Karen | 7 comments I think the guy is desperate and willing to take the insane job. The object he must steal is in a high-tech impossible to break-into protected safe or bank or similar, on a deserted moon or asteroid. The missing arm (or just hand) is a plot point - (view spoiler) I think the author wasn't an SF author so much as fun quick thrill type books. Maybe read 15, 20 years ago. Page turner, not literary.
Thanks!

Gil Hamilton.

I didn't find it. Ah well!

Ky | 449 comments Dunno if Karen is still around but this somewhat reminds me of Rogue in Space by Fredric Brown. Main character Crag is missing a hand, not his whole arm, and he travels to Mars rather than the moon to break into a genius scientist's compound and steal a piece of highly desirable tech. But he doesn't have the ability to materialize his missing hand and reach through walls. He does have an artificial hand he can throw as a weapon though.
