Sloane wandered the library happily. He wasn't a huge reader, more of his time spent in music or gaming. But occasionally he'd read if he found a book that seemed interesting enough.

Mei had ended up finding a book which was a crime thriller and soon found hersend sitting on the stepping stool engrossed in every page.
Sloane didn't see any real interesting books that caught his eye so he went and sat at one of the tables in the library, setting his backpack on the floor beside him
Mei grabbed the book and was about to shelve another when the bell rung and she climbed down and headed toward her usual window seat in the student area. She pulled out her laptop and headphones and booted it up before starting to edit her singing over her acoustic guitar and adding dubstep where she needed it.
Sloane headed to his next class, science. It was one of the few classes he actually enjoyed so he paid attention and participated like a good student.
Mei stayed there in the library till lunch, engrossed completely and content. During second break, she began to work on her second piece. That was when the group of girls from that morning walked in and she hid behind her laptop.
Sloanes off hour was during her second break. He headed back to the library, finding it quiet and peaceful. He found a quiet table and sat down, looking around him.
The group of girls found her, despite how she tried to hide. The ring leader approached Mei and she stayed quiet and silent as she called her insults like 'four eyes' or 'book whore'. This wasn't the first time and definately wasn't the last. They left, giggling among eachother, and Mei sat there looking straight ahead of her for a while before curling her legs up inder her on the window bench and pulling out her composition book and flipping to the back before begining to jot down itty bitty lyrics. Thats what she usually did after theu'd finished belittling her. She released her rage on a page.
Sloane hadn't seen the girls tormenting Mei. If he had, he probably would have intervened. Not because he liked her or anything, but just because he hated seeing people treat others horribly for no apparent reason. Sloane sighed and stayed where he was, finishing up some homework he'd gotten so far that day so he wouldn't have to do it tonight.
Mei realised that she'd been gripping the pencil so hard that it snapped. She looked at the splinters of wood in her fingers and the pricks of blood that came. She looked at them before picking the shafts of wood out and sucking the blood. Thag was the worst thing that could have happened. She needed to work. That was her strumming hand.
Sloane looked around the library occasionally as he worked, just watching some of the other students and how they acted and stuff. He noticed Mei and bit his lip lightly, hoping she was alright after what had happened yesterday.
Mei fished in her pocket and found a few bandaids and peeled them and put them on the cuts on her right hand before looking at the drops of blood that had wet her music lyrics. She wiped them, only spreading them and gave up. Slumping forward a bit she closed her eyes for a bit. She couldn't cry. She had no tears left.
Sloane watched her and frowned. He grabbed a piece of paper from his backpack. He scrawled quickly on it before balling it up and tossing it over to where she was. He then went back to what he was working on, acting like it wasn't him. On the paper, he had written in his slimy handwriting, 'Keep your chin up. Whatever's wrong will work itself out and it'll be alright. Or you know, throw things, scream and then solve stuff. That works too.'
Mei opened her eyes when she felt something land in her lap and picked up the ball of paper before looking around for who it could have been, but saw mo one out of the ordinary. She opened it and read those words of encouragement, the last bit making her smile a bit. She folded the paper neatly and slipped it in her composition book. The bell rang and she packed her stuff and headed toward the councellor's office.
Sloane got up when the bell rang and put his stuff in his bag. He quietly walked out of the library and started making his way to his next class, stuffing his hands in his pockets. (Is it alright if Sloane gets in a fight with someone and gets sent to the counseling office to calm down?)
Mei sat there practising her guitar, since the councelour wasn't there. He never was. But she didn't mind. It gave her time to be in her happy place.
Almost to his next class, some guy came up and shoved Sloane back. "Stay away from my girl." The guy growled. "Whoa. I didn't steal any girl." Sloane said, holding his hands out calmly. "Yes you did. She broke up with me because of you. The new mystery guy." The guy replied, swinging a fist at Sloane. Sloane ducked down out of the way quickly, letting his backpack hit the floor as he swung back out at the guy, punching him in the face. The guy fought back but Sloane was a better fighter. It took a teacher and one of the security guards to pull Sloane away from the other guy and pin his arms. The guy was taken to the nurse while Sloane was taken to the counseling office to calm down before he'd see the dean.
Mei had her eyes peacefully closed and was even humming along when the door slammed open and she jumpedas a teacher and security guard brought Sloane in and he sat down across from her. She watched the teacher and guard leave and sensed the tension in the room escalate. They left and she put her guitar down on the seat next to her before looking at Solane a bit worried, not sure if she should talk as he seemed fustrated.
Sloane slumped in the seat, his bottom lip split and a welt on his jaw. He clenched and unclenched his fists, staring at the floor. He hadn't even realized that he wasn't alone. He mumbled softly to himself.
Mei slowly got up and quietly walked to him and stopped in front of him, holding out a tissue and looking at his welt "I'll go get an icepack" she said quietly, not asking him how it happened.
Sloane shook his head slightly. "It's fine." He said in a barely audible voice. He kept moving his hands, trying to calm himself down. His backpack had been picked up by the security guard so it wasn't like he could grab his earbuds and listen to music or something.
Mei set down the tissue next to him and walked back to her seat, picking her guitar and deciding to continue strum before she began to sing her piece softly https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Ewh90rx...
Slogans shut his eyes tightly, just tying to calm himself down before he ended up getting himself into even more trouble. He mumbled softly to himself, his voice so quiet that it didn't make much sense.
Mei suddenly stopped and looked at her guitar and sighed "You okay?" she asked him quietly, not masking the concern in her voice. Though her eyes never left the guitar.
Sloane shrugged his shoulders, not speaking to her. He eventually just started talking his fingers against his legs, not making fists anymore.
She listened to him, turning toward him and giving him her undivided attention. She listened and sighed a bit fustrated "So then I guess you've met Ezra huh? They guy who swung at you first". He'd been whining to her over text anout how his girlfriend broke up with him for Sloane. Mei frowned and met his eyes "He's a douche and he swung first right?"
"He swung first. And honestly, he's a terrible fighter." Sloane mumbled softly, shrugging. He didn't look up at her, still biting his lip and tapping his hands.
"If he swung first, then you're fine. The dean'll believe you. He hates Ezra". She got up and walked to the small storeroom near the enterance of the office and got a small icepack from the bar fridge. As she walked back to her seat, she left it near the tissue and sat back down in her seat.
"Given my record, I doubt it." Sloane shrugged, keeping his voice low and quiet. He glanced around then, still not taking the ice pack or anything.
Mei looked at him, and then let him be. He didn't sound like he wanted to talk.
Sloane usually talked in a low voice, he always had, it was just who he was. He glanced around wondering how long they'd make him just sit there.
Mei looked at the clock and opened het mouth to say something when a nurse with a warm smile entered the room "Just here to check if he's okay" she said simply before looking to Mei with a smile "Oh hello Mei, how have you been?" she asked warmly and Mei managed a half smile back "Yeah well". They knew eachother but only due to a certain event . The nurse looked at Sloane and offered him a few bandaids, but saw there was already ice next to him. She looked at Mei "Is your dad alright?" she asked and Mei flinched "He passed away" she replied bluntly and the nurse gasped "I'm so sor-" she began but Mei cut her off with a sharpness that was foriegn to her character "You didn't know". The lady then clammed up turning to Sloane and saying "The dean will see you in a few minutes and then leaving the room and Mei crossed her arms against her chest and took deep breaths.
When the nurse came in, Sloane was nice enough to tilt his head up so she could see his jaw and face. His face was starting to bruise a bit but he didn't care. He listened to the nurse Speak to Mei but didn't say a word. He waited for the dean to come.
The dean knocked on the door and entered, only gesturi g for Sloane to follow and then exting the room. Mei wayched them both leave quietly.
Sloane stood up. He glanced at Mei and offered a weak smile. He stuffed his hands in his pockets and followed after the dean silently.
Mei smiled back. The dean stood, arms crossed and looked at Sloane as he exited the door "Right. So I've geard Ezra's side of the incident, now tell me your recount". He was intimidating but definately saw what was rght and wrong.
Sloane sighed, looking around them. "I was walking to class. The guy came and shoved me, saying something about me stealing his girl. I said I wasn't and he swung at me. I swung back and the fight went from there." He said calmly, biting his lip.
"Now that sounds a bit more believable" he said with a smile that was so small it almost wasn't there "Ezra said you attacked and he didn't fight back. Unbelievable as you wouldn't hit yourself on the jaw" he finished, gesturing to the welt on his jaw and from there, eyeing his piercings "Take this as a warning" was all he said and then walked away. As he did, the bell rang and Mei slowly exited the room and looked up at Solane through her glasses "How'd it go?"
Sloane nodded to the dean, rolling his eyes and smirking just a bit as they walked away. He picked up his backpack from where it'd been left by the door, biting his lip. He shrugged. "Fine I guess. Didn't get a suspension." He said quietly, debating if he should go to his next class or just head home and call it a day.
She smiled "I told you he's not that bad" she added and then looked at her boots in silence before looking back up at him and smiling a little "Well I won't be in maths next period, I'm heading down town" she added and then tapped her guitar case "Got some work to do"
Sloane shrugged. "Okay. I won't be either." He wondered why she'd be heading downtown with her guitar but guessed she had some music gig or something. He put his hands in his pockets, starting to walk to the main doors of the school.
She fell in step next to him, since she was heading the same way "Do I scare you?" she asked curiously, out of the blue.
"Why would you scare me?" Sloane asked, walking beside her. He looked around, not looking at her. He bit his lip and glanced at his phone guessing that the dean would probably contact his guardian or someone about the fight and they would then call him.
She raised her eyebrows "You mean why wouldn't I scare you. I talk to myself, I get beat up and sing like a lunatic" she smiled but then faltered. That was what everyone said. Maybe he was different?
Sloane rolled his eyes. "So what? Why would that scare me?" He muttered quietly. He honestly wasn't afraid of much and even if he was scared of something, he'd never show it.
"Signs of insanity. You don't even tease me" she pointed out and then stopped at the top of the stairs before the exit "You know what scares me?" she managed before looking sideways at him.
"Great. Now I'm labeled as insane. I'm sure some people would love to hear that." He said sarcastically, starting down the steps. Sloane glanced up at her. "What? What scares you?" He asked softly.
She smiled at him softly "Just how much I like you even though I've just begun to know you" she replied looking him dead in the eyes truthfully before passing him swiftly and going on her way down the stairs. She waved back at him "See you around!" she called over her shoulder and rounded the corner of the school gates before making her way to the subway.
