2017 - 01 - Bucket List. What will you read?

A big thanks to CassieV for being our January 2017 shelf picker. Her pick for the month is Bucket List. I am looking forward to seeing what everyone chooses.

With that in mind....Do y'all have any books that you would put on a bucket list?

I love thinking about a bucket list of books for me. It would have to include a number of books that my sister has lent and/or gifted me. She says that if she gives me a book, I will be sure not to read it, which isn't entirely true, but there have been a number of them that have languished on my bookshelves with the caption "I'll get to these later."

I am happy to see, though, that the list in question has a book on it that I have already slated to read in January. The Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood has been on my list for quite a while, and a friend and I decided to buddy read it in January. Plus it fits in a challenge that I am doing.

A Tale of Two Cities has also been on my LOST list forever.....and is still on the list for 2017, I think. It is on the Bucket List, but I'm not sure that I want to start out the year reading such a massive book. I know I wouldn't finish it in January anyway, but I might go ahead and start it.

I saw David Copperfield and Crime and Punishment on this shelf. These are the 2 big classics I tackled this past half year and both earned 5 stars. I love them so much & would recommend them (even though David Copperfield is a whooping 900+ pages).

For myself, I think I'd be reading Walden and maybe A Thousand Pieces of You. Maybe also listening to Does My Head Look Big in This?

I will be reading The Diary of a Young Girl. It fits in a few other challenges.

The Maltese Falcon - Finished 12/31/16
The Prince and the Pauper
The Portrait of a Lady - Finished 1/3/17 (69% read in December)

I expect to get at least one of these read in January.

Some books that are on my TBR:

War and Peace (although I'm not sure I will be able to read it by the end of January... but it might be a group read in another group, so if it wins the poll I might give it a try)
Moby-Dick; or, The Whale
The Brothers Karamazov (again, a very long book...)
Paradise Lost
Madame Bovary
The Age of Innocence (though I have this on audio, so I won't probably choose this one, as I found out I don't really like audiobooks)
Leaves of Grass

I'm still unsure which one I'll choose...

Wow... I have read every book on the first page! It's the first time I've ever seen that with a Goodreads list. Must be a good shelf! ;)

I will probably go for Moll Flanders
and/or A Monster Calls (also on shelf 1 for December...)

I'm listening to the Handmaiden's Tale right now - enjoying it much more than I expected and excited to see the Hulu mini-series of it next year

I'm going to read Fahrenheit 451 for this challenge. Been meaning to get to it for a while.

I am participating in "Pick-a-Shelf" for the first time, and I am planning to read A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court from the Bucket-List shelf (shows up on page 7 of "Popular Bucket List Books") in January 2017.

Also, I will aim to start reading Anna Karenina in January, but probably won't finish within the month, hence the above for my actual pick for Jan-2017.

I'm going to read The Girl on the Train which is perfect because it works for this AND bookopoly. I'm going to try to see if I can get it work for scattershelves!

I'm just finishing AK Sue. It's a great book.

I have The Grapes of Wrath slated for Scattershelves for Jan. so I'm hoping I can get that done...it's one I've been trying to work myself up to read, but it keeps getting pushed off. I know the premise because I've seen the play many times, but just would like to say I've read it in its entirety.

Charity, it was the same for me with this book. It had been on my bookshelf for a very long time when I finally decided to pick it up. And in the end I was so happy I did give it a chance! It's such a great book, a sound 5 stars for me. I hope you like it, too.

I'm going to read Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brontë, listed on the first page of the Bucket List shelf. A great classic I've been meaning to read for years. :)

I am going to start Les Misérables in January. I started it this year and just didn't get very far though I was enjoying it :). I plan to conquer it in 2017, so best to get on it in January!

I also plan on reading The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes.

My pocket edition of Jane Eyre is to blame for my high hopes, it makes it look so approachable :)

Somehow, I've never read The Great Gatsby, so I think January is as good a time as any! (Going to work it into January's Scattershelves challenge, too! :P )

OMG these two books are amongst my most hated would love to know what you think. Sometimes as a reader you miss something so would love to hear a different point of view

i have read a lot of this list too, some on the first page like [book:David Copperfield|58696] have been on my TBR a while just can't face the length

There's a lot on that list I've read and a lot I want to read!

I have no idea if I'll get it read or not in January, but the one on my TBR that most appeals right now is Middlemarch

I've just started The Count of Monte Cristo. Whether I actually finish it this month is debatable though, it's a BIG book!

Aargh! I can no longer remember which book it was that had the right shelf that was in my tbr! However, I am listening to Jane Eyre, so will be all set, after all.

I'm reading Slaughterhouse-Five by Kurt Vonnegut which has definitely been on my Bucket List for a while and Midnight's Children by Salman Rushdie.
