SOLVED. Book about a special necklace and avalanche. [s]

I read this book probably a decade ago but for some reason this scene has stuck with me, its really fuzzy but from what I can recall, which hasn't helped me at all in googling, is that the main character, a girl, has a special necklace .. something about golden flecks in it ? I had a necklace similar, like a type of rock or gem and I always imagined it was that necklace when I was younger but it had some sort of power, like bringing her somewhere else mentally or showing her the future/past. At some point she ends up in an avalanche and while shes stuck in the snow the necklace I think transports her mentally somewhere or shows her the past ... it helps in her rescue from the guy she was with. I cant remember if she was running from bad guys or what but shes with a guy shes friends with and they are walking along the mountain when the avalanche happens . Sorry I cant give more, I've been trying to find this book for years. Any help would be appreciated.

That sounds a little like Princess Academy by Shannon Hale. MC is from the mountains and is able to project a magic ability through the kind of stone that comes from there. It's not exactly the same though.

I would have read it early 2000 but I believe the book was set in 90s or earlier ... no clue about the cover or characters... I will try to remember more
