Oh my that was a good one! (Winds of Winter) Though, I wanted to do bodily harm to the hero. I think he got off way too lightly.
I think these HPs fit your criteria/theme: heroine wrongly accused, published before 2000, some angst. Whether you'll like them is another matter. :) The Jordan book does contain sex, but I don't think it overtook the story.Echoes of the Past by Sally Wentworth
A Man Possessed by Penny Jordan
Any other suggestions? As I mentioned, no book beyond the year 2000 please. A Man Possessed by Penny Jordan exactly fits the bill as far as what I am looking for goes. It was a good read. Thanks for the recommendation!!

Good examples of awesome books with this theme are:
Tomorrow Come Soon by Jessica Steele (A favourite of mine)
Intimate Enermies by Jessica Steele
To Claim a Wife by Susan Fox (Another awesome favourite)
The Black Sheep by Susan Fox
Please recommend books that are filled with angst. The hero can't understand why he is drawn to a supposedly 'bad' heroine and tries to resist and stay away from the heroine. He ends up being mean to the heroine. He grovels at the end and makes up to the heroine for his mistreatment. Usually he punctuates his grovelling by taking care of the heroine in some way as she is usually physically injured or unwelll.
Thanks in advance!
PS: I have heard Maya Banks has a couple of books with this theme but I hesitate to read them as they are more recent.
