Alex R Carver - has it really been 7 months since I updated this thread?
Congrats Alex! That's awesome! Depending on your genre you might not need it but it doesn't hurt to have it there!

Nice job! *sends a great big hug* Best of luck with your work!
Hey, every little bit counts. I'm watching my preorders like a hawk as they (slowly) tick up. I get it. :)
Haha that should be the Indie Author Blessing. :pIt's not out of the question - I got 18 preorders for Christmas Tango with no promotion whatsoever. You should definitely put a link to buy Written in Blood in Where There's a Will, if you haven't already.

Yeahhh, especially now that it's free!
Haha, yeah. It takes Amazon a few hours to upload the new version, so get it in as soon as possible! Good luck!
Well I was going to grab a copy, but I'm going to wait until later in the evening to see if I get an updated copy. I'll let you know!
I just followed you on WP :) The site looks great! Congrats on all the progress, especially in the face of fighting some considerable obstacles!!AND I just preordered. Love the description!
Oh Alex! I'm so sorry. That is quite a beating. So glad to hear those inspirational words that you are once again climbing the writer's mountain. One of my favorite speakers to listen to is Les Brown. He has this mantra that it's okay if you fall down so long as you land on your back. In his words, "If you can look up, you can get up!"I, too, am having Amazon woes. There seems to be some kind of weird metadata challenges between my distributor uploading and Amazon accepting said data. My book disappeared last month during our SIA promo and came back after a few days, but just came down again on Monday and I'm still waiting. I feel that same nervousness that reviews will get lost in the process. My heart goes out to you. There is nothing like feeling someone has ripped the rug out from under your feet. Keep that resolute heart of yours and keep fighting. As my mother used to say (and Kelly Clarkson), "What doesn't kill you makes you stronger."
Prayers coming your way! <3
Hi Alex. I'm just liking your thread and sharing this crazy journey. I'm at the point where one sale is exciting. I'm loving meeting other authors here.
Always celebrate every sale. :-)And I'm sorry to hear life is giving you a beat down, Alex, but I'm glad you're not letting it. Stay strong.

Maybe that's my problem ... I do not love roller coasters, in life or at the amusement park. Well, I enjoy the less scary ones. I don't want to get blase, but would love to eat regularly. :)
Yes a sale is a sale! And I concur with Christina. Don't let life's obstacles slow you down even if sometimes you feel like telling someone up there that you're not his only toy and he should find something else to bug or play around with. Enough is enough!
You know the saying that you only get what you are strong enough to handle, well I think the person who said that never had a problem in their life! Lol
Keep fighting!

Oh, Alex, Huge Consoling Hugs for you. I'm not an author yet, but I can tell you I'm fighting my own sh... shoe storm to get there. I was plugging along at a good pace last year and then... shoes in the form of health and other issues put a hold on everything. My physical health is better right now so time to take advantage and catch up! I still have shoes flying at me, but not as many, and I actually snagged a comfy pair of slippers! I'm doing my best and taking happiness where I can find it. Me and my shoulder are always here for you Alex! Hugs!!
Awe, thanks Alex! You are strong and have a great sense of humor. And doggie hugs are great! Hug that little adorable little pooch of yours! One for me, too! Sending comforting vibes. Hugs!!

Eye For an Eye - love the story! Interesting, I want to keep reading. Should I tell you a couple edity things I noticed or not?
the little stuff I noticed was "it siren" and the license "place" and saying the women were "dead and not happy about it." I guessed that you weren't up to proofreading yet, but in my own writing, some of those tiny errors got past *everyone* - so many times - and it was so aggravating! I plan to print my next book on paper in several different fonts and formats (maybe on computer as well) to see if different visual presentations make errors pop out at various readers. So I'm into see-something-say-something at any stage :)
Loved reading the story ... want to read the other one, too.
Alex wrote: "Thanks for those, I'll be sure to make note so I don't miss them when I start editing.I don't print off because of the hassle factor, but I do change fonts, and colours to see if I notice differen..."
I do find that I notice things on paper that I don't notice on the screen. But it is a PITA, and expensive ... I have some beta readers right now who want it on paper ... grph ... I need to go shopping for another ink cartridge.
Thank you for sharing your first experience with beta readers, Alex :) glad you got some positive and constructive feedback, too!
I sent off a novel to my betas last month and they ripped it apart! Which is good. I'm letting it sit while I work on another novel. I find it very useful to get outside eyes on my stuff because I know in my gut something is weak, but can't see it anymore, and they will give me their thoughts and I can then find solutions... more often than not. But, I must say, I'm going to have to steel myself a bit before I tackle that novel. But it's next on the list!
I hope all the info you got boosts your story.
I'm okay with the heavy handed betaing with these people because they are all good writers and I respect them. And I've a thick skin. They don't tell me things that aren't good to know.It is a lot of work, and that is daunting. That's more of my exhaustion... looking at all that work.
I need to remind myself that it's one step at a time. Work on it a little every day and I'll get there.
Yes, you want it to be the best it can be... Here's to Revision!
Alex wrote: "That's what put me off in the past, not having people I trusted to tell me honestly what was wrong, if anything, and to do so in a way that was constructive. I have that now which is good."I've found it hard to get good beta feedback ... the best has come from other writers. Others just say, "yeah it's good, I liked it!" I guess non-writers just don't know what we need to know.
I am glad you received good feedback and some constructive recommendations. I hope that you get equally helpful information from the other betas. It can be hard to get feedback that requires a lot of changes, but I always feel better when the changes are complete because I can tell my book is much stronger. Good luck with your other two betas when they get back to you!
That is fantastic! I hope you'll get all the attention you deserve! Good luck! May many sales follow up! :)
That's awesome, Alex! And love the feedback you got from your beta reader. I always thought hijacking someone's day was the greatest compliment! ;)
Yeah, Alex, I forgot to mention, that's a hell of a compliment from a beta... what you want to hear!! So great!! Hugs!!
Alex wrote: "Today is something of a good day, I've heard back from my 2nd and 3rd betas, so that's all of them now.The 2nd beta reported no issues after reading the first 7 chapters while the 3rd send me this..."
Good thing my hubby isn't on Goodreads, else he'd know why my trip to the grocery took an hour longer than it should! ;)
That's such a great compliment when your writing messes up the reader's plans! LOLI feel evil, but I love when that happens!
Congrats, Alex!

Enjoy that sunshine! We seem to have so little of it here, lately.
