Lata | 371 comments Cathy and I are reading (in my case rereading) the series, and I keep finding new details. I've been listening to the series again this reread, and keep loving Kobna's work as everyone.

message 102: by Cathy (new)

Cathy (cathepsut) Foxglove Summer was the first one I listened to. Loved it. I would love to start Hanging Tree right away, I have a spare audible credit. Trying hard to wait till our scheduled buddy read.... *sigh*

carol. | 551 comments ha! I'm not a big audio fan--I have a really hard time maintaining attention and with pace--but I love Kobna's reading. He really finds his groove with the series by Whispers Underground, and I love all the voices, especially as an American. I get a much better feel for some of the cultural differences.

Mark | 6 comments Hello everyone, I been a huge fan of the Peter Grant books since the first book came out.

Just discovered this group when my Goodread friend Margaret post came up in my GR feed.

So I thought great, got cool people to talk with about these great books.

message 109: by Lata (new)

Lata | 371 comments We tend to reread the books frequently and keep pointing out details we missed on earlier rereads. And we have a new novella to look forward to in 2019! :) :)

message 110: by Bardbooks (new)

Bardbooks | 24 comments Greetings -- Just began reading Rivers of London series in late December 2018 and currently in Chp. 10 of Whispers Underground. While I'm late to the game (and group), still hoping there will be some fun here!

Thank you -- hoping to find a few fans here who are willing to revisit the series.

Lata | 371 comments I’m always happy to reread this series 🙂

message 116: by carol. (new)

carol. | 551 comments Why, yes, I would be happy to re-listen to Whispers Underground for the ninth time, but first I was considering The Hanging Tree for the third time...

I re-read the series on a regular basis. I've read "Lies Sleeping" 3 times since I got it in November. :)

Same here, carol.. I was hoping to squeeze Hanging Tree in this month.

message 119: by Shaun (new)

Shaun (ss_atkinson) | 2 comments Hi all - been looking online for some Rivers of London groups and stumbled across this one - looks really interesting from what I've seen. I feel pretty late to the series - just about to start Book 4 - I can't wait!

message 120: by carol. (new)

carol. | 551 comments Welcome! Such a fun series :) Glad that you are finding it enjoyable. Feel free to jump in to a thread as you read. We've tried to mark one for each book/graphic, and usually with/without spoilers.

The latest book is going to be released this month... I'm very excited for it.

message 121: by Lata (new)

Lata | 371 comments Welcome Shaun! It is such a great series.
I can't wait for False Value either -- very excited too!

message 122: by Margaret (new)

Margaret (margyw) | 317 comments I am counting the days until False Value is released. :)

Shaun (ss_atkinson) | 2 comments Thanks for the welcome everyone.

John Doe | 37 comments so happy that i realised that False Value is coming soon. now the challenge is deciding - do I read it first or listen first?

...obviously i'll do both...more than once. already restarted the audiobooks series. it's really important to make sure the new earbuds work not because i'm addicted to the series at all

message 125: by carol. (new)

carol. | 551 comments You know, the last one, I listened AND read, taking turns for each. It was slow going but I kind of liked it.

message 126: by Hank (new)

Hank (hankenstein) | 15 comments Did you end up reading and listening to the same parts or just once for each section either reading or listening?

message 127: by carol. (new)

carol. | 551 comments Nothing quite planned, I don't think. I read, then listened, since reading can go so much faster for me. I like to listen in my car, but I might have listened on dog walks as well, to speed up the pace, since my commute isn't that long.

message 128: by Lata (new)

Lata | 371 comments I ended up only listening to Lies Sleeping. I want to go back and read the text to fully appreciate some Peter's many digressions.

message 129: by Hank (new)

Hank (hankenstein) | 15 comments I only own the audio copies of all of them. I suspect if I were to read, I will still have Kobna's voice in my head but I am now quite tempted to try.

message 130: by Lata (new)

Lata | 371 comments I actually do hear Kobna’s voice when I read the books because I’ve listened to them more than I’ve read them.

message 131: by carol. (new)

carol. | 551 comments ^^^ YES!

lol! Not that that's a bad thing. :D

Agreed! He's one of my favourite narrators.

message 133: by John (new)

John Doe | 37 comments Kobna = Peter Grant

message 134: by Capn (new)

Capn | 20 comments Hello all! Quiet, introverted type here, but very pleased to join you fellow Isaacs nonetheless. Big fan of the series - keen to hear any update on the Simon Pegg and Nick Frost involvement with a putative television series! ~ Cap'n

message 135: by Margaret (new)

Margaret (margyw) | 317 comments Welcome Capn.

carol. | 551 comments Welcome! Oooh, a tv program? That would be cool. I could see it---Aaronvitch does have some experience, sort of, with the Dr. Who scripts.

message 138: by Lata (new)

Lata | 371 comments Welcome, Capn.
I had heard about the possible tv series. Aaronovitch and Pegg&Frost were writing, but who knows if any distributor will bite? I hope so, and I also worry, since tv necessitates changes to material.

message 139: by Capn (new)

Capn | 20 comments Yes, Lata! I am also quite concerned about this! :( The books are ALWAYS better, aren't they?!

message 140: by Astolat (new)

Astolat | 2 comments Hi everyone, been a fan of these ever since I started reading Rivers of London in a Waterstones in my lunchbreak, and was late back to work... Not a fan of the GN (sorry), and the novellas always seem a bit expensive for what they are, but have lost count of the number of times I've read the novels.

message 141: by Lata (new)

Lata | 371 comments Hi Astrolat! Welcome!

I can imagine getting so engrossed in these books that you would forget the time! The stories are so good.

message 142: by Siddy (new)

Siddy | 1 comments Hello!! So excited to find this group. I'm new to goodreads but I've spent the last month of my life consuming the Rivers of London series, and now that a ninth book is out next April its nice to have people to share the excruciating wait with.

message 143: by Wanda (new)

Wanda Pedersen | 41 comments Hi, Siddy! Welcome.

message 144: by Margaret (new)

Margaret (margyw) | 317 comments Welcome, Siddy. :)

message 145: by Hank (new)

Hank (hankenstein) | 15 comments Do you mainly read the books or listen to them Siddy?

I almost exclusively listen because I like the narrator so much.

message 146: by Lata (new)

Lata | 371 comments Welcome Siddy! Glad to meet you!
And the Rivers series is addictive, isn’t it? I love the audio versions, thank to the incomparable Kobna Holbrook-Smith.

message 147: by Mark (new)

Mark | 38 comments Not sure where to make this suggestion, so I'll leave it here!

I'm currently reading The Strings of Murder which I think fellow RoL fans will also like! It's set in Edinburgh during the Victorian era, with two policemen investigating what we would know as 'weird bollocks'. It's more occult than magic, but if anyone is looking for something to read it may be worth checking out :)

message 148: by Lata (new)

Lata | 371 comments "The Strings of Murder" has been on my TBR for years! Thank you for reminding me to move it up on my list, Mark.

message 149: by Mimi (new)

Mimi (1stavenue) | 75 comments Thanks for the suggestion, Mark. This book looks interesting and it's the first in an ongoing series. Adding it to my list and probably moving it up as well like Lata.

message 150: by Ronnie (new)

Ronnie (ronnieb) | 170 comments In a similar vein, can I suggest the "Dr. Will Raven" series by Ambrose Parry?
Medical murder mysteries set in mid 19th century Edinburgh.
