I've actually got a task in my calendar to reserve this at library for December - I am having two weeks off work over Christmas/New Year and hubby won't be so I will have plenty of time to read a doorstopper.

I loved all the Harry Potter books!❤️❤️❤️❤️
I was traveling a lot for work in the late 90s - early 00s when they all came out. Just about eveyone on the plane would be reading one or the other of them! (Bear in mind this was before smart phones & tablets!)

I'm glad I had read years 1 & 2 before they went "viral" !
After that, I read years 3 & 4 as soon as they came out! Then life got in the way, as usual, and I haven't ever read past that. Mind you I snapped up the brand new published books as soon as they came out though! In fact, back then you could put your name on a list to reserve a copy hot off the presses! I read them so long ago that it's almost brand new! I think I'm enjoying them even more now as I wasn't well back then with my TBI.

message 770: by Kathryn (new)

Kathryn | 3569 comments I have been very slack at updating this thread (well, all my challenges, really!), but I'm up to 22/26 - https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

I'm making a prediction that K (people kissing on the cover) will either be the last criteria I complete for this or will remain unfinished! None of the books on my TBR have anyone kissing - unless the library has different editions to what's on my GR TBR shelf (which is entirely possible but I'm not checking all of them out!), and I'm not going to read a book that I don't want to read simply to meet a challenge criteria. Having said that, I was having a browse at Big W the other day, and The Paris Wedding by Charlotte Nash appealed to me. I suppose the people on the front cover ARE actually kissing...? I think if I read this, it would be close enough for me!

message 772: by Jacm (new)

Jacm | 267 comments Managed to finish 2 off my list while on holidays the last 2 weeks.

N- Neglected to read = Utopia by Thomas More. A classic that I have wanted to read for years. It took me about 6 months to finally get through it as I was mostly reading short chunks on my lunch break & had a couple of breaks from it along the way. Hard to give it a rating as it's such a classic for a reason -so much film & literature is based off More's ideas from 500 years ago. I ended up giving it 4 ★s for the simple fact that it forced me to think about what makes a 'good' society work well for all it's people.

F- Characters fight & make up = Carry On by Rainbow Rowell. The friend I was travelling with pointed out that this was a real palate cleanser after finishing Utopia & she was spot on. A fun take on the 'chosen one' trope in the fantasy genre I love so much. Rowell played the line of tongue in cheek/predictability of the genre while still making the world she created make sense & the reader love her characters. 3 ★

Laura Tenfingers I just finished my 19th: Horror - Jaws by Peter Benchley ★★★☆☆

The movie was way scarier than the book. I'm not sure the book is well classified under horror. And the movie pretty much ruined the book for me but it was still alright and a quick read anyway.

R- Rating >4: Beauty in Thorns by Kate Forsyth AA ★★★★☆

Almost quit half way through but it got better. Overall I think it was good, but it was almost not. It would probably be more enjoyable for a lover of art history and/or Pre-rafaelite artists.
