Alongside the group's monthly reads of the award winners, we also have a Monthly Additional Nominee Reads.

Group members will vote on each the awards category nominees (minus the winner of course!) throughout the year to decide which runner up will be the additional group read.

The poll voting is always scheduled so members will have approximately a month's notice before the read is scheduled to start. The schedule and results will be posted below.

Oh! I have Scrappy Little Nobody on Audible too. :) Looking forward to that one.

Idiot Brain looks interesting, but I probably won't get to it. I'll be curious to see what everyone thinks of it though.

message 17: by Kirsten (new)

Kirsten (kmcripn) I probably won't join in on the Humor category. One of these years the nominees will be actual humor and not just books by celebrities.

I may try Idiot Brain, but it really wasn't my choice.

Normally I agree wth you Kirsten, but I love Anna Kendrick and when I see her in interviews / read her tweets etc she always makes me laugh. Hence why I'm looking forward to this one.

The group will be reading in October (for additional reads):

Hillbilly Elegy A Memoir of a Family and Culture in Crisis by J.D. Vance Hillbilly Elegy: A Memoir of a Family and Culture in Crisis

Ink and Bone by Lisa Unger Ink and Bone

They All Saw a Cat by Brendan Wenzel They All Saw a Cat

message 41: by Vicki Willis (new)

Vicki Willis | 1033 comments The Hillbilly book is $15.99 on kindle! Rarely do I see kindle priced THAT high. Am going to see how everyone likes it first.

message 42: by Lynn, Moderator (last edited Sep 03, 2017 09:13AM) (new)

Lynn | 4465 comments Mod
It's not so bad in the UK - £5.74

That's about half the price ..... it's bizzare how it's different prices in different countries. It's the same bloody book, in the same format, why the wild difference in price?

message 43: by Janina (new)

Janina (sylarana) | 692 comments Prices are very weird. The other day, I bought a (fairly new) German kindle book here in the US and it was less than half the price than if I had bought it in Germany.

I'm in the same boat, but luckily my library has tons of kindle copies of the book, so it shouldn't take too long for my hold to come through. I've had this on my to-read list for a while, so I'm interested in reading it this month.

Time to vote for our last additional reads for 2017 - our December reads!

Fantasy: https://www.goodreads.com/poll/show/1...

Note that a LOT of these books are part of a series, so be careful you've read the previous books.

Non-Fiction: https://www.goodreads.com/poll/show/1...

Non-Fiction: Adnan's Story: The Search for Truth and Justice After Serial

Kristie | 6819 comments Mod
Both of the books I wanted came in 2nd!

message 50: by Janina (new)

Janina (sylarana) | 692 comments I'm quite surprised that All the Birds in the Sky came out as the winner (above A Gathering of Shadows) since the reviews are quite mixed and the writing is often criticized. I've had it on my to-read list for a while, but I've been hesitant due to the many low ratings .. I guess if I have the time, the group read might convince me to give it a try.
