Massimo Marino | 8 comments Dear readers,

I'm a scientist who envisions hard science fiction. I’ve been in fundamental research since 1988, at CERN first, the European Laboratory for Particle Physics, then in the US, at the Lawrence Berkeley Nat’l Laboratory from 1997.

In 2005 I moved to the private sector to work with Apple Inc., and then with the World Economic Forum. I’m an entrepreneur and co-founder of a Big Data Analytics service company, http://squaresonblue.com, incorporated in France.

I wrote a sci-fi post-apocalyptic trilogy that has received numerous accolades from readers and editorial reviews, but reviews are never enough. Although I've collected over 400 in combined Amazon and goodreads, and close to 4.0 average in both, I'd like to receive more thoughtful feedback from readers (and other authors, too. Why not.)

In Vol.1, Daimones — a full novel at 90,000 words — we are presented with a silent but deadly invasion that leaves the few survivors befuddled, wary, and broken. Dan and his family awake one day in a world where everyone is dead but no evidence points to a cause. Initial searches for survivors yield nothing and, in panic, the family turns their house into a stronghold.

Eventually, they find Laura, a young survivor who manages to win their hearts... and leads Dan to temptation, and challenges the notions of right and wrong, or ethical and moral, in their new reality.

Laura reveals her panicking encounter with strange entities which Dan recognizes in his childhood hallucinations. He forces himself to find and confront them: An older power controls the fate of men. A few selected will face the ultimate quest: a painful genetic transformation and work toward the rebirth of a new human race, or oblivion and death in isolation.

Daimones has been author-published in September 2012 - it has sold over 5000 copies, has 129 reviews on Amazon and 217 on Goodreads, with 86% readers appreciation.

In Vol.2, Once Humans — 74,000 words — mankind is undergoing rebirth, the new arrivals closely watched by the Selected: the transgenic beings created by the Moîrai. The new communities thrive with the aliens' support and peace and security reign on Eridu, as the planet Earth is known by the Moîrai and in the galaxy. But peace and security of the cradle are suddenly shattered by acts of sabotage set to disrupt the fragile balance of the fledgling communities.

The story reveals a cosmic conspiracy full of betrayal and fear, being hatched with the hope of pushing the world perilously close to the brink of self-destruction.

“Once Humans” has been author-published in August 2013 and has sold in excess of 1500 copies

In Vol.3, The Rise of the Phoenix, the seeds for a galactic upheaval, space wars againts aliens, and galactic empires struggles, have grown roots.
The last humans--the 'spared ones'--have all died but Hope, the second of Dan Amenta's human daughters, though she's living her last days, too.

Dan has seen Earth become a different world as the new civilization rises.
A new neurological drug, Fusion, is heavily produced on Eridu and has created the path for a rapid evolution of the new humans, richness and good fortune.

The past events—Vol.1 and Vol.2--revealed the crucial role the humans have in the galaxy organization...and made them aware of their strength.
Once Hope leaves this life, a moral obligation suddenly is no more. Things can change, and they must. A new order and a new course will put in place the events the Moîrai have sewn and destined to rip apart the foundations of the galaxy.

I always thought 'literary' can march together with Science Fiction. I author-published: worked with proofreaders, graphic professionals for the cover, and professional editing services to provide readers with the best possible story, on par with traditionally published work (but not with some of the 'lazy' products of the latest years).

I've written since I was able to hold a pencil in my toddler's hands, and then for my professional career as a scientist at CERN and the Lawrence Berkeley Lab.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Thank you, Margaret. They sell every day and the majority of readers are very happy. I just received online this message: "I loved Daimones! Now I must read more! Thank You!"

You write for these moments as well.

Thank YOU to all my readers. Without them nothing could be possible.

PS
And my beta-readers group, my proofreader, and my editor.

I agree that we write in the hope of gaining approval. For me at least, nothing beats the joy of a complimentary review from a stranger. :)

Congratulations again. :)
