I have now read 21 chapters and so far I like this book. Here are some of my thoughts:

It's so great to be (view spoiler)[ back in Thomas's world. I was disappointed with the Scorch Trials movie, so it's nice to have a positive Maze Runner experience again. It's interesting to learn about Thomas's life at the Wicked compound and the work he and his friends did for the organization. (hide spoiler)]

It bothers me (view spoiler)[ a little that Thomas and Teresa are friends with all the same people they'll end up trusting in the maze later. I mean, what are the odds that that would happen? (hide spoiler)]

I really like (view spoiler)[ Minho. Somehow I always liked him in the previous books too. I wish we will learn more about Rachel and Aris later. I also hope Thomas and Teresa will get to work on the maze soon. It will be interesting to see what their role in building it will be. (hide spoiler)]

It's interesting (view spoiler)[ to see the maze trials from an outsider's point of view. I mean, from the point of view of someone who is not in the maze himself. It must be pretty hard for Thomas and Teresa to send all those kids to the maze, when they know the kids will lose all their memories. Every day they have to watch their friends, who don't even know they exist. I wish we'd get to see the events in the other maze as well. I'd like to know if things are very similar there or if they are some major differences in the daily routines of the two mazes. (hide spoiler)]

I wonder why (view spoiler)[ the employees at Wicked let Chuck hang out with Thomas in the control room even after he saw George die. Isn't he a little young to see such things? Well, it's not like Thomas and Teresa are adults either, but Chuck is much younger than them. (hide spoiler)]

Obviously (view spoiler)[ I knew something was gonna go wrong and Thomas would not enter the maze with his memories, but it's still not cool how they tricked him. I get that Teresa trusts Wicked and all that, but I still don't like it that she betrayed Thomas. Personally I'm kind of undecided, whether Wicked is good or bad. (hide spoiler)]

Dr. Paige (view spoiler)[ was a bit more obsessed with the maze trials than I expected. I think Death Cure left me with the idea that she was a good person, who helped Thomas and the others to safety in the end. However, she didn't seem that good in this book. Well, I guess her intentions were good. She wanted to find the cure no matter what. It's just that some of the choices she made made her look obsessed and power hungry. I ended up not liking her very much. (hide spoiler)]

Overall, (view spoiler)[ I think this was an interesting read. It was nice to see what happened during the years Thomas and Teresa worked for Wicked. It would be interesting to reread the Maze Runner now and see if knowing the past would affect, how I look at the characters or the events in the maze. (hide spoiler)]

I agree with you that it was (view spoiler)[ awful how Dr. Paige misguided and betrayed Thomas, even though we knew that that would happen in the end. (hide spoiler)]

I can't believe that (view spoiler)[ Dr. Paige was the responsible for the Chancellor's death, only in order to get the power and add more time to the trials. She was completely obsessed with it that she forgot what it was truly about. (hide spoiler)]

I have no idea how (view spoiler)[ the Trials were supposed to help the cause, though. Were they just monitoring their responses and brain activity? It seems unclear to me, at least from a scientific viewpoint. (hide spoiler)]

I loved getting (view spoiler)[ to know more about Newt (even a chapter!), Teresa, Chuck, Alby, Gally (he was always the same), and the others. It was nice to know that Sonya was actually Newt's sister (although her original name was Elizabeth). (hide spoiler)]

Did it ever occur to you that (view spoiler)[ none of the characters' names were ever their names? (hide spoiler)]

Overall, this was a really good read, and I enjoyed it far better than The Kill Order.

I had the same problem Alberto. (view spoiler)[ I never understood, how the trials were supposed to help Wicked in finding the cure. I guess they were just monitoring their brain activity in order to see, how the subjects would react to different situations. But I have no idea, how that was supposed to help them. (hide spoiler)]

I also found it (view spoiler)[ interesting that Sonya was Newt's sister. It never came up in the previous books. Obviously, because neither of them would remember they're siblings. And it's so strange to think that we always knew only the names Wicked had chosen for the characters. Haha, I don't think I would ever be able to call the characters with their original names. :D (hide spoiler)]
