wosedwew | 414 comments Oh Sara -- that is so scary! The water can damage so much so fast.
At least you still have power (and hopefully safe drinking water) and can ride it out. Your family (and all of Texas) is in my thoughts and prayers. Take care of your kids and keep reading!

Debbie (dmbrown) | 734 comments Oh, Sara! It's good to know that you're safe so far, at least. We'll be praying that you and your neighbors stay that way - and for your sanity trying to keep the kids occupied!

Teresa | 313 comments I'm in Ireland Sara and I've just watched it on the news. It looks scary. So much water everywhere!! Over here in Donegal, which is in the Republic but is in the north of the country, they had a months rain in a couple of hours last week. There was devastation up there and still it wasn't even a quarter of what ye got. We're not equipped for anything like that here because we're not used to it. The climate is changing rapidly and we've got to get with it or we're doomed. Keeping you and your's in my thoughts.

J. W. Garrett (jeannewallacegarrett) | 1166 comments Oh Sara... I was just watching a news report. OMG!! Bless your heart. I'll be praying for y'all. Parts of Texas have already had 30+ inches of rain and expecting 20+ inches more. Thank goodness you are on higher ground.

Joy, please let Sheila know that she won an audio book on the Austen Authors website. I let Regina Jeffers know that I would notify you so you could tell Sheila. Since there is a time-line for responding I wasn't sure Sheila would see it. So... if you please.

Yes, the place isn't the same without her! I had the great pleasure of meeting her a couple months ago in NYC along with Claudine and Devoney.

J. W. Garrett (jeannewallacegarrett) | 1166 comments Kirk, I was just at Austen Variations and was so amazed at the generous offer of many JAFF authors. Limited time... profits from book sales will go toward the storm relief. There are several authors in the path of this monster. I was able to pick up a book I didn't have.

Loved the plot for this. It's really ingenious and is a mystery mixed with a protracted ending to Pride and Prejudice, most of which is the backstory before this begins. All occurs as in the original, including Lady C's confrontation of Elizabeth that leads to Mr. Darcy returning to Longbourn afterward to propose again, except he doesn't. Why? That's the mystery. Not only does he not return, he actively avoids Elizabeth even though Bingley and Jane marry. Darcy forbids Georgiana from communicating with her and won't visit a home where she's in residence. Most of the story is from Elizabeth's POV, and she is broken-hearted and confused.

The writing is excellent except for some redundancy. And the dreaded "like the plot of some fantastical novel," a variation of which appears several times. HATE that!!!

The solution to the mystery proves to be Machiavellian. Great read.

181. Mr. Darcy and Mrs. Wickham - 5 stars
https://www.vanityandpridepress.com/m...
Thank you, Sara! This takes perhaps 15 minutes to read. Modern P&P. Darcy married Caroline (ugh!) and Elizabeth married Wickham (oh, no!!). They take the same train home every day. Perfectly satisfying short story.

Debbie (dmbrown) | 734 comments Does anyone know how close the unpublished Fair Stands the Wind is to the paperback copy of Fair Stands the Wind? I know it may be sacrilege to say, but I just don't have the space for print books anymore and so I exclusively get kindle books. At the moment (maybe it'll change?), there's no kindle version available. I just finished reading the online fanfic posting at A Happy Assembly, but I'm very curious to know if there are any significant differences.

No idea -- I will read the on-line version after I finish Cliffs of Hertfordshire.

message 1200: by Debbie (new)

Debbie (dmbrown) | 734 comments Well, I just found my answer here on GoodReads. Someone asked the author the same question, and her reply is:

Yes, an ebook is coming soon! This story was previously posted on a fanfic site, but has been revised and updated for publication.

Okay. Revised and updated. I'll be watching for it. The unpublished version is excellent!
