I should have read your warning first. I found A Deadly Bridal Shower.

Joan Jannene, I love that title but aren't all bridal and baby showers deadly?

Lori, I have a few that spring to mind:

All Quiet on the Western Front
Ruby Red"

There are also
Inkheart
The Neverending Story

What genres do you like?

The few that I have gone to, no one ends up dead. They may wish they were! Lol

Thanks Annerlee! I was pretty sure I was going to go with Ruby Red since its on my tbr shelf, however, I'm going to add The Neverending Story as an option since I've never read it. I've already read the Inkheart trilogy and loved it.
I like most genres, and always willing to try new ones, but my favorites are mysteries and thrillers.

message 160: by Joan (new)

Joan Haitian Creole ideas anyone? Yup, that's the language I'd like to learn - very bad answer for the survey, however.
In my defense, I've been fascinated by Haiti since I was a kid.

Jayme | 4520 comments Help! For number #14 "things you use everyday" I rather tongue-in-cheek wrote deodorant and now I am having a dreadful time trying to find anything with that word that is 175 plus pages. I have tried smelly and stink, but that tends to end up being picture books.
Can I go the route of perfume that also covers smells even though deodorant technically doesn't cover a smell?

message 166: by Sandra, Moderator (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11261 comments What scent do you use, Jayme? I am thinking my daughter is using "primrose", I am using "fresh", and my son "Irish spring". Maybe your deodorant scent might provide an idea?

I never thought of that! I use "Dry Idea" and am off to gopher. Thanks so much for your help :)

message 168: by Sandra, Moderator (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11261 comments I hope you find a gem!

Dry Idea sounds promising.

message 169: by Janice, Moderator (last edited Dec 11, 2016 08:58AM) (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59897 comments I think someone put "spoon" down for that task. Here are a couple of suggestions:

Egg & Spoon by Gregory Maguire , Egg & Spoon
The Wonder by Emma Donoghue , The Wonder

message 170: by Sandra, Moderator (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11261 comments Yes, that was Dominique.

message 171: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19148 comments Those were the exact same two I thought of for spoon, Janice. They seem like good options to me.

message 172: by Camilla (new)

Camilla | 2101 comments I chose toothbrush.. Luckily I had The Woman Who Swallowed a Toothbrush: And Other Weird Medical Case Histories on my TBR and I even owned it already.

message 173: by Camilla (new)

Camilla | 2101 comments Another spoon book:
Elena Vanishing by Elena Dunkle

message 174: by Casceil (new)

Casceil | 2728 comments My choice for item I use every day was "tea mug." I have two I use everyday. The mug for morning tea shows the earth as seen from the moon. For evening tea I use a mug with parrots on it. I figure I should be able to find something that relates to one of them. If anyone knows of any good books related to parrots, let me know.

message 175: by Jannene (last edited Dec 11, 2016 05:52PM) (new)

Jannene | 3124 comments I used the word car for three things; something I use every day, I prefer car over truck and my favorite transportation. So, finding three books that have a car on them are quite difficult.

The zodiac sign Virgo is quite challenging as well. Since we are of the "earth" I found Dark Earth which I am still not 100% sold.

I picked July 4th as my favorite holiday. I still can't find anything unless I want to read 4th of July over again.

message 176: by Sandra, Moderator (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11261 comments For the car theme, maybe you can find a travel book? Someone traveling by car? Or a cover like Bastard Out of Carolina by Dorothy Allison

For the fourth of July I am thinking in fireworks in the cover, or independence theme, or a US flag or colors in the cover.

I hadn't thought of finding a book with the US flag colors. I have several on my TBR list that have US flags! Thanks so much!

message 178: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19148 comments Jannene - I ran into that with Italy - favorite food, place I'd like to visit, and language I'd like to learn. Fortunately, I also listed Australia as a place I'd like to visit, so I'll probably go with that one, which leaves me with only two Italy responses.

I also had two car responses (car vs truck and favorite mode of transportation). I'll try to mix it up a bit with the books I choose. For example, maybe one with a car on the cover and the other with car in the title or about a road trip (car playing a significant role in the book). Or maybe I'll just try to find two that are different genres.

The Disappearing Spoon And Other True Tales of Madness, Love, and the History of the World from the Periodic Table of the Elements by Sam Kean

Have you seen the Wikipedia page for Haitian Literature? There's a list of authors you could look into.

How were you exposed to Haitian Creole? The only time I've ever heard it is on an episode of the X-files (lol), but it sounds fascinating.

message 182: by Tasha (new)

Tasha Jannene, here is an idea for a 4th of July book:

Fourth of July Creek

I think it may have mixed reviews but I loved it.

Hi Casceil - I have two parrot books on my challenge list that might fit for you. The Parrot Who Owns Me: The Story of a Relationship There is also one or two about Alex, an African Gray parrot that is pretty famous.

What kind of parrot is on your mug?. You might check out books for that specific bird.

Hi Jannene,
Peggy pointed out to me that the Zodiac signs have an order number (which never registered to me). You might see what number Virgo is and then, consider reading a series book with that number. Note: Virgo is #6.

Anything with the # 4 in the title should be okay. Or anything with July too. What about what we do on the 4th of July? There may book about a 4th of July party or a parade.

I checked under fourth and found The Fourth Bear and looking under Independence, I found a huge list. Fireworks?

message 186: by Trudy (new)

Trudy (trudyan) | 1779 comments For anyone looking for a book with a hospital setting, I think The Golden Son might meet this requirement. The MC is a medical student completing his residency in a Dallas hospital. Half of the book is set in Dallas; the other half in a small village in rural India. This is an easy read and heart-warming story.

message 187: by Jannene (new)

Jannene | 3124 comments I was going to read One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest for the hospital challenge.

message 188: by Sarah (new)

We could read it together if you wanted.

Sarah | 18550 comments Perhaps. I don't own it though and I was hoping to use books I own first. We'll see though.

Jayme | 4520 comments For #22, A book set in a hospital, Could I read A Thousand Naked Strangers: A Paramedic’s Wild Ride to the Edge and Back? It actually takes place in an ambulance which is what I rode in on the way to the hospital.

I'm not making any rulings. This challenge is all about you, and you have to decide if the book fits the criteria.

message 196: by siriusedward (new)

siriusedward (elenaraphael) | 887 comments And for mysteries and thriller , have you read Robert Galbraith books?
The Cuckoo's Calling The Cuckoo's Calling (Cormoran Strike, #1) by Robert Galbraith
The Silkworm The Silkworm (Cormoran Strike, #2) by Robert Galbraith
Career of Evil Career of Evil (Cormoran Strike, #3) by Robert Galbraith

Spoken Here: Travels Among Threatened Languages has a parrot as last living being speaking a language (not main character, though).
But also, parrots speak, don't they?

Mariab | 3059 comments Camilla wrote: "I chose toothbrush.. Luckily I had The Woman Who Swallowed a Toothbrush: And Other Weird Medical Case Histories on my TBR and I even owned it already."

The pantentation of toothbrush was thought and made from an idea of prison inmate. There, you could find also book material

Virgo stays for Virgin, You could find virgins in books covers, ej: those depicting medieval tapestry with unicorns have always virgins in it

message 200: by Mariab (new)

Mariab | 3059 comments I'm having difficulties myself with my favorite movie: Moulin Rouge.
I have searched books about courtesans, chorus girls, entertainment, show... with no avail.
I'm thinking if I can use only 1 word from his title (red or windmill)
