2017 Personal Challenge
I hadn't been reading a lot of books so last year I set a goal of 12 but I ended up reading 36! I couldn't believe it. I think the reason I read so many was because I was borrowing them electronically from the library and they expire in three weeks. I was nervous that they would expire before I finished them so I made extra time to read. This year my goal is 24 but, who knows!? Maybe I'll hit 36 again. :)
Wow you all very inspiring !!! I have been trying to get more dedicated in reading and thus set a goal for 4 books this year . Minuscule compared too you all but hopefully now that I joined Goodreads and this cool group I can improve.

12. A simple and low number, but it's been awhile for me when it comes to reading consistently. As long as I finish a book/month, I'll be satisfied. Anything more, and I'll be over the moon.
im going for 100 I should be able to surpass it as I am aiming to mainly read graphic novels and manga as well as fiction.
Last year, I started great and then I fell off track about summertime. I was also finishing school so there was NO time to read for pleasure as I was finishing up my coursework. Needless to say, I did not meet my goal. I'm going to give it another go this year. I will be turning 37 this year, so I figure that's also a reasonable number for books I can attempt to read this year. Here's to 37 books in 2017!
How do I update my widget? I have added books as "Read" under "My Books" and that does not change what my widget says.
Hi Angela! The widget pulls in books that have a "date read" in the current year. So check the book and see if you have entered a date read.To make this easier, if you put a book on your Currently Reading shelf and click the "Update Book" link and then "I'm finished" on the homepage, it will automatically apply today's date as the date read.
James wrote: "Well I'm a looser just 25 for me. "No, we are not losers! I also said 25 books. that was my goal last year and missed it by 4! It just shows we do other things besides read! I love to read but I love other things too! makes a person well-rounded! good luck!!
this is my first time doing a challenge and i've only challenged myself to do 12... ive read 2, on the third
i hope i can complete the 12 books i've set for myself and challenge myself to more before the years end

I'm new to all of this. Not sure what to do or where or when. But my goal is 30 books. You people that read above 50 books in a year are awesome, and owe to pick your brains. Happy reading!
Since I set my goal so high last year as a personal challenge to see if i could reach it (104, which I did reach) This year I want to take it slower and take a little more time to reflect and enjoy each book I read in stead of shot gunning my reading through the year. My goal this year is 35. I want to have the time to maybe start reading a few of the larger novels I have been putting off since last year.Happy Reading Everyone!
Last year I made 50 books to be read and I achieved it by reading 86 books. So, I'm going for 80 books in 2017
Does anyone know how to remove a book from your challenge. I accidently put that I have read 2 editions of the same book.SO want to remove 1?
michelle wrote: "Does anyone know how to remove a book from your challenge. I accidently put that I have read 2 editions of the same book.SO want to remove 1?"Hey Michelle,
If you click on "My books" at the left side (under any bookshelves you might have) there should be something called "find duplicates". It'll show you any duplicates you've added from your library :)
Hope this helps :)
I have already looked at that and unfortunately it doesnt let me remove them from there. Thanks anyway

30 is a great goal for the year :) Best of luck to you!
Take a look here to get a great start and understanding for the group sections and challenges :) And please feel free to ask if you have any doubts or need help with anything.
Happy reading!
Mary wrote: "Much smaller goal for me than most here. My goal is 8 books! It's a start."That's cool! What books are you planning to read? :)
Brian wrote: "I am going to try for 50 books this year. I love reading, but with life happening, sometimes it gets put on hold. Hopefully though I can find the time to get at least 50 in."Yeah, I'm going for 50 this year too. And I can understand how life does get in the way too.
Samantha wrote: "I'm pushing the boat out this year and going for 200 books! I will be re-reading the entire Sweet Valley series this year so hopefully this won't prove too difficult!"Congrats on a high target for this year! :D And I think it's good you're re-reading the Sweet Valley High series - I used to read them as a teenager.
Jessica wrote: "I haven't set a goal for a couple of years, so I am starting with 50 for 2017!"That's my target too :)
I'm going to try 50 books- 1 book per week basically.
My goal is 50 aswell! :) Whats books are you guys planning to read? Do you have a list or do you just select random books along the way?
@Daniela, what I read next is usually determined by the challenges in which I'm participating and the monthly group and buddy reads.
Daniela wrote: "My goal is 50 aswell! :) Whats books are you guys planning to read? Do you have a list or do you just select random books along the way?"Daniela, I have a rough idea of what I may want to read throughout the year based on what I've seen on youtube, recommendations and what has made its way to my TBR-list.
What I actually pick up is based on the amount of time I have at my disposal, the challenges I'm participating in and what I'm in the mood for.
I've noticed, the seasons and weather define what I read. I won't be picking up IT by Stephen King on Valentine's Day, that's for sure :) (Then again I'm coulrophobic so I wouldn't be picking it up under any circumstances :D)
I'm down with 7/70 books for this 2017. Challenge accepted! (I've always wanted to say that). The countdown has begun! Have fun everyone!
Hi Dioanna, I have another book for you. ..."Thank you Leane! I really appreciate it.
I bet I will! I'll try to get my hands on right away.
Thank you again!
Is it too late to start a thread for this? I've been so busy reading I haven't really gotten a chance to explore this group yet.
lacy wrote: "Is it too late to start a thread for this? I've been so busy reading I haven't really gotten a chance to explore this group yet."Not at all Lacy :)
If you're new to the group, I recommend starting with introducing yourself here. Then perhaps creating a personal challenge and/or your own corner
If you want an overview of all the exciting challenges you can participate in, then here you can see the yearly, quarterly and monthly challenges :)
In case I missed anything, there's a starting point for new members that's very helpful :)
Please don't hesitate to ask if you have any questions :)
Thanks Lisa! You covered it all.And welcome Lacy, it's never too late. I think I joined this group in July (the year I joined); right in the middle of the year, and I jumped right in to all of the challenges.
We just want you to fun and enjoy reading!
I am trying to figure out how this group works and the challenges. I tried to do the randomized but never saw this under My Books. I plan on continuing on with other messages to learn the lay of the land.I am hoping to read 100 books but I think that is not too realistic but that is my goal each year.
Nancy from NJ wrote: "I am trying to figure out how this group works and the challenges. I tried to do the randomized but never saw this under My Books. I plan on continuing on with other messages to learn the lay of th..."Hi Nancy,
When you go into "My books" at the bottom of the screen there's a bar that says "sort by" where yo can choose author, title, etc.
If you click random, it'll randomize all your books for you :)

Some books are so long it is like reading 2 ! :)
Happy reading everyone!
