As for the vamp concept, I dig it. I love twists on the vamp trope, especially since I threw my hat in that ring with one of my projects. Yours sounds particularly interesting, the potential with your mad-scientist research into lengthening the human lifespan could be great writing fuel! Can't wait to read what you come up with.

Will be praying for you and your mom, Alex.
Like the new story idea as well.

Glad to hear they stabilized her with meds. The not knowing is hard. I hope that when they find out, it will ease your worries.
To go back on the vampire stuff, I do love reading all the different lore authors create. I have nothing against Dracula of course, but why use the same story line when you can make a different one? :)

I am lucky. Most vampire stories I have read lately were innovative and not the common trend. Although one of my favorite vampire TV show wasn't so different from the lore aside that they could walk in the sun with sunglasses and covered their skin as much as they could. They could not stay there too long because it was destroying them slowly (no bursting into fire). There was one show that the MC was stuck in the sun and had to fight with his inner self survival instinct not to kill the kid he was protecting. Have you ever watched Moonlight with Alex O'Loughlin?

Zombies could go on hibernation mode and be revived by the smell of food. (I think I've read something about that though.)

Moonlight was only one season (2007).
I've read a few Anita Blake but please don't crucify me if I say I stopped after two. it wasn't really my thing. (And to think I had bought like ten of them. :/ Good thing I got them at Half Price Store!)
I think they do that to give them a weakness. As for the coffins...nowadays, you'd think they'd find super duper looking coffins at least. :P BTW in Moonlight they sleep in freezers not coffins. :P

But not one who's gonna be damp
A hero sublime
Who is nice all the time
Although from the bloodsucker camp
Sorry about your mom. Keeping you guys in my happy thought file.
It does suck when loved ones are ill. My wife is dealing with so many issues... but it actually helps my writing. I feel so out of control and helpless when it comes to what's happening to her, so I like to get lost in a world where I can have total control.

I currently have a cheap notepad but I'm after something more organised so I don't lose track of the ideas ..."
I like your thinking...

Glad your mum seems to be stable.
I'm just editing my own vampires.
Mine aren't the usual kind. And there's witches. Actually, there's more magickal beings than you can shake a wand at ;-) Including a dragon.
Good luck with yours. Let me know if you need a beta for it xx

One thing I like about the traditional vampire is the angst and moral dilemma of killing to survive. Sure, we do it, when we kill animals, but that doesn't phase most people. Not like killing another person.
Will your vamps have any moral dilemma in their life cycle?
I randomly had a new idea about satanists in a small town that is partial memoir... so I understand it when an idea bites your butt.

I always hated the ideas that some creature type was automatically evil. So, glad you're not building them that way.
Well, it would be set in the late 80s, when the event actually happened. (these Satanists are actually a personal experience of mine, when I was a wee lass, but I plan to fantisize it.) I hadn't thought about modernizing it up 30 years.

I don't think cell phones would work for this story. Cell phones change so much.

I can actually help with that somewhat! At least for me, I've noticed the best way is to count calories and be mindful of your carbohydrate/fat/protein ratio. I will strongly advise not to jump immediately to the lowest calorie intake for a day because even though you'll lose and lose a lot, you're way more likely to gain it back (personal experience). I use the My Fitness Pal app and keep track of most everything. I admit it's a pain to be completely diligent, but it does help.
Oh and really sorry for your mom. I hope what's wrong with her and that she gets well soon. *hugs*
