Introduce Yourself to the Group - 2017!

I love read every night 50 pages. I love read romantic, fiction, dystopia but I´m looking

hello I passed for the same thing, I love goodreads.

I hope you enjoy your Kindle Paperwhite as much as I do, and get through a bunch of great books :)
Happy reading and good luck with your goal!"
Thanks Lisa :)

Welcome to the group Sarah, good luck with your reading challenge! However, do not obligate yourself to finish the challenge, what matters most is that you enjoy reading :) And you can always lower your goal a bit to make it achievable.

Nice to meet you Kate! With the exception of romance and detective stories, we have similar tastes :) I look forward to seeing what you will be reading throughout the year!
Take your time figuring things out and don't hesitate to let us know if you have any questions :)
Best of luck with your reading goal!

Hi Sarah and welcome to the group!
Boy, oh boy, do I know what you mean! If you're feeling pressured by your reading challenge, perhaps you might want to downscale your goal a bit?
I hope you manage to catch up during the months when school is out :) Good luck!

Never been in any book club whatsoever, and I basically use Goodreads to track books I've read and get recommendations on new ones to read. Sort of like IMDB for books.
I've never set myself a reading goal before. I though I'd start humble at 24.
I almost exclusively read Fantasy, and since SoIaF, almost exclusively GrimDark. The one exception to that rule is Stephen King, the man who can (almost :-p) do no wrong.
Not to say that I've never read anything else, mind you. From Haruhi Murakami to James Clavell, from Victor Hugo to Paulo Coelho, I've been around, but... yeah... Fantasy's the ticket.

24 books is a great starting point :)
lol, I was wondering what SoIaF was an acronym for... Thank you Google!
Anyways, good luck with your goal and happy reading!

My name is Mustapha, from Morocco. I just joined this group, and I like reading challenges. I like classics literature, romance, psycho, but I enjoy all kinds of books!

My name is Malola.
I'm happy to have joined this group. :D
Hopefully it will help me out keeping focused with my books. XD lol (I tend to read several at time...)
I'm Ecuadorian, I love depressing novels, but currently I'm trying to read more nonfiction. This year I wanted to reach 6000 pages (at least 30 books), but I'm no counting like newspaper stories or articles online. :D
Nice meeting you guys. :)
Hugs;
Malola

Welcome to the group Valerie! We basically have reading challenges because it is fun! Personally, I really like to be more aware of the books I read, and carefully pick them out so they meet the challenges that I participate in. My goal is usually based on the number of books I read each month (~3), but also whether I can use the group read or buddy reads for the challenge. Also, it is another way to see what others read (and like) :) Hope that I have answered your questions and feel free to try some challenges. Good luck with your goals!

Well, I used to read a lot, I loved escaping to a completely different world, but then life happened and I stopped reading altogether. Since I've been feeling better, I have been trying to get back into reading and rekindling my passion for reading, but I was having a hard time succeeding. So when I found this group I decided to give it a try. Although I'm not yet completely back to my old reading self, I do find this group very helpful.
Because my reading was down to 0, and I didn't want to get discouraged by not meeting my goal, I started out with one book a month. Recently I've raised that goal to two a month. I'm doing quite well on that goal but I don't want to raise it anymore, because I'm starting to feel a bit pressured, like I Have to read and I really don't want that to happen. I want to get back to longing to read and to lose myself in the story I'm reading, so there's no room for pressure (besides, I have enough pressure from work, so reading should really be to relax myself!).
Another goal I have is to finally read al those books that have been waiting to be read for years now. So I joined one challenge for that purpose. Although I must say that all the fun buddy/group reads are getting in the way of me reaching that goal.....
How about you? Are you planning on joining any of the challenges or maybe the buddy/group reads?

I have over 3,000 books on my TBR shelf and add more almost every day. I know I'm never going to get to them all and, for the most part, that's okay. But I really appreciate reading challenges to help guide my reading and give it some structure; I spend less time trying to figure out what to read next and more time actually reading.
The book-a-week goal I try to achieve annually is pretty arbitrary, but it works for me. It feels achievable; I have to work for it, but not too hard. Last year, I stopped reading in March, so I'm thrilled that it's July and I'm still going strong. Our group challenges, buddy reads, and TBR twins have a lot to do with that, and I'm grateful for them all, and for our wonderful group moderators and challenge leaders.

This is the first group I joined on goodreads, so I'm really looking forward to great discussions with you. This year I plan on reading at least 55 books. So far I've read 43.
I love fantasy, the darker the better, but I actually read all kind of stories.

My name is Manav Singh. I'm an avid reader. I love reading. I'm from the United Kingdom but am currently living in the United States. I usually read about 70-100 books in one year. My goal this year, however, is double that. Yes, this year, I plan on reading 140-200 books. I'm entering my freshman year in high school (9th grade). Some of the other things I do are fencing, kung fu, and shooting.
This was a little about me. Thanks for reading!!
P.S. - Please add me on Goodreads, I add back.

The second type of buddy read we have here is called TBR Twins. When the thread is posted (usually by Kara, one of our group moderators), we sign up and express our interest in getting matched up with another group member. Upon getting matched up (at the beginning of the following month), we have a look at the books we've got in common with our assigned "TBR twin," select a book, and read it together. It's like the buddy reads, but it's private, just you and your assigned twin. You can find more comprehensive information in the TBR Twins thread.
Hope that helps. =)

Looks like Nik got it covered :) Hope to see you joining some buddyreads soon!
Thanks Nik!

I like almost all kinds of books especially the classics.
I found this blog on the list and I sign up because I need some help keeping up with my reading, it turns to be difficult with work and school, so I need something to keep me on track and to keep me reading more, because I really love it and it really helps me in many ways.

I am a scientist and enjoy reading about biology, environmental issues, and the history of science. But I am also fascinated by medieval history and enjoy US history as well. And biographies. And anything that looks interesting on the "new books" shelf at the local library. I originally set my 2017 goal at twenty-four books, but when I realized I was close to meeting my goal so soon I updated it to thirty-six.

I mostly read fantasy and som historical fiction but I also love a good contemporary.
My goal for 2017 is set to 40 books which I think I might me able to achieve. Sadly I must have done something wrong because in the notebook I have i have written down 18 or 19 books but goodreads says I have read 6 or 8 or something even though I have entered all the books. I guess that is sad. Good luck to all of you!!!!

My name is Michelle, I'm from California the Nothern part. I only just started being a member of goodreads this year. I found this group while looking for a new group to be in. I love to read any kind of genre from history to literary fiction to young adult to biography to comedy to science fiction to manga to science to romance to mystery to so on.
My goal for this year was to read 12 books, but then changed it to 20 and now 50. You might be wondering why I change my goal number so many time it is because every time I achieved it I wanted to see how much further I can do.

Hi Michelle and welcome to the group :)
I had the same thought process as you :) But I started the year with a goal of 12 books, then upped it to 20 and now it's at 40. I'm currently reading my 32nd book and don't think I'll be changing it again since I want to see how much I can surpass my goal.
I recommend the challenges and buddy/group reads! They've really helped me with ideas on what to read and stay on track with my goal :)
Hope you'll enjoy the group as much as I do! Happy reading :)

Welcome! I think you'll find that joining this group will help you reach (and perhaps even surpass) your goal :)
Please don't hesitate to pose any questions you may have.
Best of luck with your reading challenge this year.

I read a variety of topics and I love the recommendations area, though I can quickly see that also becoming my downfall :)
In my free time, besides reading, I love to hike, bike, and spend time with my family. I'm a huge fan of music as well.

Are you looking for suggestions in general within the genre or do you have a preference as to what type of horror fiction (supernatural, psychological, comic, visceral, etc.)?
I've found that the group challenges have helped me expand my horizons and read outside my confort zone, so I definitely encourage you to join those :)
Welcome to the group!

I'm new here (and it seems very late in comparison to everyone else's posts)
So here's a few things about me:
Age? 26
Do i own a bookshelf? Yes, i do, but it sucks and i'm working on building a new one..
- Where are you from? Johannesburg, South Africa
- What kinds of books do you like to read? Fiction, Romance, Historical Romance, Mafia romance, Shifter- type novels, anything good to be honest (except for Biographies and Religious books - not a big fan of those)
- How did you find our group? I was looking at recently active group because I can actually participate in them more frequently now.
- What's your reading goal? 24 (so far) - I've read 15 to date but i'm in kind of a reading slump at the moment due to otherworldly responsibilities (and my best friend requiring me to catch up with Grey's Anatomy since i'm only on Season 6 now) - but last year I changed my goal a lot, started somewhere around 20 and ended up with 58 for the year, so i'm sure the number will change.

Thank you :) I'd be grateful if u could suggest some psychological or supernatural thrillers.
