Good suggestion. I read it too, a while ago. I read it for a group read about the Roman Empire or something and while reading I realized it didn't fit (I expected dual timeline partly set in Roman times, but it wasn't). Still, not a bad book and I think it was a pretty quick read.

For museum I immediately had to think of The Muse. It's not all set in a museum, but it's also dual time-line and the main character in one of the timelines works in a museum and the museum is featured regularly, so it might work. Although maybe there's not enough museum in it. I find it hard to say!

edit: oh nevermind, it's also an art museum so probably wouldn't work at all :)

I think I'll read Crocodile on the Sandbank for the archaeology task.

Sarah | 18550 comments I've not read it but I think I saw part of one the episodes of the TV show. Labyrinth has an archaeology dig in it.

Sarah | 18550 comments Also In the Woods has an archaeology dig going on nearby. And Timeline would also work.

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments If the book is set in October please ignore my comment, but I think subtitles are not allowed, are they?

message 455: by Rusalka, Moderator (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19206 comments ...

Fair point, well made. Never mind me. Deleting comments.

Also, I cannot see your comment Peggy, but I very much may be blind.

message 456: by Rusalka, Moderator (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19206 comments It is hard when we don't link the task. We all get confused.

message 457: by Rusalka, Moderator (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19206 comments Read as "Rusalka is easily and frequently confused"

message 458: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Lol, I'm completely confused now too. Didn't you respond to Margo's suggestion about using Rosemary & Rue for October (as it is the October Days series) for the birthday task? My response was a comment to that, just saying that I think subtitles are not allowed, but to ignore that comment if the book is actually set in October (I haven't read it). So the comment I refer to in my post is not something I posted previously, but the next sentence in the same message. Sorry for the confusion!

message 459: by Rusalka, Moderator (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19206 comments LOL no worries. I was commenting as the characters were named after the months, which doesn't seem to fit.

Nothing to see here, carry on.

Margo | 11630 comments Peggy wrote: "If the book is set in October please ignore my comment, but I think subtitles are not allowed, are they?"

Oh no - the characters name is october. Maybe it doesn't count :( I'll just go back to Something Wicked This Way Comes.

message 461: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Ah my apologies, I didn't realize you were both talking about character names. Never mind me.

message 462: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19148 comments Thanks, Peggy and Sarah. I have added Crocodile on the Sandbank, In the Woods, and Labyrinth to my task along with The Shadowy Horses. I'm glad I have a few options now. I read Timeline a long time ago. I don't remember too much about it, so I could probably do a re-read.

message 463: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments For one of the tasks I need a thriller in which an accident is highly likely. How did you go about finding a book in which an accident will likely happen? Just guess it from the blurb?

Any specific book recommendations? I never read thrillers and I don't like scary books, so a thriller suited for wussies would be good ;-)

message 464: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19148 comments That's tough, Peggy! I read a lot of thrillers, but I'm not sure how to tell when an accident is highly likely.

The first thing that comes to mind, which I didn't think was edge-of-your-seat, except maybe the last 1/3 and even that wasn't scary, just suspenseful, is The Woman in Cabin 10. It's more mystery / soft thriller. She does have a couple of accidents during the book.

Hmmm... I had to refer back to the original tasks. So we're talking birthday month, right? The task is month in title or set during that month. So if your birthday is October, this series won't work. October is in the sub-title, and it's the name of a character.

If we're talking Hallowe'en as favourite holiday - same thing.

An aside, I really want to read that series.

What's-her-name that played Bella was horrible. She has one expression and that is it. I remember the movies had a lot of laugh out loud moments for me that weren't meant to be funny, it was just so cheesy and poorly acted I found it comical. The vamps running through the forests at high speeds is one that I remember laughing at.

I never understood the love triangle in that series. It was so obvious who she was going to choose, it was just pointless. I'm not a fan of love triangles in general though.

LOL! Well, she had to have something to write the stories about. For me, it was not the love interest, but the vampires. I never read the Anne Rice vampire books, so Carlton, Edward and his family fascinated me. I liked how she use the old Indian myths and stories to weave in the Wolves.

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments I think you may like Amelia Peabody, Kristie.
There are 19 books in the series, but only 1-7 and 15, 17-19 were available in audio from my library. The rest are all available in ebook. I am currently on book #8, when it gets off of hold.

message 482: by Cherie (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments Deborah - if you have an iPad mini or tablet, you can use the Kindle app and/or the Nook app to get books without actually buying either device.
I have a Samsung tablet that is actually a Nook device, but I also have the Kindle app loaded on it. You can use Overdrive to download ebooks from your library consortium (if your town or county has one). You use your library card to access the ebooks and audio books, but the selection is somewhat different than what is actually available in your library.

message 483: by Deborah (last edited Mar 01, 2017 12:59AM) (new)

Deborah Pickstone | 529 comments thank Cherie.....but I don't have either nor can I go Wi-Fi. Often the only access is to kindle books, was what I was bemoaning. And my problems with access to a computer at all have hardly diminished....I just got a little smarter!

message 484: by Cherie (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments Kindles require wifi or on-line access to down load books. Same for Nook. I was just trying to point out, when you said that you needed to get a Kindle that you could buy a tablet or iPad and have access to both companies' worth of ebooks through the apps.

It took me a while to remember the name but Afterwards might fit the bill for a thriller based on an accident (task 22) Peggy. Or Accidents Happen or The Accident all of which are gore free. The Accident is one I haven't read yet so not sure of squeamishness rating lol

message 488: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Thanks for the suggestions Margo!

message 489: by KimeyDiann (new)

KimeyDiann | 2174 comments @Deborah, do you have internet access at your home at all, or do you access GR from a library or somewhere similar?

If you have a desktop computer with wired internet access at your home, you can access kindle books directly on your computer. Or you used to be able to, so I'm assuming you still can. I set my mom up to do that once so she could read a book that I knew she would really enjoy that I had on kindle.

I can tell you an "accident" book NOT to read. Don't bother with The Teleportation Accident. I am dumping it. I made it to 30% . I think I have another to replace it with, but if not, I will be back to look at some of these.

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments Margo wrote: "might fit the bill for a thriller based on an accident (task 22)..."

FYI - The specific criteria for Question 22:
If yes, read a book set in a hospital, or with the word “accident” in title.
Janice has stipulated that plurals are okay, so "accidents" could be in the title.

Margo - Your book, Afterwards, would not fit.

I searched pages of book titles and have come up with these, that I am interested in reading, depending on if I can find them via the library or Kindle. For anyone still looking here are a few more suggestions.
The Accident by Chris Pavone
As If by Accident by Julie Johnston
The Accident at 13th and Jefferson: 3 Novels by Brenda J. Carlton - long but looks doable
Its Head Came Off by Accident: A Memoir by Muffy Mead-Ferro - this one rings my bell!
The Unferth Accident by Philip Guimond - I read the preview and it might be something for Beowlf admirers - no reviews or comments yet. Want to be the 1st?

message 493: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Cherie, I think the book could fit if you answered no to that question. In that case you have to read a thriller in which an accident is highly likely.

message 494: by Margo (last edited Mar 01, 2017 05:31PM) (new)

Margo | 11630 comments Peggy wrote: "Cherie, I think the book could fit if you answered no to that question. In that case you have to read a thriller in which an accident is highly likely."

Cherie, I should have have stipulated that I was addressing those who, like Peggy, answered "no" to the accident question. I'm still getting the hang of how this group works - like my not knowing that subtitles don't count :-/

Out of interest, does the wording mean that those who answered "no" must choose a book without "accident "in the title or an I over thinking it now?

message 495: by Kristie, Moderator (last edited Mar 01, 2017 06:00PM) (new)

Kristie | 19148 comments Margo - If you answered yes to question 22, you need to read a book set in a hospital or with the word “accident” in the title. If if you answered no to that question, you have to read a thriller in which an accident is highly likely to occur. It doesn't matter if "accident" is in the title in that case. The title only applies to those that answered yes.

message 496: by Janice, Moderator (last edited Mar 01, 2017 06:27PM) (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59897 comments Just to settle the questions, the task reads, "Have you been in an accident? – If yes, read a book set in a hospital, or with the word “accident” in title. If no, read a book that is a thriller, in which an accident is a high probability. "

So, if yes - hospital setting or "accident" in title (subtitles don't count - sorry Margo).

If no, a thriller in which an accident is a high probability. Think James Bond and his high speed chases.

Like what Kristie said. LOL!

Thank you, Kimey....I have a lovely laptop thingy with a variable input from the exchange.......at present, some days it's pretty good (slow but consistent) and on others I can easily waste 2 hours plus trying to load a single site. Of course, anyone sensible would have given up 1.75 hours ago but I am stubborn.

Yes, thank you, one could do that and I may for a couple of books but reading that way is not comfortable, especially in the position I have the lappie....and yes, of course you can move them around - but last time I did that I couldn't get online for a fortnight. However, that may be the way to go for one or two books - I've read a few Gutenberg books that way.
