Liz (liz_the_librarian) I hope everyone had a wonderful long weekend! I know I enjoyed the gorgeous weather. I spent Sunday reading at the beach in Corolla; it was the perfect beach day.

June will be here in a few days, and the challenge will be to read an action book, adventure novel or thriller. I will put a suggestion thread in a couple of days.

Last week was a productive reading week for me. I read Stephen King's Rage. I never knew he'd written a novel about a school shooting. Then I started the next book in the chronology, Night Shift, which is a collection of short stories.

I also started and finished B.J. Novak's short stories One More Thing. It was one of the best collections of short stories I've ever read. I highly recommend it.

Due to rave reviews of Laini Taylor's Daughter of Smoke and Bone, I picked that one up next. It was a quick read, and now I'm anxiously awaiting the next one to become available to check out.

This week I plan to finish Night Shift and to start The Stand. I'm also hoping the next book in The Daughter of Smoke and Bone series comes in.

What is everyone reading this week?

Rage by Stephen King Night Shift by Stephen King One More Thing Stories and Other Stories by B.J. Novak Daughter of Smoke & Bone (Daughter of Smoke & Bone, #1) by Laini Taylor The Stand by Stephen King

Ann (ann-fracturedfiction) | 516 comments I read 12 Years a Slave by Solomon Northup, this month's book club selection. It was a powerful book, I'm now interested to see the movie to see if it is true to the book.
And for something completely different, I checked out from the library Darynda Jones' Sixth Grave on the Edge. I love this series. :)

Jennifer Penn (jenniferpenn) | 41 comments Currently reading Looking for Me by Beth Hoffman and it is the first book this year to literally make me cry. I think it's because it hits me personally. The main character gives a gift that makes someones dream come true with no strings attached and this has happened to be recently, someone paid my school registration fees with no questions asked and told me to follow my dreams. Sorry to be all personal but this book is really effecting me and I encourage everyone to check it out. it's a great read.

Kyra Hay | 41 comments I'm reading Looking for Alaska and The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer! They are both very good so far!

What a cool experience! Books are so powerful because we all relate to them in different ways. There's nothing quite like reading a book and feeling a deeper connection to your own life and experiences.

Kyra Hay | 41 comments How has everyone else been keeping up with logging your books on the CPL website? I find myself forgetting and then logging 5-10 books at a time....

Ingrid Hurst (bookrdr) | 285 comments For some reason, I am not in the mood for any of the books I had thought about reading. Think I need to read a mindless book just to have something light to read until I figure out what's next.

Kelsey I'm brand new and starting the challenge this week! My husband and I just finished listening to the audiobook of Unbroken by Laura Hillenbrand on a road trip--what a story! Now I'm listening to Rebecca (Daphne du Maurier) on my drives to work.

For "real" books, I have a few pages of The Secret Life of Bees (Sue Monk Kidd) left and can't wait to see how it wraps up. Next up is Someday, Someday Maybe by Lauren Graham. I'm hoping she makes as great of an author as an actress on Gilmore Girls!

Unbroken A World War II Story of Survival, Resilience, and Redemption by Laura Hillenbrand Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier The Secret Life of Bees by Sue Monk Kidd Someday, Someday, Maybe by Lauren Graham

I'm the same way, Kyra. I just keep track in a spreadsheet, and on some rainy day, I'll sit down and put them all into the actual 52 Book Log.

Welcome to the challenge, Kelsey! It's great to see people just getting into the challenge now!

Jennifer Penn (jenniferpenn) | 41 comments Kelsey The Secret Life of Bees was great, if you haven't seen the movie you should check it out, they did a great job keeping with the story.

I log mine in all at once at the end of the week. At the end of the week just before I go to the Library and return my finished books.

This week I am reading several blind selections. (just walked into the Library and randomly picked up 15 books without really looking at the titles or descriptions)

The Hidden Girl, Nil, Illusion, Shadow People, to name a few, as well as The One, Red Rising and Joyland which were on hold for me start out my week, there are a few others that I can not recall at the moment.

I can't wait to see it! I'm glad to hear they stayed true to the story.

I listen to a lot too! It makes driving in Hampton Roads traffic a little more tolerable.

Thank you everyone, for the warm welcome! I'm excited be a part of a little book-loving community.

What a fun idea to have blind selections! I saw an idea somewhere online where a library had a "blind date with a book" program for Valentine's Day. They covered several books with pink/red paper, decorated them, and only put minor hints as to the subject matter. It looked like a fun way to break out of your normal book picks!

We've done that at CPL for the past couple of years, too! It's always fun to wrap the books and make the display, but I have yet to actually take a book out on a blind date. Maybe next Valentine's will be the one!

message 18: by Jodie (new)

Jodie Reha The Stand by Stephen King is my all-time favorite book, Liz! I've read it 3 times, and am feeling like I want to read it again. Last summer, I re-read some King classics, i.e. The Shining.

I'm pretty excited to read it; it's usually touted as his best book. It's so long, though. I know it will take me a good chunk of time to get through.
