Heather Harrison (catp0wer) | 1 comments Hello all, I'm Heather from Nottingham, England. I have been a member of GR for some years but have only really become active this year, I have been using the reading challenge feature to track my reading as it's more practical than keeping a list of what I've read in the back of a ratty old note book!

I like to read a wide variety of genres, especially books which tackle dark and difficult subjects or about odd people on the fringes of society, I also love a good immersive historical fiction, spooky stories, and the occasional biography.

This year my challenge is to read 50 books, I am currently on track at 40. I have been trying to alternate between male and female authors as I go and have just finished the Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson.

I have joined this group as I would love to have more friends and activity on GR, as well as gaining a few recommendations, anyone is welcome to friend me/chat about books with me whether you have similar tastes or differing :)

Thanks for reading!

Julia | 1 comments Hello everyone! I am Julia and I am new here! My goal is not huge as I thought, but just 20 books which I gonna read, except that I became to reading in August.
Can you recommend some books to read in October? Something magical, warm and sweet hoho Strange request isn't it?
Thank you and nice to meet you!

message 1454: by Leah (new)

Leah (leahleahbobeah) Hello everyone :)
My name is Leah and I am from Oregon. I joined this group because I love to track my reading progress. I try to read daily because it is one of the constants in my life, reading is part of who I am and what keeps me grounded and happy. I feel like it would be easier to list what I don't read, than what I do.
Some of the most interesting books I have read were book club picks I may not have normally chosen for myself ( back when I was in a book club)
I had originally set my Goodreads 2017 challenge for the year at 30, but met it much quicker than I had anticipated ( last year I read 27) so have changed it to 50 for the year. Am currently reading Peaces for Monsieur Le Cure' by Joanne Harris and it is book #45 for me.

Paola Andrea Grochi Ruibal | 6 comments Hi! I'm Paola from Uruguay, just joining the challenge, hehe! I love reading per se, but my favourite genres are murder, crime, noir novels on one side, and speculative fiction the most. You could say I have a thing for dystopian novels. My objective this year was to 1) read more books than in 2016 (12 in total) and 2) mix old with new, trying to make each book completely different from the previous one.
My Goal for this year is 15 books.

Susy (susysstories) Welcome to the group Julia, Leah and Paola! Good luck with your goals and happy reading!

message 1457: by dani (new)

dani | 22 comments Hey all!
My name is Danielle, I'm (currently) 17 and I'm from Ohio!

I really do enjoy reading a large variety of books from mystery to romance but my all-time favorite is anything fantasy. Specifically epic fantasies. The Lord of the Rings is my all-time favorite and I've actually been meaning to read it again.

I found the group just because I was looking for a good book club to keep me on track with my reading goal. I tend to read really intensely for like a week and then not read again for a few weeks which isn't a good habit.

My reading goal for this year is 35 books. I've got 19 down but it's honestly not going very well so far so I hope we can help keep each other on track for a good reading year :)

message 1458: by Susy (new)

Susy (susysstories) Hi Danielle, welcome to the group! I joined this group for the same reason that you have and it really did wonders for me. I hope you will have the same experience. Looking forward to see what you will be reading! Good luck with your goal and happy reading!

Susy (susysstories) Welcome Tania!

message 1460: by Cat (new)

Cat Cat | 78 comments Hi!
- What kinds of books do you like to read? Historical fiction, adventure, fantasy
- How did you find our group? I have been on goodreads for some years, but never realy interacted with the community, so I searched for some groups and joined. This was the best option for the challenges.
- What's your reading goal? I reached my reading goal this year, but am going on just to see how far I can go.

Susy (susysstories) Hi Cat and Maria, welcome to the group!

message 1463: by Penny (new)

Penny Evenson I hope I can ask this question in this group. I was looking at my books I have read and some of them are listed twice (even though I didn't read them twice). How can I delete one of the duplicates? Thank you for your help in advance.

message 1464: by Susy (new)

Susy (susysstories) You can delete one of the read-dates, that should do the trick. Happened to me a couple of times too.

message 1465: by tif (new)

tif flynn (itsmetif) Hi everyone! I'm tif from Perth, Australia. I stumbled across this group by accident but am pleased to be here :)

I don't really think I have a particular genre that is my favourite. I try to read a wide variety of books but recently I have been reading a lot of memoirs/biographies and non-fiction.

I'm a member of an IRL bookclub and I'm also participating in the Book Riot Read Harder Challenge as well as the POPSUGAR reading challenge for this year. My aim at the start of the year was to read 40 books but I have already passed that so may increase it to 60.

Happy reading!

message 1466: by Ilona (new)

Ilona | 4698 comments Hi tif, welcome to the group! :)

Kathy - Books & Munches (booksandmunches) Hi everyone!

I just saw this group on a friend's page and decided to check it out. Not to add my reading goals for this year - they're all over the place, really - but hopefully for those of 2018!

But first: I'm a 25 year old from Belgium. I've always loved reading fantasy and lately I've been expanding my horizons by trying out manga, sci-fi and a whoooole lot of contemporary and YA in general. I've also started my blog earlier this year, which made me even more passionate about reading - and I thought that wouldn't be possible, ha!

This year I first wanted to read 50 books. Then I came across the Popsugar Reading Challenge and I wanted to complete that one. By now, I still have three more prompts to go to do just that.
Apart from that I want to get my physical TBR down to 100 - Currently I'm at about 127? I think?

For next year, I've been brainstorming about my reading goals a lot already. It's going to be huge because I have a section for genres, the Popsugar Reading Challenge [I really enjoyed that one!] and other things. Since I like a place to keep track of it all, I thought I might do that here. :D

Looking forward to seeing everyone's reading goals!

message 1468: by Yokiooo! (last edited Oct 14, 2017 12:53PM) (new)

Yokiooo! | 1 comments Hi everyone,
my name is Souhaila and I'm from Germany (sry if my english is not the best). I found this group by browsing around Goodreads. Maybe I should learn a bit for the exams but books are so much more interesting!
I try to change the genres of the books I read but I can't help and read the most time fantasy or YA. But I also enjoy historical-fiction like The Book Thief and All The Light We Cannot See (big recommendation!)
My goal for this year is 50 books and I'm almost done! I try to raise my goal each year for 5 books so I don't put too much pressure. (Anyways I don't really care a lot if I reach my Reading Goals 'caouse if i have time to read than I read, if not than...)
This is my first group I join to. Hope we'll have a nice time here at fangirling and -boying :)

message 1469: by Susy (new)

Susy (susysstories) Welcome Souhaila!

message 1470: by Allie (new)

Allie (alliekraay) | 5 comments Hi All, I'm Allie. I'm 32 and from Canada. I've always been a big reader however, I got a bit out of reading during college when I got overwhelmed with history books and suddenly reading for fun didn't seem like an option anymore.

Happy to say that I've rediscovered it in the last 5 or so years and I am pretty much open to reading just about anything. I also have a 2 year old so I've also gotten to know a lot of kid books as well recently (and Thomas the train...always Thomas the train) :P

I'm looking forward to getting to know the group better and hoping to participate in some challenges.

Isaura Vazquez (isaura79) | 1 comments Hi All, I'm from San Jose, California and happy to have found this group. Love to read books and listen to Audio books while I'm driving or running. I'm always looking for something new to read to keep me up at night. Almost at the end of the year and will reach my goal, so I'm happy about that...

message 1480: by Siltsu (new)

Siltsu (ladysiltsu) Hello! I'm Silja from Finland. I used to read a lot when I was younger but not so much recently due to concentration issues. I just installed an audio book app to my phone which has me listening and reading more books again :) I hope to complete my reading challenge of 25 books this year!

message 1482: by D.G. (new)

D.G. Hi, I'm D.G. from the Dominican Republic. :) My favorite genres are romance, fantasy and mystery but I read pretty much everything. I don't have a set goal - I read over 100 books a year regularly - but I'd like to work on my audio TBR, who's getting out of control. :)

message 1483: by Susy (new)

Susy (susysstories) Hi D.G., welcome to the group!

message 1484: by AliceG (new)

AliceG (alisson44) Hi, I'm Alice, I'm from Scotland and this is the first group I join even though I've been a member since 2011. I mainly read contemporary fiction and I'm getting really annoyed when life gets in the way of reading. I hope to complete my challenge of 50 books this year, even though I'm way behind at 30.

Welcome Alice :) It took me a while to discover groups too. There's a lot going on here helping to catch up/read more. I read a lot more after I joined here :) Good luck and don't hesitate to ask if you need some help navigate the page :)

message 1487: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer | 1 comments Hello Everyone, I found out about this book challenge at the Texas Conference for women. I printed out the 2018 popsugar book challenge, but I didn’t see that group on the goodreads app.

I am from Austin Tx and am hoping to increase the amount and variety of books I read. I am an avid audiobook listener and tend to focus on “brain candy”, like Janet evanovich...want to get more into reading. I am a mother of 2 with a very busy work schedule, but wanted to give it a try.

I already went to the library and picked out a book for the first prompt, read a book that is from a movie you have seen. (Miss Peregrine’s home for Peculiar children). My daughter is reading it, so I thought it might be fun to join her

Looking forward to being in the group! Sincerely, jen

Consuelo | 190 comments Hello, my name is Consuelo, I'm a native spanish speaker, so my english isn't the best. I'm from Spain and I love read and do challenges, so this is the reason why I'm here. I like romantic and fantasy books, but if a book makes me cry it cath my heart, no matter what genres it's. My challenge for 2017 is 12 books, and I don't know if I should include my university books in this challenge. What do yo think?

My toughts: If you can find them listed on goodreads count them 😊 they usually suck out all the energy in me. Might as well make them count.😄

message 1491: by Susy (new)

Susy (susysstories) I’m going to start counting the books I read for work too!

message 1492: by Marcus (new)

Marcus Vinicius | 110 comments Count it, Consuelo. No doubts at it! Welcome!

message 1493: by Sarah (new)

Sarah (PlantBasedNerd) I'm Sarah. I'm from Birmingham, England.
I enjoy romance, horror, sci fi, poetry, literature, historic, comedy... like tons.
My goal is 20 books, only because I set it around a month ago. I've read 11 and I've got 9 to go, so I'm doing well!

message 1494: by Susy (new)

Susy (susysstories) Welcome to the group Sarah!

message 1495: by Smrithi (new)

Smrithi | 2 comments Hi everyone. I’m Smrithi from India. I love reading biographies, autobiographies, thrillers and classics. I’ve been looking to join a book club for sometime, especially because I wanted to set a 2018 goal to read 30 books. And while aiming to meet my goal wanted to share views and read reviews ... so thanks and looking forward to some interesting interactions.

message 1496: by Susy (new)

Susy (susysstories) Welcome Smrithi!

message 1497: by Winter, Group Reads (new)

Winter (winter9) | 4998 comments Welcome everyone :)

message 1498: by Ashwin (new)

Ashwin V (ashwinv) | 7 comments My name is Ashwin. I am from India, I’ve loved to read ever since I was child. My favorite authors growing were Stephen King and Dean Koontz. So even as a child I loved the horror/thriller genre. Though I still very much enjoy those two authors, my reading horizons have vastly expanded. My love for reading and books in general has never vanished, and I will be setting my goals pretty high this coming year.

message 1499: by Shannon (new)

Shannon (sjwthompson) | 1 comments Hi, I'm Shannon. I'm from Pennsylvania (U.S.). I found this group via another Goodreads friend. I'm also participating in the 2017 Popsugar Challenge. I mainly read science fiction and fantasy and young adult novels but I want to broaden my reading and these challenges help me read outside my normal comfort zone. I've found a ton of great books this year through the challenge prompts and group suggestions. I plan to continue next year and in the years to come.

I started out with a goal of 50 books this year, but I changed it to 75 and I've passed that already. Adding audio to my "reading" has increased my ability to get to books I want to read.

message 1500: by Susy (new)

Susy (susysstories) Hi Ashwin and Shannon! Welcome to the group!
