Jean | 1658 comments Good job Leslie! Now, we need Grey's pick!

message 3: by Leslie (new)

Leslie | 2430 comments Thanks Jean! It's no biggie, I love a challenge that will help my TBR ;)

Please everyone let me know if I have anything incorrect and post any questions. I don't mind trying to track down the answers.

I'm going to create a shelf "Bev's 2017 TBR Challenge" to help keep track of pics.

Thanks Bev for suggesting this. :)

message 4: by Ela (new)

Ela | 4291 comments If you need a filler count me in.

Leslie | 2430 comments Ela wrote: "If you need a filler count me in."

Hi Ela! Bev was the creator of this fun challenge. She just chose the first 12 people that responded as the "theme pickers" but EVERYONE can participate. :)

message 6: by Jan (new)

Jan (jan130) I'm starting to get excited about some of these books from my tbr that have somehow gotten lost or forgotten. (or dnf'ed). Now I'm remembering why I bought them in the first place :) I've made up a plan, but things may change as the year rolls on......
J Exaltation Of Larks
F Seveneves
M Thoughtless
A The Hating Game
M The Man I Love
J High Strung
J Station Eleven
A Risk (Dannika Dark)
S Vincent (Made Men)
O Eidolon
N Sing My Name
D The Whites by Harry Brandt

message 7: by [deleted user] (new)

Oh, wow that's my name. I really just saw these tbr challenges and stole it. Then you all jumped in. So, really a group thing.
LeslieM, thank you for keeping track for us, it is awesome.
Ela, read with us, please! Just choose books from your tbr that match the themes.

message 8: by Jean (new)

Jean | 1658 comments I'm still compiling my list, but yes this is a great way to uncover those forgotten books we've downloaded so long ago.

message 9: by Ela (new)

Ela | 4291 comments Sounds like a plan!

message 10: by Nay (new)

Nay (4ukcats) I love the idea of everyone posting their tentative lists! I change my mind so often that I'm going to put at least two options for each category on my 'theme challenge' bookshelf, but when I find time, I'm going to compile a list with my top choice for each theme and post it here.

But as a couple of people have already mentioned, I know that although this challenge will help me get 12 old tbr books read, I'll probably end up adding at least 20 new-to-me books to my tbr! lol Oh well--I lurve adding new books!!

message 11: by Grey (new)

Grey | 2385 comments Mod
I can't wait to do this! Its going to be fun!

message 12: by Jan (new)

Jan (jan130) R I like your idea of a couple of options for each category. I'm sure as the year goes on we'll change our minds about what we read when. I've gotten re-interested in some of my tbrs now I'm looking at them again and might not wait for 'their' month before reading them. But who cares ;) we'll be starting to clear out the tbr list so it's all good.

Lisa Aiello (lisaaiello) | 2460 comments Leslie - I love your picks!!

Fabi NEEDS Email Notifications | 872 comments It's a little depressing. I keep seeing everyone's list (not to mention my own tbr) and thinking "why haven't I read that yet?"

Fabi NEEDS Email Notifications | 872 comments We're going to need discussion threads for each month. It would be great to have a top post in each monthly thread with everyone's pick for the month.

message 17: by [deleted user] (new)

Nice list Leslie, especially with the pictures.

Fabi, every time some starts discussing what books they have for each theme, or others throw out suggestions, I remember all these books I have and forgot about.

message 18: by Grey (new)

Grey | 2385 comments Mod
The month the theme chooser chose, they have to write their book review too... right?

Fabi NEEDS Email Notifications | 872 comments I review almost all my books so I definitely will.

message 20: by Leslie (new)

Leslie | 2430 comments Fabi wrote: "It's a little depressing. I keep seeing everyone's list (not to mention my own tbr) and thinking "why haven't I read that yet?""

Hopefully this will spur us into reading more off our TBR. I'm thinking it might go the other way and ADD to it as well.

Leslie | 2430 comments Fabi wrote: "We're going to need discussion threads for each month. It would be great to have a top post in each monthly thread with everyone's pick for the month."

Yes, we definitely need a thread for each month. :)

I think (but am not sure) the only way to have everyone's pick show up on the top of the post is if someone gathers all the info and then types them all in. Right?

message 22: by Leslie (new)

Leslie | 2430 comments Grey wrote: "The month the theme chooser chose, they have to write their book review too... right?"

I don't write reviews (I suck at it) but am happy to discuss each of my picks every month!!

Yes, someone would create the first post and then add/edit to it as each of us chooses our monthly read.

I'm happy to help. But I'm not sure I have the permissions to do so here. January is up.

message 28: by Jan (new)

Jan (jan130) Ooh I'm loving the look of these lists! And I think your ideas for our discussion are all good. Oh yes, Ela. I forgot Night Broken is on my tbr too! I have a hard copy so it didn't pop up when I was checking my kindle. I would like to fit it in somewhere.... *scratches chin thoughtfully* Oh darn it, IDK....

Fabi NEEDS Email Notifications | 872 comments R. wrote: "That's 3 Exaltation of Larks so far for Jan."

Did you mean that you are also reading this one for January? Or were you just making a comment? lol My brain is in overdrive today.

message 30: by Leslie (new)

Leslie | 2430 comments This is so fun, seeing everyone's lists.

Haven't picked my others yet. Ya'll are ON IT. I'm jealous. Can we read the same thing as someone else?

message 32: by Lisa (new)

Lisa Aiello (lisaaiello) | 2460 comments Absolutely you can. The goal is to clear out your tbr, rediscover some buried items, and hopefully not blow our lists up even more than they are!!

message 33: by Grey (new)

Grey | 2385 comments Mod

Jan (jan130) Hey, Grey, welcome to our January BR of Ex of L :)

message 36: by Ela (new)

Ela | 4291 comments Considering I'm getting lip about my color book, can I get a few suggestions?

message 37: by Jan (new)

Jan (jan130) Ela I just had a quick look at your tbr and I saw a book there with a colour name: Deep Blue. I don't know anything about it, tho....... but better than Green Eggs n Ham? BTW you've got an awesome (and intimidating!) tbr! You've got your work cut out to get that list into shape :)

message 38: by Ela (new)

Ela | 4291 comments Fine! I'll consider trading Green Eggs for Deep Blue Eternity by Boyd! I guess I'll be intertwining lots of mindless smut...lol

message 39: by Robin (new)

Robin Hill (robinhill) | 1528 comments So same ole, same ole?

message 40: by Jan (new)

Jan (jan130) The one I saw on your list was by Jules Barnard.

message 41: by Ela (new)

Ela | 4291 comments I think they're both on there but this one had better ratings.

message 42: by Jan (new)

Jan (jan130) Fair enough.

Obviously my brain is too! I saw this earlier and thought it was Robin's (R.) comment. Didn't even notice this was me! lol

I've already read it--I just noticed that 3 other people were going to read it in January. But I think it's even more now!

message 44: by Leslie (new)

Blue eyed Devil was amazing... I read that in real book form a long time ago...

message 46: by Nay (new)

Nay (4ukcats) If anyone's having trouble with the cowboy theme, Melanie Harlow's newest book, After the Fall, has a cowboy as the hero.

And if you like uber alpha heroes and full-on erotica, I HIGHLY recommend Lorelei James' Rough Riders series. L. James can flat out write some super HOT sex scenes!

She also has the Black Top Cowboys series, which I haven't enjoyed quite as much, but since I still have several of those to read, I think I'm using one for my cowboy book.

message 47: by Ela (new)

Ela | 4291 comments Why Leslie, you really MUST NOT want my choice to stay as Green Eggs??? LMAO

Thank you for taking the time to find all these, Red looks good AND Black Hills! At this rate I will be changing my list constantly.

message 48: by Leslie (new)

Leslie | 2430 comments Ela, I actually had bad dream, couldnt
fall back asleep... so at 3:30 this a.m. I was scrolling through your TBR. It kept my mind busy and was perfect task for me. Incidentally, I love Green Eggs & Ham. ;)

message 49: by [deleted user] (new)

Green Eggs and Ham is a classic.
