Review:
So sad that this series is finished, as I've loved every book in it so much. For a novel that's over 600 pages, it sure didn't feel that way and it was over way too soon. I did think this book ended the series well and am looking forward to starting the spin-off series soon.

Book: Born of Vengeance by Sherrilyn Kenyon
Date Read: 3/27/17
Rating: ★★★★
Review:
This is a hard review to review to write because I really did like the book but after reading Born of Legend it just didn't measure up. Born of Vengeance did much like Born of Legend in that it repeated parts that were told in previous books only it was from Bastien's POV. And surprisingly I wasn't annoyed by the repetition.
I loved learning more about Bastien. I didn't realize how many times in previous books he had made an appearance and had developed friendships with the different characters. As for Bas and Ember, I didn't feel the connection and passion between them that I did with the other couples but both were strong and likable characters.
By the time it was all said and done it was like a huge family reunion. The only thing I didn't like was the ending regarding Thia. (view spoiler) It will be interesting to see how that plays out. It will be a long wait until February when Born of Trouble is released.["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>

SEP has this talent for creating heroines that you either love or hate. This one is on the 'hate' category for me.
Piper is an PI tasked with following the movements of Cooper Graham, the former Stars' quarterback. He immediately makes her but offers her a job when he realizes he could use her talent in his new business.
Piper is a man-hater with a chip on her shoulder the size of the Grand Canyon. At some point, she says she would have preferred to be a lesbian and you can tell she's telling the truth. For a change, she's a capable SEP heroine instead of being the usual madcap - she's really good at her job - however, she's terribly unprofessional. She supposedly has all this "morals" but she does several illegal things and even provokes a fight with a 250+ lbs. man! What woman with a brain cell would do such a thing? The business of the ring made me so mad that if I had been the hero, I would have been tempted to slug her. She has no respect for Cooper's job as a quarterback - like being an elite athlete is a cakewalk - and judges men without knowing anything about them. I couldn't stand her and don't know why Cooper was in love with her.

Book: Gone
Read: 3/31
Rating: ★★★
Either I started reading this with the bar set too high because of all the rave reviews ~ or maybe I just wasn't in the mood for this type of story when I read it... but I found it kind of boring. It reminded me of the Maze Runner a bit, although I didn't really connect with any of these characters and didn't care much what happened to them. There were some cool things, like talking animals and interesting "powers" which was probably my favorite parts of the book. Perhaps if the story was not so lengthy, I would have given it another star.

Book: The Man Within by Lora Leigh
Date Read: 4/1/17
Rating: ★★★★
Review:
The Man Within continues the story of the Feline Breed now that they have let the world know who & what they are. Veronica Andrews has known Taber most of her life. After losing her mother she has lived in fear of her worthless father who drops in every few months wanting money. Taber is the only one she trusts and the story begins with him having to bail her out of jail - again. Roni is always getting in trouble and Taber is always bailing her out.
Through the years her feelings for Taber have gone from the adoration of a little girl to a woman's lustful burning that she is unable to stop. In one brief moment their passions ignite and he forces himself to give Roni time to make sure this is what she wants. Due to the actions of another Taber does not return as he promised and she is left feeling abandoned, broken-hearted and marked.
The story jumps forward 15 months and Roni is being accosted by reporters because someone had spotted her "mark". A trusted friend helps her flee and takes her to his cabin to wait for Taber. He has accepted that Roni is his mate, however it takes a bit of time for her to come around.
Genetically-altered humans is a great storyline. There are different Breeds that were created (Feline, Wolf, etc.). It is definitely erotica but it didn't shock me like the first book did. I'm looking forward to continuing the series.

Anyhow, I'll start my new job on the 18th. I didn't get any extra money as this was a lateral move but I'll be able to learn lots of skills which will make me more employable in the future, whether in this company or somewhere else.
I thought I should share, given my hysterics a few weeks ago!

So glad you didn't just let it go, and now you'll be in a much better place!

And that's the moral of the story...not to let it go! I was told that given my situation, I shouldn't continue looking but I didn't give up, specially because I knew the other stuff hadn't been my fault. Then when this position opened up, I realized I knew somebody that worked on the same broader team, reached out, they were happy to recommend me for the interview and voila! A couple of weeks later, I got a new job.

Review:
Another entertaining read by Kasie West. While it's not my favorite of hers, that still belongs to On the Fence, it had many aspects that I did love and enjoy. The idea of being trapped in a library was interesting, a little unbelievable nowadays with almost everywhere having an emergency exit, but I let that go for the sake of the story. I remember when I was younger thinking it'd be cool to spend a night in the library, so besides the fact that this was written by West I knew I'd want to read it for that. The main characters were very likable and each had an issue to deal with/overcome. Autumn deals with anxiety issues, which sound very scary. Dax hasn't had the happiest home life and his story, when I finally learned it all, was sad. I do wish there would've been a little more about at the end, but all in all it was a very nice read and one I'd recommend to any YA contemporary fan.

I know! I almost gave it 5 stars, but felt I couldn't because I would've liked a little more on some things. I did round up to five stars in my Goodreads rating though. :)

Burn for Burn by Jenny Han
When I'm in the computer tomorrow, I can fix this post with the actual cover, etc. :)

Book: Burn for Burn
Read: 4/6
Rating: 3.5 stars
I picked this book up since my daughter has it in her room to read -- and sometimes I like to check out her books. :) I found it a very fast, cute, light read! It was basically about 3 girls who banded together to get revenge on people who had wronged them. All of the girls were flawed and interesting. It very much reminded me of why I'm glad to never have to be in high school again. Teenage politics is the worst! It was also a good lesson in consequences. Sometimes when you're looking to cause harm to someone, it can easily not go as planned and sometimes unintended more detrimental damage can be done ~ which is a horrible feeling when you are the one responsible. I will probably go on to read the next book too, just cuz....

Date finished/Rating: ★★½
I read Again the Magic many years ago and didn't remember a thing about it. With this re-read I know why I originally rated it 2 stars - the misunderstanding is one of the stupidest I've ever read.
I found it hard that a smart man wouldn't realize the reasons for her actions when they had been so close and knew each other so well OR that he would hold such a grudge because a woman ended a relationship. I mean, really! As soon as they see each other, it's clear they are still in love but Aline harbors a secret that she thinks would make the relationship impossible.
This is one of those misunderstandings that could have been fixed with an honest conversation. That's why the secondary romance took a lot of the spotlight, because there wasn't much to the primary one.

Book: The Ruby Circle by Richelle Mead
Date Read: (4/8/17)

Review:
An enjoyable read for the end of a series. Though not as good as Vampire Academy, Bloodline was an enjoyable spinoff. It's been over a year since I had read Silver Linings so I had a little bit of trouble getting back in to the series.
Sydney and Adrian are a strong couple and the plot twist was unexpected but it worked very well. The loose ends were tied up nicely. If you enjoyed the Vampire Academy series you will enjoy this one as well. I think this series is strong enough to stand alone but reading VA will provide some more background into the different social classes and rules.

Just FYI...I'll be going on Holiday from tomorrow to Sunday. I'll try to post the shelf but very likely I won't be able to. I'll request all stamps when I return. :)
Hopefully, we'll get one of the ones we need! :)

Review:
I was excited to start this series, because I really liked Sydney in the Vampire academy series, and I wasn't disappointed. Rose was a good main character, but there is just something about Sydney that I loved more. The setting was interesting, definitely different than the last series while many some things were the same. One of them was a secret, even from Sydney, but I thought it almost immediately and I don't know if that was intentional or not for the reader to be surprised - it didn't alter my opinion of the story. I hope to read the next book soon, I have a feeling I'll be enjoying this series.

Book: Forever with You by J. Lynn
Read: 3/24
Rating: 3-stars
Review:
I'm typically a HUGE Jennifer Armentrout/J Lynn books so I was kind of surprised at how many times I rolled my eyes reading the first third of this book. It started off a bit cheesy and almost like a deja vu... Although JA/JL books typically follow a formula, I wasn't looking for anything way out there. But the story line itself seemed so done before. I will say that it started to pick up from there and not that this book blew me away by any means, but I did start paying better attention and started to connect with the main characters. I did skip a book to get to this one since I had it and am thinking I will go back and read the book before this at some point. (Maybe once I get past my mystery/thriller/horror phase...)
