Last day in France. Back to Blighty this avo. It has been an absolute gas. Then Easter, the Wednesday visit to the old dears and back to writing.

I've been doing about 1000 words a day - give or take - on the 1st draft over the last couple of weeks. So that was all good.

But after the bank holiday I have the jury service to do, so after today I don't know when I'll get back to it.

Also I'm really close to having the final draft book ready for proof reading, but I doubt if that will be ready before the jury business either, so that will more than likely be left in limbo too.

Wrote one verse to a folk tune yesterday. Should be plotting next book but we had a day out and my mind was elsewhere! It's sort of taking shape, though.

Trying something new with Tallis. Decided on a story I can sell as a short 'stand alone' and see if I can lure any of the magazines into biting.
Much to my shock I've done over 4,000 words this afternoon.
It'll need editing!

Seems that you can't order either proofs or discounted author copies via the KDP system. So no stock fpr signings, book fairs or conventions if you don't use CS

I've not managed to get my head into any writing this weekend, even though I've spent it on the sofa. Just can't seem to get back into it. Going to try some short sprint things to see if I can get back in the swing of things again.

Over the weekend I wrote a surprising 1500 word short story from nothing. I'd seen a call for submissions I just couldn't resist and had to come up with something sharpish before the 26th April closing date. Winners (don't know how many) get to read their story at Waterstones Piccadilly, their flagship store. The theme was all things to do with Nationalism, Identity, Belonging.

I spent the entire day trying to get my bloody computer to let me browse the directories on my flash drive. Needless to say it works just fine on every other computer in the house. I have an old one I can use for back up but it's not nearly as convenient. The whole thing is most irritating.

I did two blog posts, one for each, because I've to go down to London tomorrow for meetings and not going to have any writing time until Friday

Am currently in the marketing & Pr prep stage for the new novel release later summer. About 5 pitch pieces, plus a couple of essays and a load of social media graphics. It's not real writing though. Think that's why I've been writing so many short stories around the edges, just to be doing something creative

Grr, finished the folk song, really pleased with it, then thought I'd listen once more to the tune before sending the words off to the composer. Realised that while I'd been away and working on it as I travelled, I had completely misremembered the first and third thirds of each verse. Radical rewrite in order. And I still haven't started the novella for midsummer.

I managed about 650 words today, but made a bit of a breakthrough with a scene that was troubling me so I'm happy.

I consulted a member of the police force for my first thriller with regard to rankings and responsibilities -and daft little things like what they'd call one another. Hugely helpful but now I need to bring it all into line. There will be addings and subtractings for a while, I think.

That's why I try to avoid contemporary fiction now - too many technicalities! What's Georgian stays Georgian.
