Read a book set in high school

I read Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda and let me tell you! It is a great book and gave me all the feels. I hope you like it :)

Here is my list:
Read a book with more than 500 pages: Gemina
Read a book published in 2016: Ink and Bone
Read a book by a female author: I'd Know You Anywhere

With the coming school semester, I'm not sure if I will be able to get through all of these but I will try!

my list:
Crystal Storm- read a book with magic.
Cress- read a book with more than 500 pages.
Rotally Screwed- read a book by a female author.
Passenger- read a book with one word title.

For this challenge I'm planning to read:
Read a book based on a true story/Read a historical fiction:
A Northern Light (I just started reading this)

Wayfarer (I'll probably reread Passenger first though)

I already have a few books that I'd like to read this month, but lots of them can be read for these topics.
Published in 2016: The Girls by Emma Cline
Non human characters: Anna Dressed in Blood by Kendare Blake
One word title: Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell
Female author: Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas
Manga: most likely Madoka or Vampire Knight (I'd like to start my "read more manga" resolution with my favorite)

Overall, I found the book to be a captivating psychological-horror that touched on the topic of abuse, specifically marital abuse. The first-person narration threw me off at first but eventually I found myself enjoying the story being told through the eyes of Grace. I found the characters particularly interesting, especially Jack and Millie.
I highly recommend this book to you all! While I was taken aback by certain moments in the book, there was one scene that was particularly difficult. I will not go into detail but if any of you read the book, let me know so we can discuss that scene and the book as a whole more in-depth!
I gave this book four (4) stars out of five (5). The absence of the last star was due to the ending... It felt rushed to me.

• Read a book that became a movie : Life of Pi
• Read a book of short stories : Slasher Girls and Monster Boys

, and I need to finish up Abhorsenfrom last year (a book with magic) Finished! I was pretty sure I had read this book before, but the ending still came as somewhat of a surprise to me so I'm wondering if I ever finished. I really liked this book and I'm excited to read the next in the series, but I've taken a break from it for a bit to read other things. The library book is sitting on my nightstand calling to me, though.
and follow it up with the sequel "Clariel", which is a book by an author I love that I've never read before!
I'm also waiting to get Adulthood Rites by Octavia Butler through interlibrary loan which is a book written by a woman! I just got this from the library and started yesterday.
I also finished All the Single Ladies: Unmarried Women and the Rise of an Independent Nation which was an awesome, awesome read and I recommend it to any feminists or women looking to carve their own path in life. It was an awesome follow-up to "The Ethical Slut". Also 5 stars
And I already reread The Raven Boys in like one sitting and it was magical, as always.
I also finished Angela's Ashes because it's been sitting on my tbr list for literally years and I'm so proud of myself for getting through it, I even ended up liking it a lot! 4 stars!

-Read a book with more than 500 pages - Wayfarer x done! OMG this was so good and I loved it so much. I'm so sorry that it ended and can honestly read another whole series about these characters. I gave it a 5/5
-Read a book by a female author - Frostbite x done! I gave it a 4/5 and am definitely going to continue the series.
-Read A book you previously abandoned - Six of Crows

• Read a book with more than 500 pages
Empire of Storms (yess might be a little late haha)
• Read a classic
Adventures of Sherlock Holmes (only because Benedict Cumberbatch is <3)

Illuminae - Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff
The Black Gryphon - Mercedes Lackey

The Illuminae series has become my absolute favorite series! What started with Kady and Ezra continues with Hanna and Nik, the story being just as good, possibly better! Kaufman and Kristoff draw readers in with a new BeiTech-caused disaster and throws them through the many walls of emotion... The plot twists!
The design of the book is amazing. I love the document-style layout and overall unique page layout. Illuminae and Gemina are the prettiest books I have read. That on its own adds two (2) stars to my rating!
Honestly, I cannot gush enough about this book (and series)! If you love yourself, you will read this series and lose yourself in the adventures of the young heroes in the Illuminae series.
I gave this novel five (5) stars out of five (5).

Read a classic:
To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee (Which I read a long time ago and remember nothing about and got as a Christmas present this year)
Read a book you know nothing about:
Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo (I reblog tons of beautiful edits and decided it's time to see what all the fuss is about)
Super excited!! Happy New Year everyone!

-
-
-A book I previously read:
I finished Chamber of Secrets! 8/5 still good dogs + Ginny.
I added a book because it's finally available at the library!
-
And with that my reading challenge is finished!

Snow Crash by Neal Stephenson
I'm reading this right now, and let me tell you. There's so much stuff going on, and I'm so intimidated.
Read a non-fiction book
Body Counts: A Memoir of Politics, Sex, AIDS, and Survival by Sean Strub
Read a mystery or thriller
The Dante Club by Matthew Pearle

I gave it 3 out of 5 stars. Unfortunately, nothing about the book really stood out to me, positively or negatively.
I liked all of the characters just fine. They were all well-rounded and interesting, but for some reason I didn't really get emotionally invested in their stories. Considering that the book was inspired by the murder of Grace Brown, I would have expected the murder to play a larger role, but in my opinion it could almost have been left out entirely. While the first half of the book felt really slow to me (at times I was even a little bored) the ending felt a little rushed.
All in all, I did like the book, but not even close to as much as I loved These Shallow Graves last year.
i'm doing read a biography - eleanor roosevelt by blanche wiesen cook
and read a book recommended by a friend - the red tent
and read a book recommended by a friend - the red tent

I'm planning on reading:
1) a classic --> "Wuthering Heights" by Emily Brontë
2) a collection of short stories --> either "Self-Help" by Lorrie Moore or "Light Box" by K.J. Orr
Coincidentally, these are all 3) books by female authors.
Might do more if I have the time, but January's always a busy month!

Read a book by a female author: the above stories work for this too, but I'm hoping to finish The Darkest Minds trilogy, the Shatter Me series, The Lunar Chronicles, The Grisha Trilogy, and Crooked Kingdom
I choose to do
Read a book with more than 500 pages: The Crimson Petal and the White by Michael Faber (901 pages)
Read a book of short stories: Nine Stories by JD Salinger
Read a book with magic: A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J Mass
Read a book based off a fairy tale: Confessions of An Ugly Stepsister by Gregory Maguire
Read a book that a friend recommends: Water for Elephants

And I'm choosing
- Read a book that you know nothing about: AuserLesen (a book I got from by granddad for Christmas)
- Read a mystery or thriller: The Adventure of the Christmas Pudding by Agatha Christie
I might me choosing more later, but those are the two actual first books of the year I'll read.

•Read a book published in 2016- Girls in the Moon
•Read a mystery or thriller- The Apartment
•Read a book that you know nothing about- Night Circus
•Read A book you previously abandoned- A Game of Thrones

Read a book with magic:
I have never (shockingly) read any of the Harry Potter books (as an 18 year old who loves reading you would think I have read this series), so as a book that includes magic I am going to try and read as much as I can of the Harry Potter series this month.
Read a book of poetry:
I have been dying to read Milk and Honey by Rupi Kaur so I would really like to read that this month (if I can find a copy)

-Read a non fiction book
"The Great War "by Peter Hart
- Read a book from a author you love that you haven't read yet
"M Train" by Patti Smith
-Read a book based on a true story
"Der Thronfolger" by Ludwig Winder
-Read a book based entirely on its cover
"H is for Hawk" by Helen MacDonald
-Read a classic
"The Buddenbrooks" by Thomas Mann
-Read a book of poetry
"Goodbye to All That" by Robert Graves
-Read a biography
"Kronprinz Rudolf" Brigitte Hamann
-Read a historical fiction
"Arminius" by Sebastian Fleming
-Read a book you previously abandoned
"Augustus" by John Williams

I'm happy I chose to start my year with an old favorite. It supplied a relaxing, romantic feel to the beginning of the year. And classy:)
I watched the most Joe Wright film adaptation after I finished. I can never shake how different Mr Bennet is in the book vs the film. Donald Sutherland is so much more dignified than the character in the books. In the book, Mr Bennet seems much more like a bitter old man (at least to me). Not nearly as nice and grandfatherly as Donald Sutherland.
