M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments As an ex public passenger transport worker, I can tell you that the train doesn't always kill them. Sometimes have plenty of time to consider, and regret their decision. It is when the train is finally winched off them that they die. Horrific. For everyone.

250 words today. Was too busy sorting out the latest shit my parents have got themselves into. Sigh.

Cheers

Lexie Conyngham | 1297 comments Nothing today (unless I get the competition short story written this evening): letting the current WIP stew for a couple of days before I go back to add in the missing bits. That and being too busy.

✿Claire✿ (clairelm) | 2602 comments A friend told me that if they see someone on the tracks, often the driver will sound the horn, apply the brake and turn around so they don't actually have to witness it. I always feel sorry for the driver as well.
Oddly enough, another friend and I were talking about it yesterday (we were discussing bad jobs and interesting jobs and everything in between) and he said the important thing if I ever get called to one is to get stuck in and involved, you don't get time to really think about it then until afterwards and it doesn't affect you as much.
Not done much writing the last few days, got a chest infection so not done much of anything today. Back to work tomorrow so I might get my writing mojo back :)

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments Oh dear, this seems to have turned into the body count thread! Claire, I don't know how you do it!

It's not my fault, I didn't start it!!!
And I've decided not to kill off my character, yet!!

But seriously, thank you, I sometimes wonder as well.

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments I think its all Will's fault. It usually is...

I'm sure your character has breathed a sign of relief!

message 807: by ✿Claire✿ (new)

✿Claire✿ (clairelm) | 2602 comments Maybe... he's going to be half drowned and then captured so maybe not!!

Yes, we'll blame Will, sounds like a good idea!

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments Hahaha, then breathing will be a problem :)

Will does make an excellent scapegoat.

message 809: by Will (new)

Will Macmillan Jones (willmacmillanjones) | 11324 comments Hey, I only offed two of them today.

I will try and cut down.

Actually, that gives me n idea for this passing priest...

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments "Will no one rid me of this troublesome priest?"

message 811: by Will (new)

Will Macmillan Jones (willmacmillanjones) | 11324 comments *Raises hand*

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments Ok, don't tell me any details, thanks.

Will Macmillan Jones (willmacmillanjones) | 11324 comments So I won't mention the woman I've had eaten from the inside out, then

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments Necrotising fasciitis or naughty demon?

message 815: by David (new)

David Hadley Only 457 words today.

But I did get to the plot point at the end of the first act and enter the middle build at around 17-18000 words.

Dunno what all that means, but it does make it look like I know what I'm doing.

Ha.

Will Macmillan Jones (willmacmillanjones) | 11324 comments I'm now approaching the climax of this book. Final scene in view.

Еeating all of what's resting, ha-ha..?

328 words today for microcompetition "In just 3 frases", sci-fi genre -- the shortest piece of my ever! Had to invest some great brainstorming but...

message 818: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21809 comments A couple of thousand more words for Tallis. I'm preparing a blog tour but this one was one story I decided to stick on my blog :-)

https://tallissteelyard.wordpress.com...

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments Tallis always seems to end up involved in drama or one sort or another!

message 820: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21809 comments he has a flair for the dramatic

message 821: by M.T. (new)

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments Nothing today but I did a 3k blog post again: https://mtmcguire.co.uk/2017/03/18/re...

Cheers

Will Macmillan Jones (willmacmillanjones) | 11324 comments And at just shy of 60K, I've just typed The End of the first draft.

So not exactly the end. Not even the beginning of the end. More like the end of the beginning.

message 823: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments 309 words. Not much but it's an edit. Total so far is 70,845.

message 824: by Lisa (new)

Lisa Marie Gabriel (lisamariegabriel) | 1066 comments Nothing for days unless you count Twitter. Here's where I make a dire confession; if Mew was human he would probably have joined the body count. I love him dearly but after weeks of getting an average of three hours sleep a night and those gruesome howls every time he sees me settle to work on the PC in the hall... Well, thank goodness for him he is a cat! A friend of mine says there is not much difference between a senior cat and a newborn baby. Perhaps I will manage something this afternoon. He is sleeping now and the laptop is under the sofa.

message 825: by M.T. (new)

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments Well done Will and Kath, sympathies Lisa.

I managed 789 today in the last 40 minutes so I'm quite chuffed. Things are getting going nicely and I've hit on a nice way to tie in the characters it is supposed to be about with the people it's actually about. So that's good.

Cheers

MTM

message 826: by David (new)

David Hadley 1152 words today.

message 827: by Will (new)

Will Macmillan Jones (willmacmillanjones) | 11324 comments Tomorrow I can start redrafting.

message 828: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments 293 - you can tell it's not a first draft!

message 829: by David (new)

David Hadley 1177 today.

message 830: by Will (new)

Will Macmillan Jones (willmacmillanjones) | 11324 comments I've added a few hundred on the first edit pass.

message 831: by M.T. (new)

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments Just over 1,000. ;-) Dead chuffed.

message 832: by Lisa (new)

Lisa Marie Gabriel (lisamariegabriel) | 1066 comments I managed to list a couple of items on eBay. Does that count? :)

message 833: by Pam (new)

Pam Baddeley | 3334 comments Managed to edit a couple of chapters yesterday; a lot of other stuff going on at the moment.

message 836: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Only 153 today but the edit is moving on.

message 837: by David (new)

David Hadley 1191 today in the 1st draft.

I suppose I ought to count the 300-400 I added today to the one currently in outline stage too.

message 838: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments You certainly should.

message 839: by David (new)

David Hadley Kath wrote: "You certainly should."

and the 54 words I've - apparently - added to the current second draft too?

I have also discovered I like editing.

message 840: by Lisa (new)

Lisa Marie Gabriel (lisamariegabriel) | 1066 comments 485 for a bio, precis down to 231 to make it more snappy... The cat has been pilled! Yay! No fuss, furosemide this morning, fortekor this afternoon and he is getting sneaky vitamin B in his dinner. It may or may not calm him down... If so, more words tomorrow, perhaps.

message 841: by M.T. (new)

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments Well done everyone. I did just under 200 today, which wasn't bad for a visit the parents day! ;-)

Cheers

How do you know about what happens to the words down in my story dungeon?

Anyway, it is for their own good. Words need firm discipline to get them to say what you want them to say.

message 845: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21809 comments Didn't Humpty Dumpty tell Alice something like that?

message 846: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21809 comments Oh and got something written
It's been slow, not had a lot of time to write because of having to do other stuff. But not only that with the Carthaginian thing I'm working on I have to do research and check facts and I can spend an evening and add thirty words!

So it was a delight to sit down this afternoon and bang out 1700 for Tallis Steelyard for his blog :-)

message 847: by Lexie (new)

Lexie Conyngham | 1297 comments I managed (quite by accident) to use a steelyard in my current WIP. I also had a goat, but I think he might become a bulldog. It's difficult to know when I haven't had the chance to start editing yet.

message 848: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21809 comments It's a good name and struck me as a little incongruous for a poet. I told Tallis that and he sulked briefly

message 849: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth White | 1761 comments Re-ordered the last chapter yesterday so it made better sense. Now for the 'read out loud to self' bit to see where the story stutters.

message 850: by David (new)

David Hadley Jim wrote: "Didn't Humpty Dumpty tell Alice something like that?"

Yes.

Or no.

Depending on what he wanted those words to mean.
