I'm gradually making my way through The Odyssey by Homer. That's rather hard work. However,
by Edgar Allen Poe is a much quicker read. I read the Raven for my Poetry bit. The Odyssey is also poetry, but that's a translation, so the poetry is gone.1/3
Here are the 4 books I plan to read for the challenge. 1/4 completed today – I’m still not keen on reading poetry, but this was quite light reading.1. Shakespeare vs. Chaucer; Homer vs. Virgil. Read any work by one of these four greats – The Taming of the Shrew – William Shakespeare – completed 11/06/2014 - ✓
2. Poetry: Read any collection of poetry. – Travelling Light Poetry by Vickie Johnstone – completed 06/06/2014 - ✓
3. World Literature: Read any work written by an author from a country that you have never been to OR a work set in a country you have never been to – The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini - Completed 29/06/2014 - ✓
4. Biography: Read any biography about or autobiography written by a significant historical figure – The Autobiography of Benjamin Franklin - completed 30/06/2014 - ✓
JUNE: THE REQUIRED READING MINI CHALLENGE: 1/4Duration: June 1 - 30, 2014
June's theme is End of Term, so let's catch up on books that might have been required reading in school.
1. Shakespeare vs. Chaucer; Homer vs. Virgil. Read any work by one of these four greats.
Hamlet, Macbeth, King Lear: Three Tragedies
2. Poetry: Read any collection of poetry.
Paradise Lost and Other Poems
Neverwhere
4. Biography: Read any biography about or autobiography written by a significant historical figure.
Read Wide Sargasso Sea for "World Literature." It takes place in the Caribbean and a bit in England.1/2
2/4 completed – I have read The Taming of the Shrew by William Shakespeare. I try to see a Shakespeare comedy each year at the Cambridge Shakespeare festival and but make sure that I have read the play. The Taming of the Shrew is my choice this year, so this challenge was a perfect chance to read it.http://www.cambridgeshakespeare.com/

Hi,I've read
for "3. Read any work written by an author from a country that you have never been to OR a work set in a country you have never been to."2/3
3 / 4 completed The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini. I read And The Mountain Echoed earlier in the year and loved it and so this has been on my TBR list since then. Message 16 updated
Just 40 pages left of my final book to go............
I regret, but I'm giving up on this one. I started off very ambitiously on The Odyssey by Homer for item 1, but I got sidetracked by the other June challenge. So then I ran out of time to finish it.So I thought I go for the autobiography instead by reading Out of Africa, but I'm having a lot of trouble getting into this. My kindle is telling me that I still have 13 hours to read, and we've gone past noon here in Holland. And I still have to work this afternoon, so I guess it's no longer possible to finish it today.
Boehoe, my first failed challenge!
4/4 Challenge completed with a few hours to spare!!!!!For my final book I chose to read the Autobiography of Benjamin Franklin. Being British, I didn’t really know much about Benjamin Franklin (to the disgust of my partner who loves American History), but I couldn’t decide on which British significant historical figure’s biography to read about, so I thought, why not try it. I was pleasantly surprised that I really enjoyed reading this book. It wasn’t about him as a politician and inventor, but about his youth, love of books, and determination to move away from his family to set up his own printing business.
