Sloane led her back to his house, through the garage and into the kitchen, biting his lip lightly. He had seen the welt on her face so he went over to the refrigerator and opened up the freezer, grabbing an ice pack and offering it to her. "Here So your cheek won't swell as bad." He said softly.

Mei had noticed his lip biting habit and blushed a bit and looked away. Why'd she been observing him so closely. She looked at the ice pack and then to him before shaking her head "I-I'm fine. I-its not that bad". She was lying. It was horrible, her ear was still ringing.
"I saw the welt. It's gonna swell and the ice will help so it maybe won't swell so much or bruise as badly." He spoke as if he'd had experience with hits and bruises and all that. Sloane watched her for a moment, setting the ice pack on the counter between them.
She looked from the ice pack to him and then gingerly took it and cautiously placed it to her cheek. She winced from the pain, so much so she bit her tongue and tasted blood. She looked at the bench top and then up at him "Why did you help me?" she asked out of the blue "You could have just left me there. Why?"
Sloane shrugged, biting his lip still. "Why not? I didn't think it very nice to leave someone all alone out crying in the rain..." He said softly. He walked to the door to the garage, stepping out there for a moment and turning off the stereo before coming back into the kitchen.
"Well you'd be the first" she responded quietly and watched him leave and then return "I guess you'll have to get used to seeing that often" she said bitterly. They'd been fine. Before that man. When dad was still there.
Sloane shrugged, looking at her. He frowned a bit at her bitter words but didn't seem too bothered. "You can come over here as refuge if you ever need to." He said in a low voice.
She laughed a bit "Then I guess you'd better get used to me practically living here". Mei sighed and swallowed her tears "I'm fine...I guess. I have to be fine"
"Okay." He shrugged. Sloane almost argued that she didn't have to be fine but he shook his head slightly and kept his mouth shut. Not going to say the wrong thing and upset her more.
She looked around the house "Where are your parents?" she asked, wondering if they were home or not. Mei knew this might be a sensitive question.
"Not home." Sloane stated simply, biting his lip. He didn't ask about her family despite his curiosity, not feeling like talking much right now. He absentmindedly ran his fingertips over the tattoo on his forearm.
She looked at his tattoos curiously. The one on his forearm was intricate and took it as a hint that he probably loved music, but the one on his collarbone. Now that piqued some questions. She looked at the words curiously.
Sloane noticed her seeming to study his tattoos and rolled his eyes. He hesitated before pulling the collar of his shirt down a bit so she could see part of the quote that spanned across his collarbone from one shoulder to the other.
Mei jumped a bit as she realized he'd caught her staring and was quick to apologize. She read it and then lent on the counter "You like music?" she asked, gesturing to his forearm tattoo.
"It says What happens when the dreamer dies." Sloane muttered since she couldn't see the whole tattoo. He nodded, looking at the tattoo on his arm, that was the first tattoo he'd gotten.
She opened her mouth to say something when she heard her step dad yelling her name next door. She put the ice pack down and swore under her breath before looking to him "Can I use your backyard for a sec?" she asked quickly.
"Uhh. Yeah. Sure." He pointed her down the hall to the door to the backyard. Confused but figuring she knew what she was up to so he'd just let her do her thing. He left the ice pack on the counter.
She gave him a half smile "Thanks a bunch" she replied before making her way to the backyard and then easily climbing a tree and on to a branch which was right outside her room window and slipping through the open window into her room before her father figured she wasn't in the house.
Sloane sighed. He went out to the garage and brought his stereo back in before closing the garage door. He flicked the lights on in his room and put his stereo back on top of his dresser.
She skipped dinner that night because her mother was out and instead stayed in her room, playing multiplayer online on her Xbox. She'd rather that than face her father. He loved her brother. Just hated her.
Sloane turned his stereo on, letting music play as he unpacked some more of his stuff, including his xbox and games. He hooked it up to the tv and got everything plugged in but didn't turn it on. Wanting to get his room in order
It was then Mei realized she hadn't finished her music for work after school the next day and got out her acoustic guitar and music which had notes and rests and lyrics all over it. Sitting on her bed with her window and curtains open, she worked on the piece, singing, strumming and writing till late in the night where she fell asleep clutching her guitar and notes.
Sloane stayed up most of the night. It wasn't like he had any reason to. He just didn't want to sleep and his 'mother' apparently wasn't coming home tonight so he figured he could get some stuff done. He unpacked all the stuff for his room before moving on to a couple of the other boxes he'd brought into the house.
(( Skip to morning on my post? ))
Mei stood in the kitchen frying bacon while her little brother finished up his homework. They both only came downstairs when their father left for work. Mei was dressed a bit more formal than she usually was. Not to show off, only because she was heading down town after school. She wore a red knitted sweater, over a simple black dress with a white collar and a opaque black pantyhose. Plating the bacon, she handed it to her brother before making sure she had her guitar, umbrella and bag. Satisfied, she tied her hair up in a bun, slid on her glasses and sat on the stairs of their house, slipping on a pair of white socks and then wedged lace up boots because it was freezing that morning.
Sloane hadn't slept at all. He left his room where he'd been playing video games and took a quick shower before getting dressed. Black jeans and Tshirt. Black leather jacket that was quite warm and today he chose red converse with black laces. He ran his hands through his hair, grabbing his stuff and heading downstairs. He grabbed an apple and sat on the counter, eating it.
Mei had just been about to leave when she forgot. She still had a bruise on one side of her face. No swelling, just a huge black and blue bruise. Going to her mother's makeup drawer, she did her best to hide it with concealer. She didn't want any unnecessary attention and set it with a powder before rushing downstairs and grabbing the house keys and her brother. Locking the house, she started to walk him to the bus stop across the road and then gave him a hug before leaving on her way to school, shivering from the cold. She glanced at Sloane's house.
Sloane ate his Apple peacefully. He tossed the core in the trash, locking up the house as he left. He bit his lip lightly, debating something. He shook his head and started walking to school, not looking around much.
Mei was walking when up ahead she saw a group of girls and immediately slowed her pace. They were the school's popular girls, the one's who had patronized her since 5th grade. She started thinking of an escape plan anything. But the road was un-crosssable and there was nowhere to hide. She closed her eyes hoping for the worst but instead of hearing "Hey queer" she heard them gasp and one say "OMG it's that new hottie in school" and the rest giggled. she opened her eyes and followed their eyes to behind her where, not too far of, Sloane was walking quietly. The girls turned around and hurried past her to him and Mei couldn't help but smile and giggle a bit. Poor guy. They'd be on his case forever.
Sloane sighed softly as the girls came up to him. He stuffed his hands in his pockets, not saying much. The few times he spoke, it was typically in a low voice with short one or two word answers. He kept walking to school.
Mei walked through the school gates and ignored the cat calling boys at the entrance to the locker rooms. They flirted with any and every girl so she'd learnt to ignore it. When she reached her locker, there was someone leaning against it. He flashed her a huge white grin and she rolled her eyes with a smile "Move Ezra, you're in my way" she replied simply and Ezra laughed "Damn you don't change do you". They'd been childhood friends. But he was a popular kid, a jock. She punched him and laughing, he moved aside "Well, see you round" he smirked with a wink and she looked at him, clearly pissed, but then proceeded to put her stuff away.
Sloane eventually tuned out the girls. He walked through the school gates and headed up the steps and inside. He knew there was still a bit of time before class started so he wandered the halls.
Mei had music class first up, so she grabbed her guitar and music folder and her maths book for period two. She walked down the hall toward the courtyard.
Sloane found the courtyard from yesterday and headed outside. So far, he hadn't seen really anyone out in that courtyard so he liked it. A little quiet place that he could come hide out in in case he almost got in a fight or something.
Mei took a seat in a secluded part of the courtyard where no one ever went and pulled out her guitar and began to sing a piece she'd been working on for music ((https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LjwJH...))
Sloane glanced around him, hearing music but having no clue where it was coming from. He bit his lip and just listened to it, sighing softly.
She stopped midway when she heard something wrong and clicked her tongue "It's an octave too high" she said to herself before the bell rang and she walked to the music rooms, being the only other person in the courtyard. She saw Solane and gave him a small smile before heading on her way.
Sloane nodded slightly at her. He headed to his first class of the day, a student assist in the schools counseling offices. He walked in, talking to the secretary there. He'd met them yesterday when he was filling out paperwork and getting his schedule and everything.
Mei sat in music class, bored out of her brains and only able to concentrate on everything outside of music. Lunch, afterschool, Sloane. She blinked her eyes at the last thought and shook her head a bit. Sloane? She frowned and continued to strum her guitar until the bell rung for maths.
Sloane honestly just sat around in the office through the class period. He got up when the bell rang for maths. He found his way to the math classroom, taking a seat at the same desk as yesterday
Mei entered behind a few other people and when hopefully unnoticed. Taking a seat at her usual window seat, two seats in front of Solane, she pulled out her textbook and sighed exasperatedly.
Sloane took out two notebooks. One was empty and labeled for math class and the other was a thick composition book, grey and worn down like it's been used a lot.
Mei looked out the window and hummed to herself, tapping her shoe and pen in a tune that only she could hear. Even though she was clearly not paying attention, every time the teacher called on her, she replied promptly and accurately giving him no reason to get angry at her.
Sloane listened to the teacher but instead of taking notes, he was writing in the worn notebook he had. It was almost completely full but he didn't mind. He'd use it until he completely ran out of pages.
Mei glanced over at her shoulder at Solane and the treble clefs and semi quavers on his page caught her eye. She turned back slowly. So he composed music. Huh, well that was one thing they had in common. The bell rang and Mei left the classroom with the last select few individuals as she usually did.
Sloane put his math notebook in his bag. He carried his composition book with him though as he got up and walked out of the classroom. He looked around, biting his lip.
Mei made her way to the courtyard. She had a spare lesson next and then had to see the school counselor after that. Sitting in her usual corner, she pulled out a book, sat paralell to the bench with her back against the wall and her kneed to her chest and read. Her guitar case was on the ground and her composition sheets on top in a display folder.
Sloane decided to head to the library, just curious to see where it was and what it looked like. Plus, he figured the popular girls that kept trying to talk to him wouldn't be there.
Mei closed her book content in finishing it and then began to walk to the library. She was there for her spare lesson so she may as well return her book and help the librarians before the bell rang. She was a familiar face there and smiled at the librarian behind the desk and handing her her finished book before she offered to shelve the returns. She pushed the trolley behind her to the the non fiction section. She was left there and slowly she began to shelve them, climbing the stepping stool there for books she couldn't reach. She was only 5"4.
