Liv (curlyhairbibliophile) Rainbow-- I heard that you may be writing a sequel to Eleanor and Park. Is that true?

message 352: by Annaliese (last edited Jun 24, 2014 06:02PM) (new)

Annaliese (goodreadscomannaliese_marie) Hi Rainbow! I love your books so much :)

I have two questions for you:

How did you get the idea for Fangirl?

Also, what do you think is one quality/trait that is shared among all of the characters in your books?

Thank you so much, you are such an amazing author!
Annaliese

message 353: by Raquel (new)

Raquel Soares Hi Rainbow I'm from Portugal and I absolutely love Eleanor & Park. You in our novels write about characters in different ages: teenagers(Elounor and Park),college years(Fangirl),midlle-twenties(Atachements) and Adults(Landline). How can you write so well the different ages? And which one was your favorite to write about?

message 354: by Ruth (new)

Ruth MacLaren (ruthieelizabeth) I absolutely adore your books and characters especially fangirl as I can relate to Cath so much.

My question is: If you could go anywhere, do anything with anyone, fictional or real, living or dead, where would you go and who with?

message 355: by Yarp (new)

Yarp Group | 1 comments Congratulations! Eleanor and Park was selected for the 2014 High School YARP List. The YARP Teen Choice Award is a list of Tween and Teen books selected by South Dakota school and public librarians. Tween and Teens read the books and vote on their favorite High School and Middle School Book.

Liz | 1 comments Hi Rainbow,

Writer's block is such a common thing for authors and many have different ways of getting rid of it, how do you get rid of writer's block?

message 357: by Gabby (new)

Gabby (itsgabbyf) | 1 comments I was wondering, did you always know you wanted to be a writer? Also, I am a sophomore in high school and I'm seriously considering writing as a career (even though it's difficult, I know I get that enough from my parents). Is it totally insane for me to be writing stories and stuff already? Is there anything you suggest I can do now, to help me in my future as a writer?

Thank you! You're my favorite author (and quite possibly my favorite person) ever!

Gabrielle Farrell

message 358: by Rachel (new)

Rachel (rachelemily) Hey Rainbow! I was just wondering what are your favourite aspects about writing both YA and adults fiction and if there is one you prefer? xx

message 359: by Tallulah (new)

Tallulah Mckenzie | 1 comments Hi Rainbow!! Love your work!
How you manage to keep your characters so real?
Do your characters have certain character traits that you admire in a person?

message 360: by Catherine (new)

Catherine (cat_has_books) | 1 comments Hi Rainbow!
First let me say that I absolutely loved both Eleanor & Park and Fangirl. I can relate to Cather so much, it's scary. My question is about Fangirl, and it's this: do you think that Cath will eventually start talking with her mom again? Because to be honest, I would not blame her if she never did.

message 361: by Liv (new)

Liv (bookpenguin) | 1 comments How does this book differ from your young adult books e.g Fangirl?

message 362: by Colleen (last edited Jun 26, 2014 07:40PM) (new)

Colleen | 1 comments Eleanor and Park is my favorite book of all time. I am reading it for the fourth time, and I just got it last Spring. I usually don't like YA books because the love story is sappy, but this one is so pure and unique. There are several parts in the book where I just stop reading and smile because it's just so perfect. My question is where do you get your inspiration from?

message 363: by Jaylen (new)

Jaylen (jaylen_) Hello Rainbow,
I really enjoyed you book Fangirl and can't wait to read your other books! Do you think you would ever write an inspirational book?
Thanks
Jaylen

message 364: by Angelina (new)

Angelina Fiore | 1 comments Hello Rainbow,

I just wanted to say that I really liked Fangirl. I have started reading fanfiction, it's interesting to see the different takes people have on the charecters they love. Was there any fanfiction you read during the process for this book?

message 365: by Daniela (new)

Daniela | 1 comments hi rainbow! i'm totally addictive to Eleanor & Park. they are so real, and the story is amazing though i keep finding the ending frustating. maybe that´s the reason i can´t stop readind it over and over again.
i have read Fangirl and i also like it very much. i know there's mo question here, but i have just finished reading Eleanor & Park for the fifth time and wanted to say i´m a big fan! :)

message 366: by Lorena (new)

Lorena Ducreux | 1 comments I loved Eleanor & Park a lot and I'm looking forward to read Fangirl (getting the pink special edition) and Attachments before I get my own copy of Landline.
As I just mentioned, Eleanor & Park is just beautiful, actually one of my favorite books and it warmed my heart so much that I wanted to read more, it was not enough): are you going to write a sequel to that book? cause I would really really like to know what happens!

message 367: by Lily (new)

Lily (tigerlilyherondale) | 1 comments Hello,
I have read all of your intriguing and beautiful writing, and am always ready for anymore books you throw our way. I was particularly interested by Simon Snow and Basil's story from Fangirl, and I was wondering if you have any future plans to write about their story or give us the fanfic Cather wrote. I would be really interested if you decide to write one books from the Simon Snow series. Thank you so much for writing from the stand point of a fanfiction reader, and I am excited to read any future books.

message 368: by Sylvie (new)

Sylvie Bower (sylvienotsylvia) | 2 comments Hi Rainbow!

I've read all of your books (so far) and I absolutely love each and every one of them in their own ways. I just wanted to know a) how you came up with the unique story ideas for your books, b) how you can transition between your teen characters and your adult characters, and c) how you deal with writer's block. Thanks so much and I can't wait to get my hands on Landline!

message 370: by Babeeyada (new)

Babeeyada (PrincessAda) | 1 comments Hi Rainbow ❤️
I love reading all of your books, so my question here would be, are you currently writing a new book ?
If so, what's it going to be about ? Thanks ❤️

message 371: by Nadhira (new)

Nadhira A (nadhirareads) | 1 comments I want to be creeped out and loved like Beth & Lincoln;
To fight and explore each other like Eleanor & Park;
To be annoyed and accepted like Cath & Levi.

Rainbow Rowell, can you please write me my dysfunctional love story?

message 372: by Lena (new)

Lena (leeniizz) WHO is your favourite author and do you have any book/Books in the Guillty plessure departement ;) x

Maria Eduarda | 2 comments Hi, Rainbow, you are one of my favorite autors of all time. And your books are some of the best I've ever read.
So, I wanted to know some of your favorite books and I would also enjoy if you tell me who inspired you to create Cath because I can relate a lot with her.
I love you for writing these books, thank you.

message 374: by Tanya (new)

Tanya | 1 comments Hi rainbow :))
I'm in love with Eleanor and Park and its one of my favorite book :))
And i think it needs to be on the same shelf as The Fault in Our Stars (which is another book i love). Also, I think students should be reading this in every English class :)

Sincerely
Your Fan :)

Mariane | 1 comments Kim wrote: "Ask Rainbow your question here!"

I'd love to know what's the 3 words at the end of the novel? which btw is a cliffhanger. And is there a sequel of Eleanor and Park? I just love the characters you've created. Much appreciated if i can can a reply. Thanks! <3

message 380: by Anshita (new)

Anshita (_book_freak) As a writer, how many hours of the day do you dedicate to writing? Do you have a certain time period when you write like in the morning or at night?

message 381: by Chabely (new)

Chabely (morechabely) | 1 comments Hi Rainbow

I read all your books and I can't wait for this new one to be on sale!

My favorite book is Eleanor and Park. I think I read it like 5 times already and my question is: Have you ever consider the possibility of a sequel novel for E&P?

message 382: by [deleted user] (new)

OMG! That would be so cool if Eleanor and Park had a sequel:).

message 383: by Karen Grace (new)

Karen Grace (wandergrace) | 2 comments O my God. I mean, Rainbow, Hi. :)

I've read all of your books except Landline but my friend is giving me a copy as a gift. Yey!

But... I wonder if Eleanor & Park has a sequel? What was that 3 words? Tell me. I can't sleep. Really.

I love you ( I guess it's not)
I am sorry
I'll be back
Thank you Park
I miss you
What? What? What?
Don't tell me it's Happy New Year?

I'm sorry. I was too attached.

message 384: by Emma (new)

Emma (fangirlingbooknerd) | 1 comments Hi Rainbow! I'm sure a bunch of people have asked to make a sequel for Eleanor and Park… But have you ever considered it? Or making a sequel to any of your books? I know (and you probably know too) that everyone wants them, but have you ever actually thought about writing one? Sorry, if this question has been asked before!

message 385: by Erin (new)

Erin D (ninety8clap) | 1 comments What has the experience been like for you in writing a screenplay (albeit adapted) versus a novel? Do you think you would ever attempt to write an original screenplay (not an adaptation of one of your books)?

message 386: by M (new)

M (gracemiel) | 1 comments 1. Was Angelo's a direct Sherlock reference? (Because that would just be the best.)
2. Going off of the descriptions you've given of your husband on twitter, it seems that Kai and Neal share some traits. How much of Georgie's family did you base on your own, and was it strange for them to read their characters?
3. Do Georgie and Seth get Passing Time?

message 387: by Payton (new)

Payton | 2 comments Who would you want to play your characters in Eleanor and Park, Fangirl, Landline, and Attachments?

message 388: by Payton (new)

Payton | 2 comments Hi Rainbow,

So far I have only read Fangirl and Eleanor & Park, but I have Attachments on my shelf ready to read after my summer reading:(

I know you grew up in Omaha and all of your books take place in Omaha. Are there specific places you include in your books that are significant in your childhood?

Do you have any strange writing habits or rituals?

Lastly how did you come up with Levi? He is just too perfect! I'm in love!

Thank you,
Payton

message 389: by Christina M (new)

Christina M | 1 comments Hi Rainbow!
I feel like expressing that I'm a huge fan of your work is a total understatement, and if I could shower you with compliments for days I totally would. But I'll refrain from such behavior and get to my question.

I recently read an article on BuzzFeed where you discussed that the first draft of your newest book, which is fantasy YA, was submitted. Do you think a book tour will follow its release? Also, how will this book relate and contrast to your previous works?

message 390: by Amy (last edited Jul 17, 2014 11:51AM) (new)

Amy Vaterlaus (biblio_amy) | 1 comments Hi Rainbow!

I love love love Fangirl! Out of all your books thus far, it has really been a book geared towards my teenage fangirl ways. I was wondering if you wrote fan fiction in the past and what was it? Also, do you follow any current fan fiction? Last, how would you feel about fans writing fan fiction based off your work? Okay and maybe one more...are you or have you ever considered yourself a fangirl?

Thank you and keep writing these awesome stories!

Amy

message 396: by Brenda (new)

Brenda (bookishbren) | 1 comments I have read the first 3 books and am excited to start Landline soon! When you start a new story, do you already have the end in mind and where you want the characters to go or do you let it come to you as you write?

P.S. Your books are my fave and you are AWESOME! :)

message 397: by Meg (new)

Meg Gregory | 1 comments I'd say that "I've read your books (all of them)" but that doesn't feel quite right. I've consumed them. They've consumed me. Thanks from the bottom of my heart for that.

I would love to hear you talk about issues of geography and space in your novels, and specifically about the regional character of your writing. It seems to me that you are giving a literary life to Nebraska in your work. Is this intentional? Something that can't be helped? How do you approach this issue of "place" when you write?

message 398: by Rameela (Star) (new)

Rameela (Star) (starshynebrite) I'd just like to say that I love you and your writing! I can't wait to get my hands on Landline!
I'm actually going to be a freshman in college in a couple of weeks and the only thing that's keeping me from freaking out is what I know from Fangirl! I was wondering if you based her college experience on your own and if college really will be something like that?

But really, I love you!

Carly wrote: "Hi Rainbow! Love your books! You have both adult and YA novels - which type do you prefer writing and what makes you branch out to both genres?"

Thanks! I thought I'd get and early start on the chat because on vacation in Scotland, typing on my phone. Please forgive me for any bizarre typos ...

I don't really have a preference, from a writing perspective. I decide what I'm going to write based on whatever idea I'm most interested in, and then I talk to my agent and editor about whether it will be marketed as YA or adult.

That said, I really enjoy talking to teenagers. And writing YA means I get to talk to them and meet them and hear their point of view. They're such passionate readers!

Thank you!

You know, I don't think about the switch. I think about the specific character and what the world looks like from her perspective. If you're inside the character, you naturally write from her age level.
