of my favorites of 2017! I would put it in my Top Five for sure! Did you love it too? ."The good parts were really good and the characters were expertly done. As I said in my review, though, it was pretty slow at the beginning. Also, although there were two big surprises that I didn't expect, much of the resolution became predictable about midway through the book. I still really enjoyed it but those points were what kept me from assigning it five stars as I was tempted to do.
Tom wrote: "The good parts were really good and the characters were expert..."I apologize I did not read your review. I was so excited someone had read it that I immediately commented.

No apology necessary. I'm glad that you were excited and even in the review I never said whether or not I loved it.
Almost done with Robicheaux

I just finished reading an ARC of Gods of Howl Mountain, Taylor Brown's next book. It's his best yet.
Here is my review.

Finished
The Rose in Winter by Sarah HarrisonYou can find my spoiler free review at https://www.goodreads.com/review/show... orhttps://sandysbookaday.wordpress.com/...
All the King's Men
by Robert Penn WarrenThis political novel, written in the 1940s, is just as relevant today as when it was published. The story is about a governor who'd do anything to get his way - including bullying, bribery, and blackmail. Along the way he betrays his family and corrupts a good man. Excellent book. 4 stars

And it resulted in a great movie in the 1940s, All the King's Men, as well. (Starring Broderick Crawford and Mercedes McCambridge, it won Best Picture for 1949, as well as Best Actor and Best Supporting Actress.)

I don't think it did that well at the box office.
