I am a very eclectic reader and will read most anything, but I tend toward fantasy, science fiction, and mystery the most. I have been an avid reader for over 5 decades. Most of the books I read tend to be written before the year 2000 only because, when I find a new author I like, I go back to their first book and try to read their books in the order published. My number 1 most read author is C.J. Cherryh having read 65 of her books.

Yes :) I'm not 100% that I'll follow through with every single one, but I am going to try and complete most of them. I really like the challenges that are set up and I'm excited what the quarterly and monthly ones will look like :) I want it to be 2017 already!!

challenge ideas 2017

I'm Litavore for Montana, US. I read all kinds of books but I do tend to lean towards nonfiction and history. I lately have an obsession with India and Japan, a smattering of China so reading up on whatever I can about their history and language, books in general. I tend to flit from topical obsession to topical obsession freely, as you can see. Also, I have a passion for cooking and cookbooks, especially food outside of the US so any other foodies out there are free to say hi!
I'm usually a fast reader when I have the time and will read two or three books at once so I welcome recommendations.

I came across the reading challenge on FB and I thought I would give it a go.
I am looking forward to reading and being part of the group.

My main reading genre is YA - it's embedded in my DNA most likely seeing as I spent 5 years buying YA fiction for a bookchain. I also enjoy a bit of romance, historical and thriller fiction, Christian living and I'm known to read an authors whole backlist (middle grade and all!) My favourite book is [and always will be] The Time Travelers Wife by Audrey Niffenegger...it was through that book that I discovered my love of time travel storylines!
My goal for the year started at 150 (2015 was 130 of which I read 136) but I dropped it to 100 in October due to illness. I'm buckling my seat belt and hoping to achieve the 150 in 2017 - though one of my goals for the year is to reread the collection of Sweet Valley books I've just had to take out of storage...so I may increase to 200 depending on circumstances!

I love to read and came across this group and thought it would be good for me to join since I just set my new goal for 2017. The library is where I get all my books and I record them through this site so I will be able to remember them without having to keep them in my home. Love this site!!! Looking forward to 2017!

Another hobby is dog showing, which has been a family hobby since my mom was a teenager, and we currently have 3 dogs we are showing: my mom is showing an 18-month-old Irish Setter puppy named Bobby; I am showing an almost 3-year-old champion English Setter named Patch, and my daughter is showing a 3-year-old English Setter named Serra. Neither of these dogs live with us full-time, but live with my mom, except for Serra who comes to visit and stay with my daughter for extended visits every few weeks. At home, we have a retired champion English Setter named Foster who will be 6 in March. My mom has a second Irish Setter who is 6 named Riley and my sister has a tweenie Dachshund named Pepper who will be turning 12 in April.
My reading tastes can vary, but I tend to read a lot of young adult, fantasy, sci-fi, and historical fiction. I am currently reading Hollow City and am hoping to finish the trilogy with Library of Souls before the end of the year. My goal for 2016 was to read 48 books but it was cut short due to other real world responsibilities. As of right now I have read 32/48, but I am hoping I can get to 34/48 with the completion of the two books above before the end of the month/year!
I have been a member of Goodreads since February 2012 and have found a number of fantastic reads through the site. When I was attending college I passed the time by reviewing books for my book blog, "Reviews of a Self Proclaimed Bibliophile," but sadly had to give that up due to real world responsibilities. I missed the outlet of my book blog, getting to talk about books in a constructive manner or just fangirling over them with other bookish people and went searching for a bookish community that was a blend of an online book club and what I would consider a reading challenge support group/cheer squad. That was how I came across this group and figured I would check it out and get to know some fellow bookworms working toward our reading goals for the new year.
So my daughter and I were talking about our reading goals for next year and I decided that my goal is going to be 40 books and she said her goal is going to be 48 books read in 2017. I figure that 40 books is a good middle ground number for me right now based on my schedule but it will still push me a bit. I got kind of lax in my reading this year during the early summer, so I am hoping that I can stay motivated and read more consistently throughout the year.
I am looking forward to getting to know all of you through your bookish adventures toward your reading goals! Wishing everyone a wonderful holiday and a lovely new year!

I am basically reading everything, lol. I love reading all genres, but my ultimate crush since 16 years ago is classics. This year, I found out that many of Young Adult novels (romance and fantasy are welcome) are great. So, I am also reading YA a lot for now.
I was a member in Goodreads since 2010 but did not active and totally forgot my details to signed in. I then made this account in 2012 but then again, I did not active for years. To be frank, I started re-organize my shelves here two months ago. During that time, I was thinking to be more active in Goodreads by not just giving ratings but also reviewing. And I also decide to be more active in groups I join. Here is the starting point.
I could not manage to actively organize my reading challenge in 2016, so I guess it would be great to join this group and be actively engaged in the discussion and manage to reinforce my reading challenge in 2017. I have not yet set my goal for 2017 tho.

Hey, Blagica. I'm currently reading "Surely You're Joking, Mr. Feynman!" and I am really enjoying it. I will finish it tomorrow and then be looking for another biography? Any suggestions? I'll check out the Genre Bingo challenge. Thanks for the greeting.

I was a Gamer. Binge watched loads of Anime and Series.
I still am a Cinephile.
I decided to drop Gaming (Expensive) & watching Anime and Series as I realised I could read a book or more for one season of something.
Had exams earlier this year so started reading from June but Amazingly enough (for me at least) I'm about to finish 20 Books this year (An average of 300 pages per book). I feel like I accomplished something which isn't a feeling I'm used to.
Hope I make wonderful friends here and interactions here make me want to read more.
My favourites:
The Ultimate Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy
Wayward Pines Trilogy
Jack Reacher Books
Bird Box
Animal Farm
Thank you :)

I'm Ju and from Melbourne, Australia. I'm so in love with this city!
I'm a student midwife and am an avid reader (although much of that is study books atm). I love all things speculative fiction, especially really good urban fantasy and space opera with awesome characters. I read all sub-genres of spec fic except horror with great joy. I occasionally read biographies/autobiographies, or essay books but they're few and far between. I also read quite a lot on midwifery.
I found the group last year through doing my yearly goal (and having discovered other groups that year). I am really enjoying the variety of challenges and the chance to participate at various levels :) My main goal for reading in 2017 is 75 books again - last year of my degree and a reduced reading capacity! I've met my goal this year and am maybe looking like I could get to 80 if I'm lucky :)
Looking forward to a new year and new challenges!

I am obsessed with reading! I have been on goodreads since 2011, but really just started using it a year ago. My book goal for 2016 was actually low for me bc I wanted to slow down, but I cant help myself. For 2017 I will increaes it.

I currently read about 20 fantasy books and about 4 non fiction books a year (some repeats). My goal this year is to get up to 35 total books.
I'm always up for book suggestions though I don't promise to finish a book if it doesn't interest me.
I have never participated in any discussions on Goodreads so this is me exploring the community and seeing what I can do with it.

I've been reading since as long as I can remember.
I started quite young with Comic Books.
I've read both English and Hindi Literature. Since I'm Hindi speaking.
I like to read translated books too, whether in English or Hindi.
I read a lot but have never participated in any discussion anywhere at all. While at my parent's I discussed with my father or brother. But now I'm living away from them so I don't have anyone here to talk about books, especially.
So I'm here to see what happens.

Things have calmed down a bit now, so I'm looking forwrd to doing a couple of reading challenges in 2017.

you are welcome Paul my pleasure. I liked Scar Tissue and Yes Please

I'm Randy from southern California. I won't bother you with tales of how cold it is here but it's expected to dip all the way down to 76 F today so I might have to put on socks!
This is my 2nd year in the group - last year I set a reasonable, conservative goal of 20 books but I'm at 35 now and should finish 2-3 more by the end of the year. I expect to have less time to read next year so I'll probably keep my goal at 30.
A few years ago as I struggled to stay interested in books I learned that I'm better off by reading several at a time. It seems to keep me focused and less likely to get bored or get into a reading slump. So I read 6-8 books at a time, usually 1-2 each from the following genres:
- Non-Fiction
- General Fiction and/or Classics
- Mystery/Thriller
- Science-Fiction
- Fantasy
- Short Story collection/anthology
I don't worry too much about the number of books I read and I try to go for quality, although I got some stinkers in last year as always. I'm not a speed reader either, and some books I enjoy so much (Cloud Atlas, Blood Meridian: Or the Evening Redness in the West, etc) I read very slowly so I can savor every word.
Anyway, I look forward to meeting all of you and I wish you Happy Holidays! Hopefully you enjoy a great reading start to your 2017.

My favourite books have been theological such as "The Elijah Task" and many titles by Charles G. Finney, Kenneth Hagin and Derek Prince.
But a few years ago my taste dramatically changed after doing a degree in digital film, I now read more books on psychology, politics and current affairs.
Thank you for letting me be in this group, I look forward to being inspired by your posts.

For 2017, my goal will be 30 books.
I found the group randomly on Goodreads:) I like to read books for either personal growth or to travel - explore other world/ cultures/ ideas.
If anyone has tips on improving my reading speed, please share! :)

I seem to love historical fiction and physcho thriller. I also love a good laugh and a good cry!
My 2016 goal was 16 books and I read one extra ! So in 2017 I plan on 24 for the year. It works with my family life!

- What kinds of books do you like to read? I love to read suspense/thrillers, true crime, and memoirs.
- How did you find our group? I got to thinking about reading more and did a search for 100+ books.
- What's your reading goal? My reading goal this year is 100 books. I am trying to write a novel and I know the more I read the better my writing will be.
Thank you for having me here! Good luck to everyone!
Darlene

Thank you for letting me join the group!
