message 1412: by Megan (new)

Megan (lahairoi) | 7470 comments Just finished #23 (red spine) - Sisi: Empress on Her Own by Allison Pataki. Overall, this book was good. I appreciate that the author tried to stick to historical accuracy as much as possible. However, it seemed to limit her fictional sections quite a bit. The story was a bit stilted, and her interpretation of Sisi seemed forced and inexplicable at times. The writing was good, but the pacing was a bit strained throughout the book. Overall, worth reading. 3.5 stars

message 1446: by Megan (new)

Megan (lahairoi) | 7470 comments Just completed #1 (book recommended by librarian) - Max Perkins: Editor of Genius by A. Scott Berg. I always appreciate books that teach me something or reveal a world heretofore unknown. That's how I feel about this book - it was packed with realizations about the editor behind genius authors. The overall book could have used some of its own editing, and while I appreciate the author using primary source material as much as possible, it definitely bogged down the book in places. Overall, worth reading! 4 stars
