Winter (winter9) | 4998 comments Updated :) Some of you have gotten pretty far already!

I have a question for you guys. Do you count e-books? It's not a question of whether we allow it or not, we're not that strict and they definitely count. But if you read lots of both do you only count the physical or do you count both? :) I'm trying to decide whether to use kindle books or not for myself.

message 352: by Claire (new)

Claire | 111 comments I count them. If not, I could only read half of the books, because not available in my country. Also, while I like real= physical books, I think reading can be done on an ereader. But just my opinion.

13. At least 5 colours on the cover - Grace in the Maybe: Instructions on Not Knowing Everything About God by Katie Savage - 3.5★

And I'm currently reading my red book - The Great Zoo of China The Great Zoo of China by Matthew Reilly and it's a rip-roaring read so far!

Oh - and I definitely count ebooks!! They're still books that you're reading!

I count physical, e- and audiobooks - sometimes the book, I want to read is only available in one of the formats, so I don't have a choice :-) And my arthritic hands won't always let me hold a big book, so ebooks and audiobooks are very "handy", haha.

I have actually given up on some other groups, because they are so strict, that f.ex. my Danish edition doesn't count towards a challenge if it hasn't got the same cover (only thumbnail covers count - and I am not even sure what that is)...

So HOORRAY for this group !!! :-)

Nik (bleepnik) | 852 comments Winter wrote: "Do you count e-books?"

Absolutely. I read only e-books and I have a real problem with the idea of only physical books being considered "real" books. It's the same (sometimes more, with Audible sycning!) content, right, and it's got a book cover (especially relevant to this particular challenge). It takes just as much time and attention to read it (again, sometimes more, because e-reading software has built-in features like tapping a thing to look up, highlight, or annotate!). So the differences are only that trees weren't chopped down to make the paper and I don't get paper cuts; and, if that's the case, why wouldn't we count them like any other book? =)

We're not very strict :) People have different goals and different opinions, but we all love to read. That's the only thing that matters. I have been in groups where I have read the challenge rules and given up even entering. We do have some rules, but they are only the rules we need to keep it orderly :)

While I appreciate what the author was trying to accomplish with this book, overall, the book felt long and unnecessarily drawn out. It would have benefited from some editing. I did like the fairy tales, and the audiobook narrator did an excellent job with the different accents. Worth reading but with the above caveat. 3.5 stars
