Thomas Everson (authorthomaseverson) | 110 comments Welcome Alex! I like the thought behind the anonymity that the androgynous name provides, though it sucks our society still judges books/genres by the sex of the writer (Hopefully that personal opinion doesn't fall into the politics category. If it does I'll remove it.).

Diablo 3 is a fun game. I spent a fair amount of time on that too!

Welcome Alex. I have to say, I love the doggy on the picture.
May I ask how you came up with your pen name. You explained Alex, and it's true. Can't tell the sex just by the name. But I'm curious for the R. Carver part. :)

Ooohh. Well played! "An ARC from ARC."

Ah Cool! Mighty clever I'd say!

message 7: by Christina (new)

Christina McMullen (cmcmullen) Welcome aboard, Alex. I'm afraid all your name and profile picture has managed to do is make me wonder how that little dog managed to reach the keyboard to write books. ;P

message 8: by Christina (new)

Christina McMullen (cmcmullen) Check your browser history for an over abundance of visits to Pet finder. She might me looking to meet singles in her area. ;)

I like knowing the thought behind your name. It also makes me think "hmm, maybe I should have had a pen name instead of using my real name - but since I croscconnect between my writing and my art, it's probably best that I used my real name."

Annie Arcane (anniearcane) | 606 comments Yo, Alex!

*fist bump*

Methinks your smart comment placeholder is pretty darn smart ^_~

That's so funny Alex I do the same thing! My kids are seven years apart and their names have all the same letters in them! They all begged me not to do it but I'm evil and I did it anyway! LOL!

message 13: by Ember-Raine (new)

Ember-Raine Winters (ember-raine_winters) | 494 comments I know right?!?! But, in all fairness I wasn't torturing them with their names it was everyone who ever has to yell at them or say both their names in a row. People get confused and call them by the wrong names! HAHAHA!! Its hilarious and they hate me for it! *grins evily*

Amanda Siegrist (amandasiegrist) | 311 comments Hey, Alex! Good luck with your kindle countdown. ENT is amazing. I've had great success and I know a few other people have as well.

Thanks, I'm trying to be as thorough and honest as I can be with each review, on the thinking that it will ultimately help me with all aspects of my writing."

How would it help your writing?

message 17: by Alexis (last edited Dec 17, 2016 03:24PM) (new)

Alexis | 256 comments Let me go see. Is this a thriller, a mystery, a romance (hehe)?
ETA: couple of typos that are a bit distracting.

message 18: by Alexis (last edited Dec 19, 2016 01:33PM) (new)

Alexis | 256 comments Why Liam Hemsworth? :p

I found the short story to be pretty good, but sometimes it got to be too descriptive with a bit of unnecessary info being given. For example: The stranger was obviously a police officer, there could be no doubt about that since he was wearing a uniform, as was the man with him. The dialogue was fun though and the action scenes were very well-done, as usual. Plot has been done before of course, but its a short story so no need for me to nitpick. I can see it turning into a fun, free short story.

I tried googling for the answer but nada.

Alexis | 256 comments Ah, thank you!

message 21: by Nat (new)

Nat Kennedy | 614 comments Hi Alex. Nat Kennedy is also a pen name. I like to be a bit anonymous as well. I plan on doing a countdown sale once the year is new. Right now I'm focusing on EDITS!! Fun time.

message 22: by Nat (new)

Nat Kennedy | 614 comments I've been working on this book since late September, took November off for NaNoWriMo and it's got to be in a decent spot by next month to send to my betas. I'm afraid I'm sucking a bit. I keep telling myself I'll get ahead over Christmas break from work... I keep telling myself that!

I like fine tuning editing, but these major re-writes are just frustrating me right now.

Good luck to you!

message 23: by Nat (new)

Nat Kennedy | 614 comments Lock yourself in a room, no windows. Maybe the basement. Give yourself word spring blocks. Like, you'll write for the next half hour, no distractions... and lengthen the time. Who knows, it might work!

Thanks! I'm chugging along.

message 24: by Alexis (new)

Alexis | 256 comments It's a dollar on my Amazon?

message 25: by Aislinn (new)

Aislinn Alex wrote: "Since Amazon seems to be a bit screwy on my new release being price-matched to free (it's clearly free for some people since I'm getting free downloads)..."

It's free on the US Amazon for me. Generally, for me, the US Amazon is the first to go free, and then the other Amazons follow after. I don't know why they do this - it's very incovenient! - but there you go.

message 26: by Nat (new)

Nat Kennedy | 614 comments Alex wrote: "Good thinking, I might have to try that, though I'll need to get the builders in first, we don't have a basement yet.

Haha, yeah, I don't have a basement either. I have my bedroom, with a desk. It sometimes works!

Good luck with your new book!

message 27: by Nat (new)

Nat Kennedy | 614 comments I know what you mean. Sure, there are moments when I'm distracted, stuck, busy, but I always feel GOOD when I write, when I complete something, when I look back at my finished project.

My laptop also travels. Sometimes I'm at the dining table and my boyfriend is on the couch. When he turns the TV on, though, I escape to the bedroom. Especially if I'm on a roll!

message 28: by Jane (new)

Jane Jago | 1015 comments Alex,

I think that most indies write for the love of it. I know I do.

I write on an iPad. And I can do it anywhere EXCEPT where it's quiet....

message 29: by Anna (new)

Anna Faversham (annafaversham) | 71 comments You need noise? Aaargh. I need silence. If the telephone rings it throws me right out of the 19th century and I stare at the thing (or the mobile [cell phone}) and wonder whether to answer it. Of course, I do, and then I have to make a cup of tea to soothe me back to 1823.

message 30: by Christina (new)

Christina McMullen (cmcmullen) Hey Alex. You can actually cancel your giveaway, but that means anyone who already entered is not going to win unless they enter your new contest. But if it's only going to the 12th, I wouldn't worry.
(By the way, you lost your last name on your thread title.)

message 35: by Aislinn (new)

Aislinn I'm not in the US, but I did solve it!

What a fun idea! I like puzzles. :)

(Though, is it just me, or is the last letter wrong? Should be 'I'?)

message 36: by Alexis (new)

Alexis | 256 comments When will you give us the solution? :D

Take a deep breath. Swear. Put a packet of frozen peas on your ankle.

And then carry on.

Oh I hate when something like that happens. Or when you work on a manuscript to realize it's an older copy you had for safekeep so you have to restart over with the right one.

Good luck with both the book and the ankle. Take it this way. At least, once you'll sit down to work on the book you won't feel like walking around to do something else. :P

My fear is that one day I will take an old version and save it on top of my new version instead of the other way around. (That's why I try to keep many copies in many different folders, HD, cloud etc but the more you have saved the more chances you have to make that darn mistake lol

And yeah.. coffee is good...but it will keep you awake so careful!

message 47: by Amie (new)

Amie O'Brien | 189 comments Yeah....that's a bad day. Be careful with those ankles. If you are anything like my hubby, once you sprain them good, they are an easy target for re-spraining. I call my hubby "Fawn Legs" because his ankles are the equivalent strength of a baby deer!!!

My day was no good either. I had to make yet another emergency cross country trip Monday night because my grandma had died and we had her funeral this morning. Three family deaths in 2 & 1/2 months, my mom being the first. Still believing 2017 will be a good year though. Keep hope alive. Always!

message 48: by Groovy (new)

Groovy Lee Boy, am I late to this thread! I'm so sorry to hear about your ankle, Alex, and your troubles with your manuscript.

I know it's already been said, but take a deep breath, two or three if you have to, and know that we're behind you. I know what it's like to have your computer not save your work. You want to cry, but you accept that it happened, then start where you left off:)

Keep your ankle elevated!

Ah, Alex, I'm sorry. Nothing quite as frustrating as a Word bomb and not even being able to walk to the teapot when needed. Good luck, and look after yourself.
