Suzanne | 26 comments Hello Sarah, do you like the Southern mysteries? I love them most in the genre of mysteries and crime.
I like to read some memoirs also, and I like biographies.
I will start (if time is aviable ;)) with a memoir called "The Homesick Restaurant".
Welcome to this group!

Lauren | 1 comments Hi,
I'm Lauren. I live in France but am British. I read in French and English and belong to 2 book clubs, one in each language.
I will read almost anything but for sci fi and fantasy but I particularly like detective fiction.
As for challenges, just getting through my book club books is enough. Anything else is a bonus.

Sarah Savastano-Morrill (sarahsavyy) | 2 comments Hello! my name is Sarah and I'm from Williamsburg, VA. I love books, but my favorite are young adult fiction especially historical and sci fi! I'm new here to Goodreads and really don't know what I'm doing so I'm really not sure how I found this group. My goal this year is to read 40 books averaging about 3~ books a month. I'm in college so getting time to read can be hard so I hope I can do this.

Suzanne | 26 comments I am now living in Malente, between Lubeck and Kiel. I know some parts of Brandenburg, so I like much the Fläming, the lake Stechlin, Rheinsberg. And I love to read Theodor Fontane "Reisen durch die Mark Brandenburg".
Berlin I don't like anymore.
I had a research in FU Düppel.
40 books a year ... good!

Allison | 491 comments Hey everyone! I'm Allie from Michigan and I've been wanting to join new groups for some time now. My reading goal for 2017 is to read more group/buddy reads and discuss books with different people since I don't get to talk about books in my real life (NO ONE reads!!!) My main bookish loves are Historical Fiction, mysteries/thrillers, cozy mysteries, Classics, Bios and I'm branching out into more YA lately. Looking forward to chatting with all of you!

Hello there!

I'm Loren K., I'm from Argentina. I joined Goodreads last year, but I have to admit I didn't know how to use it well. My goal last year was 15 books, if I'm not mistaked, but since I joined at half of last year I submited the goal I wanted for the end of the year. Before those 15 I had read another 15.
So, this is way, my goal this year is 40 books. So, fingers crossed, because is February already and I'm already left behind!
I like thriller and terror stories (like Poe or Lovecraft), science fiction novels, fantasy and humor books.

I'm also a writer, and my goal as a writer is to re-activate the activity in my blog, that I had to abandone because of my career and work last year. I invite you to pass by, and because I know there must be so many writers here, I would love to visit your writing blog too!
Here is mine: https://lorenhasapen.wordpress.com/

Nice to meet you all!

Willy Akhdes Hi all. My name is Willy. I'm from Indonesia. I live in Bandung, 3 hours from Jakarta, the capital.
I joined Goodreads in 2015. I like reading very much, I continue to read more books every year. Last year I completed my personal challenge to read 50 books, I end up with 86 books read in 2016. So, I'm going to make 80 books to be read in 2017 as my personal challenge. After finishing a book, I try to write a review in my personal blog. You can visit to check out my reading.

Hi Dian, salam kenal. I enjoy non-fiction book as well especially philosophy, history and memoir. I wanted to read Tipping point since last year but I still haven't touch that book and still sprawled on my bookshelf. I will read it shortly. :)
If you like memoir or autography I can recommend you my two favorite memoirs of 2016, those are What I Talk About When I talk About Running (Haruki Murakami) and Seven Good Years (Etgar Keret). Those are magnificent

message 664: by Vivian (new)

Vivian | 1 comments Hi, I'm Vivian and I am from Los Angeles. I'm fairly new here, this is the first group I've joined. I want to read more. Last year I met my goal of reading 12 books and this year I am hoping to read at least 20 books. I don't really have a favorite genre, I read both fiction and non-fiction. I am currently reading the Lonely City by Olivia Laing.

message 665: by Nina (new)

Nina | 354 comments Hi everyone,

my name is Nina and I am from Germany.
I am currently doing my phD in chemistry and have quite limited reading time.
I joined the group because I love the reading challenge on Goodreads and try to set myself a goal for some years now.
I would love to take part in more challenges as it motivates me to read a lot more.
I am not big in reviews, i often only rate the books i read, and that has to change!
I hope i will learn that during the year and through the discussions in this group.
I love thrillers, historical fiction, fantasy and some classics every now and then.
I also like to read or evenmore listen to young adult books, escpecially on my walk to work (big recommendation here, it has a major impact on the amount of books i read)
I am not big into science fiction or romance.

Hope to read you soon,

Greating nina

PamB | 5 comments Hello everyone! My name is Pam and I live in the Empire State, specifically "The Big Apple." I've belonged to Goodreads for a few years. I set a reading goal for 2017 of 275 books. Romance and Dystopian novels are my favorite genres but I'm trying to expand to reading other types of fiction. I'll try to set up the folders mentioned for this group, but no promises :). One of this group's members posted in another group I belong to. I found her to be an interesting person so I browsed her groups and found this one.

message 669: by B (new)

B Hello! My name is Brianna and I live in Los Angeles, CA. I found Goodreads thru my sisterinlaw because I have a list of books I'd like to read by the time I turn 30 (two years!) I set my 2017 challenge at 10 books but my list keeps getting longer so it'll probably change lol. I'm trying to read a lot of classics and books on high school reading lists that I didn't read back then nor did I appreciate them. I also really like reading books that were made into movies. But my list consists Catcher in the Rye, The Bell Jar, Great Expectations, etc. I just finished The Book Thief (crieedddddd at the end but it was soooo good) and I'm halfway thru Lord of the Flies, next on my list is 12 Years a Slave.
Check out my shelves and let me know if you have any suggestions! My shelves are pretty short since I just added this app like 4 days ago lol

message 672: by Rodrigo (new)

Rodrigo Flores (rodrigo12) | 1 comments Hello, all.

I'm Rodrigo, from Guadalajara, Mexico.

I really like to read and for this year I set my challenge to 20 books, but my main goal is to read at least 35. So far, I'm at my 5th book (hooray!)

I'm new in goodreads groups and I think this group would be good for many of us who want to meet up a reading challenge.

Lately I've been really into japanese novels, mostly from Natsume Soseki. If any of you have recommendations of other japanese authors, feel free to tell me (:

I also would like to read more about art and mexican history this year.

message 673: by Anna (new)

Anna | 5 comments Hi, I'm Anna from Budapest, Hungary.
My favourite genres are fantasy, magical realism and mystery. Last year my goal was to read 50 books, and managed 107. This year my goal is 80 books.
I found this challenge through Goodreads friends. I plan to take part in some activities, starting with reading The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy with the group in February.

message 674: by Idaliana (new)

Idaliana Medina | 1 comments Hey everyone! My name is Idaliana and I'm from Mass. I used to be an avid reader. When I was younger, I would read over 30 books for summer reading lol. I was the kid who liked to read. My favorite book of all time is The Alchemist. I also really enjoy the Hannah Swenson Mystery Books and Kinsey Millhone Alphabet Series. I don't have a particular reading goal this year yet. I just want to get back in the flow of things for now!

message 675: by Sue (last edited Feb 04, 2017 04:29AM) (new)

Sue (smiller1588) Hello, I'm CJ and I am from KY. I have been reading actively since 2015 and I set a goal for 50 last year and ended up passing it by 5! It made me feel good about myself, I know others probably don't think it is a lot, but when you have a family it is hard to find time to read. Anyway, my goal for this year is 60 and I hope I can pass that too. I would love recommendations if anyone else knows of some good books in the Dark Romance/Erotica, or Stockholm genre? My favorite author is Pepper Winters, if you like dark romance you have most likely heard of her, she is fantastic, she just released a new book Crown of Lies, and has been releasing regular parts to her Dollar series 1st book> Pennies My favorite book last year though was from M. Robinson, El Diablo I had a book hangover for a week after reading it!

message 677: by Maaike (new)

Maaike van Stratum (stratski) | 145 comments Hi, I'm Maaike, fromthe Netherlands. I read books for a living (I'm an editor) and as a hobby. I love all kinds of stuff: thrillers, sci-fi, classics, travel literature, history, you name it. I love the thematic challenges here so I'll be reading lots of different non fiction and books from lots of different languages this year. My goal is 100 books in total.

message 678: by Laura (new)

Laura (lauradragonchild) | 80 comments Hi I am Laura and I am a Romanian settled in India.
I have been around Goodreads for some time now but joined a group only this year. I love to read, especially fantasy both epic and light, but wouldn't turn down a good romance or thriller either. My favorite book is actually 2:)) - The Shadow Queen and Shalador's Lady by Anne Bishop. Right now I am reading the works of Robin Hobb - just finished Royal Assassin today - and I love them. I have never really counted the books I'm normally reading but they are many. I've set my goal for this year at 120 books. My first reading challenge ever and I don't really know if I'll be able to do it but I like challenges and I'll give it a try. I have read 15 so far so yey!!..I might be able to do it.

message 679: by Amanda (new)

Amanda Hello :) My name is Amanda. I come from a tiny island in Europe, called Malta. I have been a member of Goodreads for a few years but I’ve only started using it on a frequently basis in the past few months.

I have also discovered booktube, which is an excellent source of book recommendations. I’m always very keen on discovering what has been released recently! Unfortunately my tbr list keeps growing faster than the amount of finished books I manage to read.

I used to read compulsively but lately due to work and life commitments I was struggling to read books on a regular basis. As a resolution for this year I wish to read at least a book once a week (52) and rediscover my love for books. To date I’m quite satisfied with my progress. This might be the only resolution I might end up keeping! I am actually hoping that I might end up reading more books than that but I didn’t want to raise the bar too high.

I would enjoy any book recommendations - I like reading practically everything but my favourite genres are psychological thrillers, crime and fantasy.

message 681: by Marla (new)

Marla (artisin59) | 2 comments Hello, My name is Marla and I am a read-a-holic. I am from the Birmingham area. I love getting lost in books. I read 3-4 books a week and a lot of them are re-reads as well as new. I like fiction, para-normal, romance, syfy, YA (even though I am 57 :P), urban fiction. My goal is 100 books this year but I have a problem with the challenge because I re-read and you cannot account for that here. So I probably read 200 books a year in real life. I have been on Goodreads several years but this is my time to officially join a group other than specific friends.
Cheers ya'll and happy reading!

I am from Singapore and stumbled upon this group while reading about Zahra's Paradise. I loved your shelf of books and would love to interact more with like-minded readers.

I mostly read literary fictions, fantasy, and detective novels. However quite recently I have been introduced to the amazing world of graphic novels and am totally loving it. My reading goal set for 2017 is 40 but hope to make a 50 at least :)

I love to read romance above everything else, but I enjoy young adult, paranormal, fantasy, dystopian, apocaliptic or post-apocaliptic, history romance and more :). My reading goal is 120, wish me luck!

message 689: by Rina (new)

Rina Hey, all!

I've been on Goodreads for many years now, but this is my first time joining the challenge group. My goal this year is 42 books. I'd actually love to read more, but I have 4 kids, two of which are 2 or under. So, we'll see how it goes!

I read fantasy books almost exclusively, but I'm also hoping to sneak a few new types in this year.

message 690: by Becca (new)

Becca Watts | 181 comments Hello guys! I am Rebecca, and I am 10 days away from age 15! I've loved reading for as long as I remember, but I'm still relatively new to Goodreads. My favorite genres are YA, fantasy, and some romance.

My goal for the year is to read 25 books, if not more. I am excited to join this group and all it has to offer!

message 691: by Tahera (last edited Feb 07, 2017 09:49PM) (new)

Tahera | 98 comments Hi everyone!! My name is Tahera and I am from Pakistan! I joined this website in 2012 but was never active here till a few days back after a friend insisted I be active here! I basically love reading a lot of different genres from romance, historical fiction, history, thriller, mystery, classics, fantasy...basically I am open to reading anything, it just has to be good. I just stumbled upon this page and decided to give it a go...I personally have set myself a challenge of reading 10 books for now... who knows the list may grow....

message 692: by Melanie (new)

Melanie (libmelanie) | 4 comments Hi, everyone! :)

I'm Melanie and I'm a librarian from Florida. I primarily read YA fiction and biographies/memoirs (I particularly enjoy listening to these as audiobooks), but I also enjoy reading bestsellers (especially thrillers), horror, paranormal fiction, classics, fantasy, sci-fi, juvenile fiction, etc. I'll read pretty much anything and I'm always open to suggestions!

Though I've been a member of Goodreads since 2012, I actually found this group via PopSugar. A friend sent me the link for the 2017 Reading Challenge, and I decided to search Goodreads for the challenge. It lead me to this group, so here I am!

My overall goal is to complete the PopSugar 2017 Reading Challenge; all 52 books, including the Advanced challenge. For 2017 in general, I would like to read 75 books (25 more than my 2016 Goodreads goal). I'm also looking forward to joining in more discussions and seeing what everyone is reading and enjoying (or not enjoying; equally as important!) and just generally broadening my reading horizons.

message 693: by Michaël (new)

Michaël Wertenberg Hello,
Writer, Cat Lover, English Teacher--I'm currently moving through Eastern Europe, looking for the X that marks the spot.
I'll read 30 books this year, including the rest of the Shirley Jackson cannon, and more Pulitzer and Booker winners.
I'm also trying to catch on to the Twitter craze (late comer).
Come follow me @ #MWertenberg

message 694: by Abby (new)

Abby Hello! I'm Abby and I live in Knoxville, Tennessee where I'm in grad school for rhetoric and composition. My goal is to read 40 books this year, and I'm thinking I'll at least get close since I'm in the process of writing my thesis and preparing for an oral exam based on a big reading list, so I have lots of books that I *need* to read. I love classic fiction, but I also enjoy older mystery and spy novels, along with more contemporary "literary" novels. I've been getting more into political theory and sociology lately, esp. about racial and class issues (because of what my academic research is in), and I'm hoping to read more history books this year.

When I'm not reading or doing school work, I love knitting, baking, and hanging out with my kitty, Margot.

message 695: by Denise (new)

Denise Hi! My name is Denise and I'm from Minneapolis, MN. I'm attempting to read 36+ books in 2017. I like YA, mysteries.....well, I like almost any genre. I look forward to finding recommendations here.

message 696: by Myra (new)

Myra (myrakhan) Hi Everyone,

My name is Myra and I am from Pakistan!

I love reading most genres of fiction - with the exception of horror and books about war. I tend to lean towards fantasy and magical realism - however i want to definitely expand my horizons in 2017! My reading goal for 2017 is to read 100 books ! (quite ambitious for someone with a full time job). But I love escaping to a different world, it gives me peace.

I look forward to meeting new people who share the same passion for reading that I have! Its so hard to find people that read these days - especially in Pakistan.
