How many of these are you?

1) The thought of ripping apart a book for a craft project horrifies you.

2) You've been caught sniffing books in the back aisle of a used bookstore.

3) Even though you're grown, the words "school book fair" excites you to this day.

4) You hate going to movies based on books, because they never live up to the movies in your head.

5) You look at garage sales and thrift stores as a way to rescue books, not just buy them.

6) There's a real concern your TBR (To Be Read) pile could fall over and crush you in your sleep.

7) You know more classic author quotes than pop culture catchphrases.

8) You've dated a librarian just for the bulk discount on bookmarks.

9) You think about characters long after you've finished the book, and wonder how they are.

10) You've added GPS tags to your bookplates so you know where your loaned books are at all times.

11) You bring a book to every event, even a date, because you never know when you'll have the chance to read.

12) You tweet your favorite (living) authors and do a happy dance in the living room when they tweet you back.

13) If they follow you back on Twitter, you lose your mind.

14) You own multiple copies of your favorite books, because you can't resist a snazzy new cover.

15) You love all books, whether they're electronic, paper, scrolls or etched on stone tablets.

16) You have no idea what's on television tonight.

Kathryn (sscarllet) | 72 comments (1) The thought of ripping apart a book for a craft project horrifies you. - I don't mind this - in fact I have a few displayed around my house. Its ok if the books are going to be destroyed and are unsavable.

2) You've been caught sniffing books in the back aisle of a used bookstore. I didn't think anyone would see!

3) Even though you're grown, the words "school book fair" excites you to this day. We have a book fair in my office building, its never very good but still I get a tingle.

4) You hate going to movies based on books, because they never live up to the movies in your head. This is 50/50 for me. I sometimes just like to see the characters and sets come 'alive' on screen.

5) You look at garage sales and thrift stores as a way to rescue books, not just buy them. Books should be proud to fill my selves - or feel like they've won the lottery!

6) There's a real concern your TBR (To Be Read) pile could fall over and crush you in your sleep. More of my husbands concern!

7) You know more classic author quotes than pop culture catchphrases. Definitely

8) You've dated a librarian just for the bulk discount on bookmarks. No

9) You think about characters long after you've finished the book, and wonder how they are. I totally do this, glad I'm not the only one!

10) You've added GPS tags to your bookplates so you know where your loaned books are at all times. Is this a thing?

11) You bring a book to every event, even a date, because you never know when you'll have the chance to read. If I forget I end up buying a new one.

12) You tweet your favorite (living) authors and do a happy dance in the living room when they tweet you back. I've never gotten a response :-(

13) If they follow you back on Twitter, you lose your mind. See above

14) You own multiple copies of your favorite books, because you can't resist a snazzy new cover. I tend to replace when they start falling apart.

15) You love all books, whether they're electronic, paper, scrolls or etched on stone tablets. Only paper books for me (except for the occasional pdf for a book I'm reviewing)

16) You have no idea what's on television tonight. Bad night for this question - its the best night for TV all week!

I know I'm a book nerd when I put as much work into my Goodreads profile as I do my Facebook one. I know I'm a book nerd when my mother, grandad and Nanny before me are/were book nerds as well. I know I'm a book nerd when I am writing ten of my own books! :)

1- I'm weird but I love book art and crafts made from books. I don't see it as wasting them though - I see it as preserving them another way. I guess I just love everything bookish. I wouldn't do it with a valuable book or anything by any means.

Some books I have that are damaged I want to do crafts with.

2 - I get caught sniffing books everywhere :)

3 - Yes! Why can't we have school book fairs as adults? Nothing else has compared :(

4 - Sometimes, it depends

5 - True that

6 - YES! I joke this will be my method of death, but I would probably be awake and sorting the books

7 - Sadly, no. I need to read more classics. My brain has a memory issue and memorizing quotes or sources isn't for me. I love collecting them online, though, for quotes are awesome.

8 - No, it's hard enough to find a regular man that likes to read

9 - Yes, a lot of characters I love rarely leave my mind long

10 - No, I didnt even know this was possible. Thankfully not many borrow books from me

11 - Yes

12 - Yes

13 - Twitter is wonderful

14 - Yes, for my favorite series this is true

15 - I love all books, although to me not everything listed was actually a book.

16 - Since my shows are over for the year, true...but I have been watching a lot of TV shows this year. Guilty of that! :)

Thom Swennes (Yorrick) | 592 comments They have all applied to me at some time in my life. I must say that being labelled a nerd is somewhat derogatory and I don't think it really fits people with our unique affliction. I didn't see anything wrong with dating the owner of a book store. My choice of her unsold paperbacks (minus the front cover) for free I saw as icing on the cake. Having someone that you can discuss books with and you share the same affinity for the written word is a true blessing. Oh! I forgot to say that she was also very attractive.

Scott (thekeeblertree) 1) The thought of ripping apart a book for a craft project horrifies you. (worse than the shining)

2) You've been caught sniffing books in the back aisle of a used bookstore. (there, at the house, in the aisles, just about everywhere i have a book out)

4) You hate going to movies based on books, because they never live up to the movies in your head. (depends ... i like to go and then i like to bitch about it after)

5) You look at garage sales and thrift stores as a way to rescue books, not just buy them. (indeed)

7) You know more classic author quotes than pop culture catchphrases. (it's close)

9) You think about characters long after you've finished the book, and wonder how they are. (most certainly. that's how i know a book really touched me)

10) You've added GPS tags to your bookplates so you know where your loaned books are at all times. (haha, no, but great idea! i usually just don't loan them out)

11) You bring a book to every event, even a date, because you never know when you'll have the chance to read. (yep, always have one on me)

14) You own multiple copies of your favorite books, because you can't resist a snazzy new cover. (yep)

15) You love all books, whether they're electronic, paper, scrolls or etched on stone tablets. (oh yeah! thought i'd hate ebooks but it's pretty awesome)

MissJessie | 37 comments 17. When, upon visiting a new town or city, you search out bookstores before "places of interest".

18. You are on the email list of all the libraries within 100 miles, so you will know when they are having their sales.

19. You don't think anything of driving 60 miles or more to get to such a sale. For a good one, you might even book a night in a cheap motel to be there when the doors open.

20. You are on the e mail list of Sotheby's so as to be notified when they have rare books sales. Not that you can afford them, but it's wonderful to look at the online catalogues.

21. You have been known to buy a hard copy of said catalogue if the books are truly wonderful.

LOL well I was trying to sound nice. I prefer books to people most of the time. I'm not anti-social but books are so much more interesting.

message 27: by K (new)

K | 286 comments Karen M, you realise it takes an interesting person to create an interesting book. When I say I'd rather spend time with a book than people, I just mean that I prefer staying in than going out and enjoy alone time. It does not mean people are not interesting.

Oh, I agree, some people are very interesting but sometimes I'm reading a book that I just don't want to put down. I'll have that little debate in my mind, book or go visit whoever. Book wins more times than not. Shame on me! LOL

I'm planning a move in the next few months and so far the only thing I've packed are books but only the ones I've read. You can tell what my priority is!

Ashley Marie I've no idea what's on tv (aside from Indians baseball games) but that's because I no longer have cable. got screwed over by TimeWarner so we switched to DirecTV and got screwed just as much by them, so... Netflix it is! and we've been buying whole seasons of our favorite shows to help fill out our movies shelf :)

but yes, generally I'm either reading a book, trying to write a book, or playing computer games where I attempt to achieve world domination in medieval Europe :D

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) I'm the same way - just netflix here. I don't want TV enough to justify the cable bill and hassle. I also mainly just watch TV shows myself.

message 44: by K (new)

K | 286 comments I have always loved TV shows, but the story-telling kind, not goddamned reality TV! I have drawn so much inspiration from television series throughout my life and certain shows (and most especially their characters) have really helped me get through some very hard times: As a little 5 yr old, MacGyver was my hero. While all the other little girls loved the Disney Princesses (I liked the movies, of course, but I never admired them)I wanted to be as cool as him; when I was a tween, my first crush was Dean Cain's Superman who taught me to be honest and true and kind (and was my first real introduction to Superman); In my early teens came Xena, who taught me to be strong; Not long afterwards (and somewhat simultaneously) there was Buffy who taught me not just to be strong, but that it was also alright not to fit in; Then came Charmed and the best three (eventually 4)sisters in the world, who also became my proverbial sisters and support system when I had no real support system in the real world; Stargate Sg-1 and Stargate: Atlantis appealed to my adventurous side, my quest to explore the unknown and finally... FINALLY... my greatest love... the imaginary one who will always have my heart in fiction, the one who was there during my loneliest times, my saddest times, the one who showed me all of creation and always said that I was okay, that we are all good and wonderful no matter what anyone else thought, the one who helped me to become the open-minded, well-rounded woman I am today... The Doctor. The single, most wonderful character that has ever come from anyone's wonderful mind EVER. More important to me than any literary character or movie character. That, to me, is the power of television. It was the perfect escape for a sad, scared and lonely little girl who grew up being bullied and judged and take for granted by everyone around her. By inserting myself into the worlds of these characters- even just in my own mind and fan fiction- they saved me from doing the unthinkable, they helped me go on, they helped me through my battles, they made me strong. Books are an escape for me, too, obviously (otherwise I wouldn't be here), but television helped me more than anyone could possibly understand. :) Anyway, that's my say for today.

K C Smith | 26 comments It's terribly comforting to know that everyone here showed up for my Book Fanatic/Lover/Nerd (whatever term you prefer) Party. Sometimes I'm afraid no one else will show up, thereby confirming my OCD with books. Not only do I visit bookstores (love new and used), thrift stores, and libraries on vacation; but, I also take trips JUST to hunt for books. Then, I find a spot to disappear into whatever new world my precious books take me to.

Is anyone else upset with the decline of smaller, locally-owned bookstores? I understand the advantages of Amazon, e-books, and bigger chains; but, I miss the character of the small bookstore.
